đŐ Ü¸.ËŹ.ܸŐ𦯠. HaikyĹŤ!! Captains crushing on their manager!
Synopsis : Whatâs that??? The captainâs have a crush on you???
Notes : Gender neutral reader, not proofread, I was bored so I wrote this , lemme know if I portrayed them correctly!
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
Enjoy Reading (Ëśáľ áľ áľËś)!!
đٞâDaichi Sawamura
Daichi is absolutely hopeless once he develops a crushâbut the important part is that he doesnât fall in love easily.
Heâs the type of person who slowly grows to love someone over-time, and once those feelings settle in, he keeps them buried for as long as he possibly can.
The problem is that he is absolutely terrible at hiding them.
In his own mind, he thinks that heâs acting completely normal.
To everyone else? Itâs the most obvious thing in the world.
At first, he convinces himself that heâs only looking out for you because youâre Karasunoâs manager.
As captain, itâs his responsibility to make sure everyone gets home safely, that nobody is carrying more than they should, that everyone remembers to eat after practice, and that the team is doing well. Because Daichi is a very caring person and someone who cares for the people around himâit shouldnât be any different with the way he treats you.
Thatâs all this is⌠right? At least, thatâs what he keeps telling himself.
Sugawara seeâs right through him though, heâll ask questions about how all of the suddenly he has been extra too caring about their manager.
âHey Daichi, you keep walking with them everytime after school.â
âOh yeah! What about it?â
âYou live in the opposite direction.â
Daichi will laugh it off and bring up the fact that, he wanted to make sure you were going home safely.
From that moment on, the entire volleyball club watches the slowest, most painfully obvious crush unfold right in front of them.
Instead of simply asking you about yourself, Daichi will try to ask Kiyoko and Yachi instead.
Heâll casually wander over after practice and ask how youâve been doing, whether youâve seemed stressed lately, any upcoming plans, if youâve been eating enough, what your favorite snacks are, or if anything interesting has happened recently.
Kiyoko only smiles and sigh before telling him, âYou know⌠you could just ask them yourself.â
Meanwhile, Yachi is bursting with excitement, insisting that itâs incredibly sweet how much he cares about you, which only makes Daichi deny everything even harder. And Yachi, will tryâwill failâto help Daichi talk to you or ask you out.
I will die on the hill that Daichiâs way of showing affection is about taking care of people.
If he notices youâre carrying something heavy, heâs already reaching for it before youâve even realized he moved.
âOh, youâre carrying all of that? Here, let me.â
âNo, Iâve got it.â
âOh okayâŚâ then a brief pause while Daichi stares at the multiple stacks youâll have to carry. âIâll carry the other stack, then.â
If you mention being hungry even once, heâll mysteriously have âaccidentallyâ bought an extra rice ball or sandwich from the convenience store.
âI bought too much.â Daichi awkwardly chuckles while handing the rice ball towards you âAgain?â You replied while taking the rice ball way from his hand.
ââŚYeah.â
âYou say that every week.â
Heâll only scratch the back of his neck and look away.
Practice runs late? Heâs already waiting by the gym doors with his bag over one shoulder.
âIâll walk you home.â
âYou donât have to.â
âI knowâŚI want too and itâs getting dark.â
If someone outside the team is bothering you, heâll step simply in, and drag you away from them.
if someone on the team was being a nuisance to you. They are receiving a polite (intimidating) conversation.
(I guess, he is protective without being overbearing.)
Outside of volleyball, heâd be the type to text you just to check in.
Nothing excessive, just messages throughout the day asking if youâve eaten, how your classes went, or whether you made it home safely.
Though, those short conversations always turn into hours of talking.
He genuinely wants to know everything about youâyour favorite food, your hobbies, your childhood stories, what makes you laugh, what your dreams are after graduation.
He wants to know because he is interested because itâs you.
But of course, heâll deny every accusation that comes his way.
âYou like the manager.â
âNo..I donât.â But the bright pink creeping up his ears gives him away every single time.
Eventually, the entire Karasuno staff becomes invested in getting the two of you together.
Sugawara shamelessly tries to create opportunities for you to be alone.
Nishinoya and Tanaka cheer whenever you stand next to each other for more than five seconds and place bets on how long itâll take Daichi to confess, everyone in the team just watches and waitsâthereâs a whole separate group chat titled: âoperation get our captain be with our managerâ.
Even Coach Ukai took note on whatâs happening, telling Daichi that heâd probably have better luck talking to you instead of asking Yachi and Kiyoki every other day.
Takeda Sensei, simply smiles and motivates him, âyou got this.â
By the end of it all, everyone knows Daichi is hopelessly in love with the teamâs manager. Everyone⌠except Daichi himself.
đٞâTetsurĹ Kuroo
Most people assumed Kuroo was a flirt, but the truth was a bit complicated than that.
He was naturally charismatic. He talked to everyone, teased everyone, and had a habit of making people laugh within minutes of meeting them.
He loved getting reactions out of people, so when he started joking around with you, nobody thought much of it. It was just Kuroo being Kuroo⌠or so everyone believed.
(The guys is pretty much emotionally intelligent, like that one scene when they were kids.)
(Kenma and Kuroo interactions were so endearingly sweet.)
The difference became obvious surprisingly fast when he started talking to you.
With everyone else, his teasing was effortless. He always had a comeback ready, a smug grin on his face.
Around you, though?
Heâd stumble over his own pick up lines, laugh a little harder than necessary whenever you said something funny, or completely lose his train of thought because you smiled at him youâll listen to him talk about his interests or when you complimented him.
Sometimes heâd also catch himself staring at you for too long before awkwardly clearing his throat and pretending heâd been looking at something behind you.
He always, tried way too hard to impress youâhe doesnât realize it thoâŚ
One afternoon he attempted to make a chemistry joke while you were organizing practice schedules.
âYou knowâŚâ he smirked, âI think weâve got pretty good chemistry.â
You blinked. ââŚChemistry?â
âYeah.â He replied then you tilted your head. â like The subject?â
Kuroo just stared âYou know just forget that I said anything.â
And immediately left muttering and mumbling to himself while he buried his face in his hands while Kenma quietly snorted from the corner of the gym.
A full minute later your eyes widened. ââŚOhâŚhe..meant that chemistry.â
Whenever Nekoma had team dinners, Kuroo somehow always ended up sitting next to you. It didnât matter where you chose to sitâheâd find an excuse. If someone else had already taken the seat beside you, heâd casually convince them to switch.
Nobody knew how he kept pulling it off, but somehow the captain always ended up within armâs reach of their manager.
During practice, heâd invent the flimsiest reasons imaginable to come over and talk to you and ask for any updates about your life.
âNeed help carrying those volleyballs?â
âIâve got them.â
âAre you sure?â
âYes.â
âPositive?â
âYes, Kuroo.â
âOkay, okay.â
Heâd walk away⌠Only to wander back five minutes later because he âforgot to ask Coach something.â
Coach hadnât even called him over and when he did he just spent his time in idle talking to you. While the coach just sighs knowing that the boy got a crush on you.
If you were helping the other managers refill water bottles or organize equipment, heâd finish his own drills suspiciously quickly just to strike up another conversation or have an excuse to hold hands with you.
Another big giveaway was that he actually listened.
Kuroo remembered everything.
If you casually said you liked a certain dessert once, heâd somehow âaccidentallyâ buy one for himself the next time the team stopped somewhereâthen offer you half because he âcouldnât finish it.â
He was also constantly looking for reasons to text you. It would start with something completely normal.
âCoach said practice starts thirty minutes earlier tomorrow.â
ThenâŚ
âDid you finish that assignment?â
âHave you eaten yet?â
âKenma says this movie is good. Have you seen it?â
âDo you know about this new video game? Wanna come over?â
âSleep well, goodnight!â
Before either of you realized it, youâd spent two hours talking about absolutely nothing.
His very personal close friend Kenma noticed almost immediately. Because he had to listen to Kuroo talk and gush about you while he played his game on the console.
Every practice morning, Kuroo would stop in front of the locker room mirror, fixing his hair for the third time before flashing himself a smile.
â Is it too much?â Heâd try a wink.
ââŚDefinitely too much.â Kenma will reply not looking up from his position.
âKenma.â
âHm.â
âDo I look okay?â
Kenma didnât even glance up from his handheld console.âTheyâre coming today, arenât they?â It got even worse after heâd invited you over to his house to study. Suddenly he was panicking over things heâd never cared about before.
Were there enough snacks?
Should he clean his room again?
Did his bookshelf make him look like a nerd?
Should he wear his Nekoma hoodie or was that trying too hard?
Kenma walked into his room, took one look at Kuroo rearranging the same stack of manga for the fourth time, and sighed.
âYouâve cleaned your room more today than you have all year.â
âIâm just⌠making it look presentable.â
âTheyâre just coming over to study.â
Kenma simply walked away. âThey like you too much to care.â
Kuroo froze. âWaitâwhat did you just say?â
ââŚNothing.â Kenma replied while quickly turning away.
âKenma.â
đٞâTĹru Oikawa
The agenda that Oikawa has had dozens of girlfriends just because heâs popular is completely false.
The guy had one girlfriend, got dumped, and somehow that became enough for everyone to assume he was a legendary heartbreaker. Yeah noâŚ
Sure, girls confessed to him all the time, but actually pursuing someone he genuinely liked?
That was a completely different story. Oikawa could charm an entire gymnasium filled with girlsâmaybe? Probably without breaking a sweat, but in reality with a person he likedâheâd struggle.
The first time he saw you, he genuinely forgot how to speak. His mouth literally fell open, earning a chorus of laughter from the rest of Aoba Johsai before he could even recover.
From that day on, he became embarrassingly determined to make a good impression. And poor Iwaizumi ended up being forced to listen to Oikawa rehearse greetings before practice.
âShould I say âGood morningâ? No⌠too plain...maybe, âHey! Fancy seeing you here!â Wait, no, thatâs stupid. What if I compliment them? Too much? What if I wink?â
Iwaizumi would just deadass stare at him with the most exhausted expression imaginable. âYouâre talking to the manager, not confessing.â
After twenty minutes of practicing, Oikawa would finally convince himself he was ready.
He walked into the gym full of confidence and motivation, looking like the coolest person alive, hair perfectly styled, smile perfectly practiced, absolutely radiant.
Then when youâd look up and casually say, âOh, Oikawa, Coach wanted you,â suddenly every single prepared sentence vanished from his brain. ââŚH-Huh? Me? Right. Yeah. Coach. Of course.â
Heâd stumble over his own words so badly that youâd give him a confused look before walking away, leaving him frozen in place.
The second you disappeared around the corner, heâd dramatically collapse against the nearest wall while Iwaizumi watched without a shred of sympathy.
âThat was pathetic.â
âI KNOW IWA-CHAN!â
It continued on he became painfully obvious to everyone except you. Heâd start fixing his hair whenever he caught his reflection in a window. Heâd suddenly care about whether his practice jacket looked wrinkled. Heâd ask Kunimi or iwazumi, âDo I look okay?â so often that theyâd stop answering and just give him a thumbs-up without looking.
If you complimented literally anythingâhis serve, his haircut, even his water bottleâheâd spend the next week thinking about it. And heâll replay every conversation in his head that night, wondering if he sounded cool or if he embarrassed himself again.
Heâd constantly invent excuses to be around you, too. Need help carrying volleyballs? Heâs already there. Coach asked someone to move equipment?
Oikawa volunteered before anyone else could. If you were talking to another manager or one of the first years, heâd casually wander over with a grin and somehow try to insert himself into the conversation.
Heâd never admit it was because he wanted to spend more time with you, but everyone else could connect the dots.
Naturally, the entire team notice and try to tease their captain, Hanamaki and Matsukawa would make it their lifeâs mission to sabotage him at every opportunity. Actually the whole team, just so Oikawa will owe them up to a free treat to a soba meal.
Theyâd loudly call your name whenever Oikawa was staring so heâd whip his head away. If he was about to walk over and talk to you, theyâd suddenly throw an arm around his shoulders and start asking him nonsense just to watch him suffer.
Iwaizumi was somehow both his biggest supporter and biggest bully. Heâd tell Oikawa to just confess already⌠then immediately smack him over the head whenever he started overthinking another three-word conversation.
đٞâWakatoshi Ushijima
Ushijima was ratherâŚuhmâŚwellâŚhe didnât recognize his feelings as a crush.
To him, it was simply the fact that: your presence was pleasant and he felt pleased to be around you and listen to you talk and compliment him, you were someone he trusted completely and whose company he preferred over being alone, someone that he naturally looked for after practice without realizing he was doing it.
In his mind, you were simply a close friendâsomeone he liked very, very much. There was no reason to question it.
It wasnât until TendĹ bluntly announced, âUshijima, you have a crush on the manager,â that made him actually stop and think.
He stood there silently for several long seconds before asking, completely serious, ââŚIs that what this feeling is?â Making TendĹ nearly fell over laughing that his friend hadnât realized that his actions werenât normal.
Ushijima didnât understand what was so funny. If there was a name for what he was feeling, then yeah, he had a crush.
During his early morning runs, heâd quietly reflect on it. Heâd replay conversations the two of you had shared, the way you smiled when you greeted him every morning, how you always remembered to ask if heâd eaten after long practices.
He found himself remembering details that most people wouldnât know or bother to remember if they arenât close with one another.
Eventually, another realization settled in. Whenever the two of you walked somewhere together, he always wanted to reach over and hold your hand.
Not because there was any particular reasonâhe simply thought it feltâŚrightâŚand whenever he sees someone making you uncomfortable by talking to you or asking your number, he feels somewhatâjealous âthen spikes a ball that hits them to leave you alone.
Ushijima expressed his affection through his actions.
If you were carrying equipment, heâd wordlessly take the heavier box.
If practice ran late, heâd wait without being asked so you wouldnât have to walk home alone.
If someone was bothering you, they somehow found themselves on the receiving end of Ushijimaâs spike or intimidating stare until they decided they had somewhere else to be.
Whenever you thanked him, heâd simply nod and reply, âYouâre important to the team.â
To everyone else, it sounded like something a captain would naturally say.
The truth was, heâd do those things even if you werenât the manager anymore.
Ironically, the two of you were probably the only people who didnât realize what was happening.
You simply thought Ushijima was an incredibly dependable friend. Quiet? Yes. Awkward? Occasionally.
But heâd always been kind to you, so none of it seemed unusual.
Meanwhile, Ushijima believed he was treating youâwellâalmost the same but it was still differentâŚcompletely unaware that the team had started keeping score of how many times he looked for you first after practice.
Whenever you passed by and smiled or waved at him, heâd calmly lift a hand and wave back before returning to whatever he was doing, thinking absolutely nothing of it.
Tendou meanwhile, would simply sigh in the background.
When you walked into the gym every afternoon, Ushijima would instinctively glance toward the entrance to make sure youâd arrived safely.
If you looked tired, heâd ask if you were feeling alright.
If you forgot to eat lunch, heâd quietly buy you something from the vending machine.
None of those things felt extraordinary to himâthey were simply the logical things to do for someone important.
The problem was⌠he didnât do those things for everyone.
If you were running late, Ushijima would casually ask, âHave they arrived yet?â
If you missed practice because you were sick, heâd quietly ask Coach WashijĹ if you were recovering well.
If you mentioned an upcoming exam, heâd remember the exact date weeks later and ask how it went.
To him, those were simply the things friends did.
If you ever asked him why he always seemed to be there whenever you needed help, heâd answer with complete sincerity
âBecause youâre important to me.â
Then heâd continue walking as though heâd said something ordinary, leaving everyone elseâincluding youâto process what heâd just admitted.
đٞâKĹtarĹ Bokuto
Bokuto was completely incapable of hiding his feelings. The moment he realized he liked you, the entire volleyball club somehow knew within a week.
Honestly, it probably took less than that. Bokuto wasnât the type to quietly yearn you from afarâhe made it everyoneâs business.
The gym echoed with your name at least five times every practice because heâd shout, âHEY, ââŚ.â !! LOOK AT THIS!â from the opposite side of the court before attempting his best spike.
The second he landed it, heâd immediately turn to see if you were watching.
He lived for your praise. One simple âThat was amazing, Bokuto!â and suddenly he was playing like heâd been possessed, hitting every spike with even more confidence than before, even if he missed heâll still be motivated because he sees you on the side lines watching him.
If you clapped for him, heâd spend the next thirty minutes grinning so hard his cheeks hurt.
If you complimented a single play, heâd perform even better for the rest of practice, convinced he had to live up to your expectations and not to let you down.
The opposite was also true.
If you left before practice ended because you had errands to run, Bokuto would dramatically flop onto the gym floor as though all life had left his body.
âThey leftâŚâ
âBokuto, they just went to the store.â
ââŚWithout saying goodbyeâŚâ
âYou watched them wave at you.â
ââŚItâs not the same.â
If you happened to miss practice altogether, heâd spend the entire day asking where you were. The moment practice ended, your phone would explode with notifications.
Bokuto: hey
Bokuto: hey hey
Bokuto: HEYYYYYY???
Bokuto: where were youuu??
Bokuto: are you alive??
Bokuto: you okay
Bokuto: HELLOOOOO???
If you still didnât answer, heâd call you, and the second you picked up, youâd hear the most exaggerated fake sobbing imaginable.
â ââŚ.â You werenât here todayâŚâ
âBokutoââ
âYou abandoned meâŚâ
âI had to go to the dentist.â
Then his mood shifts âOh okayâyey!! How was it??â
You genuinely made his entire day brighter just by existing. If you walked into the gym and smiled at him before practice, heâd somehow have enough energy to power the entire team.
If you laughed at one of his jokesâeven the terrible onesâheâd be riding that high for hours. And flexing that to everyone thatâHEâyesâHEâmade you smile!
Akaashi noticed this and used it to his advantage and also help Bokuto get to youâdoesnât seem like you really mind, anywaysâŚ
Whenever Bokuto started spiraling into one of his moods, Akaashi would calmly glance around the gym before saying, âManager, could you hand Bokuto the extra volleyballs?â
Almost instantly, Bokuto perked back up.
âOh! Hi! ââŚâ!!â
âHi, Bokuto!!â
âDid you see my last spike?â
âI did.â
ââŚReally?â
âIt was impressive.â
ââŚAKAASHI, DID YOU HEAR THAT?!â
Akaashi had, in fact, he planned the entire interaction.
During official matches, the team practically relied on you as part of their strategy. Whenever Bokutoâs confidence started wavering after a blocked spike, everyone instinctively looked toward you. One thumbs-up, a clap, or a simple, âYouâve got this, Bokuto!â was usually all it took.
His shoulders straightened and his grin returned.
âRIGHT! IâVE GOT THIS!â
Kenji Futakuchi
Futakuchi definitely teased the hell out of you. It got to the point where half your conversations ended with you threatening to throw a volleyball at him.
The only way he knew how to get closer to someone was by being an absolute menace.
Heâd make sarcastic comments whenever you walked by, roast you for the smallest mistakes, steal your clipboard for no reason other than to watch you chase after him, and smirk every time you rolled your eyes.
The thing was, he didnât tease you because he wanted to annoy you.
He teased you because it gave him an excuse to talk to you.
(RealâŚmature move over hereâŚ)
If you ignored him, heâd somehow find another reason to bother you five minutes later.
If you snapped back with an insult of your own, his grin will reach from both ends of his ears, smiling widely.
In his mind, if you were arguing with him, at least you were paying attention to him.
The rest of Date Tech thought it was painfully obvious, but you simply assumed Futakuchi was like that with everyone.
Though, he was surprisingly observant. He noticed when you looked stressed before anyone else did.
If you had dark circles under your eyes after exam week, heâd notice. And reassure you to take breaks and you can pass the test.
If you skipped lunch because you were too busy helping Coach, heâd notice that too. And quietly place the sweet bread hr bought from the cafeteria.
Too much things to dowhen you are about to turn around to grab a box of volleyballs only to find theyâd already disappeared because Futakuchi had carried them away.
If you asked why, heâd shrug and say, âI didnât trust you not to drop them.â there was always an excuse. Heâd never admit.
He also had a habit of unconsciously looking for you. The moment he walked into the gym, his eyes would flick toward the managerâs desk just to make sure youâd made it to practice.
If you were absent that day, heâd casually ask, âManagerâs not here today?â trying to sound like he was only curious because it affected practice.
Nobody believed him. Not Moniwa, not Kamasaki, not even Aone.
They all knew exactly why heâd asked.
Whenever the team went out to eat after a match, Futakuchi will make sure you are eating first and getting the food you wanted.
If you needed to carry drinks back to the table, heâd take half of them before you even had the chance, saying it was simply the practical thing to do.
If someone else started bothering you, heâd immediately jump into the conversationânot because he was jealous, heâd insist, but because âtheyâre being annoying.â
The irony of that statement was completely lost on him.
The biggest weakness in this entire act was kindness.
He could handle you yelling at him. He could handle you roasting him back. He could even handle you threatening to hit him with a volleyball. He could handle you hitting him and calling him âannoying.â
But if you smiled warmly and said, âThanks, Futakuchi. I appreciate you helping me,â his brain would completely short-circuit.
His ears would turn pink, heâd suddenly become shying away , and heâd mutter something like, âyeah, whatever,â before quickly walking away.
The smug grin heâd worn all day would disappear in an instant.
His teammates lived to see those moments. Theyâd spend entire practices trying to orchestrate situations where youâd thank him just to watch him go soft and quite.
đٞâShinsuke Kita
Shinsuke Kita didnât realize the exact moment he fell for you. There wasnât some dramatic confession to himself or a day he could point back to.
One morning, he simply noticed that he had started looking toward the gym entrance without thinking, wondering if youâd arrived yet.
If you were already there setting up equipment, heâd feel oddly relieved and go up to you asking if you wanted him to help you.
If you were running late, heâd quietly glance at the clock once or twice before returning to practice.
It wasnât something he questioned at first.
To him, it was simply another part of his daily routine, like arriving early, sweeping the gym, or checking the volleyballs before practice.
He admired the little things about you more than anything else.
The way you stayed behind to organize supplies even after everyone else had left.
How you always remembered which players forgot their water bottles.
The âgood morningâ youâd give him every day, even if the two of you exchanged only a handful of words afterward.
He appreciated the consistency of the interactions that you had.
The Miya twins noticed long before he did, theyâll ask him questions and bring out how he always stares at you.
âHeâs a gonerâ Osamu sighed.
âOur captainâs in love.â Atsuma replied back
Kita wasnât the type to become flustered or act differently around someone he liked. If anything, he became even more dependable.
Heâd quietly set aside your favorite drink whenever the team stopped at the convenience store.
If he noticed you looked tired, heâd ask, âDid you sleep well?â
If it started unexpectedly rain, there would already be an umbrella waiting because heâd checked the forecast that morning and packed an extra one without mentioning it.
The affection he had was almost impossible to recognize unless you paid close attention.
If everyone was helping clean up, heâd naturally drift toward whatever task you were doing so the work would finish faster.
âYou donât have to carry that.â
âIt isnât heavy.â
âIt is.â
And heâll reach out and carry it.
âThank you, Kita.â
âYouâre welcome.â
That was the entire conversation.
To everyone else, though, it said plenty.
The second-years began making bets on how long it would take before Kita realized he wasnât treating you the same as everyone else. Aran merely chuckled whenever the twins complained.
âLeave him alone.â
âBut Aran-san!â
âHe literally asked if he was comfortable when we all went out to eat and gave them a piece of his foodâ Atsumu pointed out.
âThat âs just being considerate.â
Atsumu just stared at Aran in absolute disbelief.
And Kita himself remained blissfully unaware.
To him, caring for someone was simply the right thing to do. If someone mattered to you, you remembered the little things. You paid attention. You made their day a little easier if you could.
Only much later, after hearing Atsumu loudly complain for what felt like the hundredth time, did Kita quietly ask,
ââŚIs this really considered having a crush?â
The gym fell completely silent. Even Suna looked up from his phone, while Atsumu slowly pointed at him shouting out loud,
âYOU ARE SERIOUSLY ASKING ABOUT THAT NOW?â
Osamu pinched the bridge of his nose.
âKita-sanâŚâ
ââŚYouâve had one for months.â
Kita was quiet for a long moment.
âI see.â He nodded once, accepting the information as calmly as if someone had told him practice started thirty minutes earlier. âThat explains a few things.â
And the very next morning, he greeted you exactly as he always did.
âGood morning.â
âMorning, Kita.â
A small smile crossed his face.
ââŚIâm glad youâre here.â
Across the gym, Atsumu buried his face in his hands.
âTheyâre both hopeless.â
đٞâYĹŤji Terushima
Terushima was absolutely convinced he had game. According to him, there wasnât a person alive who could resist his ânatural charm.â
The boys on Johzenji had heard that speech so many times they could recite it word for word.
So when the manager caught his eye, everyone knew that heâll either fail or have you wrapped around his finger within a week.
Instead, you humbled him almost immediately.
He was leaning against the gym wall with what he thought was the coolest smile imaginable.
âHey, manager. You know, if I wasnât on the volleyball team, Iâd probably be a model.â
You ignore him and his comment and said
ââŚCoach said if you keep standing there, youâre running suicides and youâll be a dead weight..so I suggest you start getting yourself together and practice.â
ââŚRight.â
The team howled with laughter as he slowly walked back onto the court. It became a weekly occurrence that heâll try to find a way to make you fall for him.
Terushima would confidently stroll over with a brand-new pickup line heâd thought of on the train ride to school, only for you to accidentallyâintentionallyâshut it down without even trying.
âYou know, you smiled at me today.â
âI smile at everyone.â
âI smiled at a guy today too.â
âOuch that hurtsâŚâ he would dramatically say.
The funniest part was that he never stayed embarrassed for long. Give him thirty seconds, and heâd bounce right back with another grin and another terrible attempt.
He took absolutely nothing seriously. If you rolled your eyes, heâd dramatically clutch his chest and claim youâd âwoundedâ him before immediately asking if you wanted something from the vending machine.
If you called him annoying, heâd proudly respond, âThat means you think about me!â
If you threatened to throw a volleyball at him, heâd hand you one with a smile.
The problem was that, despite all the jokes, he also paid attention to you and your feelings. Heâll also stop bothering you when you looked exhausted and will go up to you and tell you to sit this one out.
He noticed when you looked exhausted after carrying equipment all afternoon and would suddenly snatch the boxes out of your hands.
He also had an annoying habit of appearing exactly when your mood dipped. If practice had been stressful or you looked overwhelmed, Terushima would somehow materialize beside you.
âWanna hear something funny?â
âSure.â
Five minutes later, he was now reenacting one of his teammates tripping over a volleyball or giving an exaggerated impression of the referee from your last match until you laughed despite yourself.
The second he heard that laugh, heâd grinâThere it is.
every time you smiled at one of his ridiculous jokes or laughed at another one of his failed attempts to flirt, heâd forget whatever cheesy line heâd planned next. He liked seeing you smile.
His teammates commented about how he somehow got significantly dumber around you.
Even when he embarrasses himself, heâd recover almost instantly and walk confidently towards you.
If a volleyball smacked him in the face while he was trying to flirt, heâd come back still with a smile.
Terushima wasnât actually trying to impress you at all anymore. He was trying to make you laugh, because he wanted you to be happy.

These Haikyuu men have been secretly watching the cute sports reporter from the sidelines for a while now, always catching glimpses of her interviewing players after matches. So when he finally gets to be the one sheâs interviewing? Oh, he's blushing hard.
Heâs trying his absolute best to answer all her questions seriouslyâmaintaining eye contact, throwing in a few jokes to impress herâwhen suddenly, bam! His rascal of a teammate dumps an entire gallon of cold water on him as part of their post-game tradition⌠but it splashes all over her too.
He immediately turns to his teammate like, âAre you serious right now?â before scolding them on the spot. âSheâs working! What is wrong with you?â he snaps, before turning to her, flustered and apologizing profusely. âIâm so sorry about that. Get her a towel. Now.â
When they bring it over, these Haikyuu men takes it himself and gently starts wiping the water from her face, mumbling something like, âYou okay?â while giving her a small, nervous smile. He doesnât even realize theyâre still being filmed.
Trying to save face, he grins and says, âHow about thisâlet me make it up to you. You can write an entire article about me⌠over coffee?â
Later that night, heâs sprawled out on his bed, still in his team hoodie, phone in one hand and a lazy grin on his face as he watches the viral clip of himself smiling like an idiot while gently dabbing her face with a towel for the tenth time. The comment section is wildâsome are teasing, some are shipping, and some are dead serious about wanting to see them together.
Then his phone pings.
You: how about tomorrow lunch time? đ
Hinata, Atsumu, Bokuto, Sugawara, Kageyama, Oikawa, Tsukishima (i have favoritism), Iwaizumi, Kuroo, Daichi, Tendou, Kenma, Ushijima (i have favoritism part 2), any other hq men you love
fly high, haikyu-!
youâve been awoken by an angel. or at least, thatâs what it feels like when you wake up in a soft bed that is absolutely not your own, the warmth of this stranger â no, angel, filling your limbs with life you didnât have before.
you gently open your eyes, trying consciously to widen them against the sleep that tugs at your eyelids. above you is a man kissed in sunlight, his broad arms held above you on the mattress. his eyes. some mix of green or brown or hazel or heaven looked at you like youâd bestowed him the greatest gift of the universe.
so naturally, having a hot man on top of you made you say the stupidest thing said in the history of mankind.
âholy shit. you are the sexiest man alive.â
the man stilled, eyebrows knitting in confusion before the laughter lit up his entire face.
âyouâre supposed to be sober,â he sighed. âcome on now. youâre telling me a full night of sleep didnât fix that?â
you blinked sleepily, your edges snapping into focus before you realized that in your sleepy gaze, youâd just called iwaizumi hajime, your best friend of all timeâŚ.the sexiest man alive.
you wished the ground would swallow you whole. that at least, would be a better fate than what currently greeted you.
you shoved your face in your hands, hearing hajimeâs chuckles carrying out over the entire room.
âoh wow! that definitely did it. sexiest man alive, huh.â
âthat wasnât meâŚâ you mumbled into your hands, âthat was my evil twin. they try to sabotage me no matter what i do.â
you feel the gentle sensation of your hands being peeled away from your face, only for hajime to lean down and kiss your forehead.
every thought in your head ceased to exist.
âyouâre silly,â he smiled against your skin, rising up from the mattress. âgo brush your teeth. iâll make breakfast.â
you were left alone in a sunlit room, wrapped in his sheets and wondering if your stupid comment had landed you a breakfast date with your secret crush.

It's not a nice bar by any standards, but the lady hogging the bartender's attention doesn't seem to be understanding that. She's leaned against the counter, talking about domestic reds in a voice that demands bystander's attention, but isn't garnering any of it. California has gems, but local wines are underrated, she says. You can feel the ball of your foot digging into the bone, your heels extremely un-padded in the sole.
"I can't believe how long this is taking," the man next to you remarks. It takes you a second to realize he's talking to you. His hands are jammed into the front pockets of his jeans and he rocks back and forth on his feet impatiently, but with a smile that's pleasantly good-natured.
"Well-" you find yourself flustered. He's cute, much too cute to be chatting you up. The dark of his eye glitters under the lowlight. His hair is black and coiffed, pushed back in the stupidly effortless way that nearly makes you want to roll your eyes. "The bartender is, like, 75."
"No, she is-- wow, she really is." He cranes on to his toes to see her and scoffs a laugh. "We may never get a drink. People have literally started playing cards in line."
Sure enough, there's a spread of multicolored cards on the standing table next to you, with a long-haired man monologuing over it. The other man at the table is nodding earnestly, enthralled.
"That's tarot. It's divination, fortune-telling stuff," you explain. "Every card means something."
"Wild," he says. "I'm John, by the way."
You introduce yourself and feel the conversation start to fizzle out at the crowd gets closer to the bar top.
"Hey." You barely move your hand away from your side to point. The rest of the gold edged deck sits on the seat right by his hip, in between other unsecured valuables. "Do you think they'd notice if you took a card?"
The stranger tilts his head back to laugh. It extends through his whole body, curving his spine and bending his knees. "Not if you're stealthy enough."
"No, I mean, would they sense the energy is off or-?" You gesture as you try to explain yourself. "Is there a sixth sense when it comes to tarot card decks? Or do they know the exact weight?"
"One way to find out."
John slides a bit to the left and palms a card in one fluid movement. Before you can panic, he moves back and his shoulder finds yours, forcing you to shuffle sideways and away from the scene of the crime. A laugh escapes you, despite the growing alarm you feel.
"I didn't actually want to do it!" you gasp. "Are you cursed now? Is that how tarot works?"
"You mean 'are WE cursed now?'" John flips two gold trimmed cards between his fingers. "Because I took two."
"Double curse," you whisper and that drives him to belly laugh, nearly keeling over and into another patron. It takes a long while to gather himself; tears are flitting the corners of his eyes when he manages to speak again.
"Okay, ready?" He flips the first card. "Two cups."
He gasps suddenly, eyes going wide. "Do you know what that means? We're gonna get those drinks!"
That makes you laugh. The man behind you pushes to the front, but you don't mind waiting a bit longer this time.
"Oh, and a fancy guy," John says as he flips the other stolen item to its face.
"It says the fool." You jam your finger to the word. "Whoa, do you know what that means? You're a fool for stealing cards."
"Do you know what they mean together?" His eyes go wide and wild again. "A fool is going to buy you a drink."

Headcanons of Tsukishima as your boyfriend !!
⢠He doesnât mean to, but he strains your neck because you constantly have to look up to see his face.
⢠He claims he doesnât like pet names, especially in public. But when youâre alone together, he throws in a few âbabyâs and âsweetsâs when heâs most comfortable.
⢠When you visit the volleyball gym and all of his teammates see you, they start yelling at Tsukishima for âhidingâ such a precious thing like you.
âHe scrambles away with you, cheeks pink and head low. âIâm sorry about them, they can be such pains.â
⢠Only lets you touch his stuff. His headphones, his notebooks, his ridiculous collector comics. Everything.
⢠He hate seeing you cry. Even when he goes stiff and stays silent while you start to tear up with your lip wobbling and sniffing nose. He doesnât react immediately, but when he does, he pulls you into the warmest hug ever.
⢠Heâs dry in both text and in real life. But you donât mind since youâre always talking his ear off anyway.
⢠When you guys go on dates, heâs usually the one that pays for both of you but when you sneakily pay for your own food, he gets annoyed and buys you another thing to make up for it despite your insistence.
⢠He LOVES it when you scratch his head. He doesnât ask for it because he thinks if he asks for it first, heâs going soft. So he lets you do it first. And fortunately for him, you always initiate it.
⢠Not much of a big eater but will try and finish your food if ever you order too much for yourself.
⢠His favorite spots to kiss you are on the crown of your head or the back of your hand.
⢠When you get into arguments, his first instinct is to distance himself away. But not because he doesnât wanna see you, heâs just thinking of what he might have done wrong and how he can fix it.
⢠Doesnât look at other girls. He thinks of cheating as âinsaneâ and âpathetic.â Which is good! C:
⢠(If youâre sort of a himbo) He would tutor you if youâre falling behind and teach it to you how you would understand it. But his patience thins ever so slightly when you tell him âI forgot what that is.â
⢠He loves you so sooo much even if he doesnât act like it or outwardly show affection. But he really does.
an: Hi again !! I thought that the previous work was too short so I made some hcs to make up for it hehe. Pls forgive me đĽ˛đ¤
no one could say your boyfriend â kei tsukishima â was the sweetest person they knew. infact, if you asked anyone, they'd say the exact opposite. arrogant, condescending, and unaffectionate. those were the words usually used to describe him. no way he'd be loving in a relationship.
though, what people didn't know was that he turned into a different person when you two were alone. around others, he often teased you for wanting to cling to his side. pretended he didn't want you near, and that you were supposedly the 'worlds clingiest lover.' that front worked on everyone but you.
whenever he came over, he whined over almost any loss of touch. whether it be something as simple as taking your leg off of his, or your lips leaving his 'too soon'. you'd stop raking your hands through his hair for a nanosecond, and his head was already spun to meet yours. with the biggest pout present ever, he asks, "what are you doing?"
you : âkei, it wasn't even a second.â kei : ânot what i asked, put it back⌠pleaseâ
people were right. kei was still himself, obviously, arrogant. but they were wrong about him being unaffectionate. the snarky remarks were a coverup, and you didn't mind them, because at the end of the day it's the same guy that makes snarky remarks pleading for your touch.
the coverup definitely falters at times. catch him at the right time, and he's speaking so affectionately that you worry your boyfriend was replaced. still, even without the cover up faltering, he'd do anything you ask of him. he'll pretend he won't do it, but he'll do it the next second. he'll do whatever you ask â except leave you alone.
he follows you around like a puppy. going to pee? what a coincidence, he needed to go to the bathroom too. he can't wait either â it has to be right now, when you're already going.
you : âyou don't even need to pee!â kei : âhow are you gonna tell me what i need to do?â
tsukishima follows behind you, and after swearing he had to go, he leans on the counter scrolling on his phone. you peeing isn't stopping him from being with you. right once you leave the bathroom, he's out too, but he just swore he needed to go.
he'll never admit what he does, and he doesn't have to, because it's clear as day. no amount of sarcasm or false arrogance will cover up the fact that tsukishima's smitten.
bye i hate this but i wanted it out of my drafts this instant. i've had this in my drafts for like over a month now. kinda funny how i just posted twice about clingy!shinsou and now i'm posting this. maybe it was meant to be idk
âkei, do you ever think about how strange it is that we've never fought?â you ask, limbs tangled with his as you cuddle on his bed.
itâs 10:03 PM and youâre doing your best to fight against the chilling, icy atmosphere of tsukishimaâs room. for some reason, he likes to sleep like a vampire.
âdo you want to?â he offers with an arm wrapped around your shoulders. tsukki doesnât even open his eyes when he responds, too sleepy to entertain another one of your late night overthinking sessions.
âno,â you say calmly, âbut weâve been together for 7 months. we must either be like, the greatest couple of all time or the exact opposite.â
you feel his chest rise and deflate against your head as he lets an overly dramatic sigh.
you knew tsukishima kei wasnât one for pda. hell, it was one of the things you loved about him. he knew how to make you feel loved without having to scream it to the world.
like that one time on one of your first dates, when you had accidentally fallen asleep on the soft grass of the park while waiting for his weekend practice to end. you woke up with a hand massaging your scalp.
âhow long have you been waiting there?â you giggle, rising from your slumber as you rub your eyes awake. he pulls away, casually avoiding your gaze. âwhy didnât you wake me?â
kei only shrugs, âyou looked peaceful.â
or that other time you got sick for a week and couldnât make it to school, so he immediately visited you as soon as you got better and brought his backpack with him.
âi got two copies of all the homeworks due next week, so you donât have to ask the teachers for them.â he unpacks his notes and fishes out two pens from his bag before turning to you. âcome, iâll teach you everything you missed.â
your teachers praised you for how responsible you were, and told you how much they appreciated that you took the initiative to study.
yeah, you totally did that.
or like right now, and all the other nights youâve spent at his place. because unbeknownst to you, tsukishima kei sets up his bedroom every single time you visit. he tidies up, cleaning even spots that you would never think to look at. but most importantly, and tsukishima knows this routine by heart, he turns the a/c to the highest setting so youâd be forced to cuddle against him underneath his sheets.
âthe former,â is all replies with, and you scoff, rolling your eyes.
âbut seriously though. how lucky are we to never have fought even after seven months.â
tsukki sighs again, before reluctantly revealing, âwe donât fight because i make it a point to always agree with you.â
youâre taken aback by his words, sitting up slightly as you look him in the eyes, though his are still closed as he tries to focus on sleeping.
â...huh?â
âidiot,â he teases. maybe he thinks calling you names will cover up for how unbelievably sweet heâs being right now, âwhy would i want to argue with you?â he shifts, trying to subtly move his face away so you donât see him fully.
âbut i canât always have my way, you know. a relationship should be 50/50, right?â
ânot ours.â he presses your head back against his chest, and you hear his heartbeat fasten a little. âyouâre the boss.â
BONUS: âand youâve never paid in your life anyway. you donât believe in that 50/50 bullshit.â âhey!â âi donât even know what your wallet looks like.â
@kokokoula this oneâs for u <3

it's a curse. you know it's a curse, something said amongst knitters, don't knit your boyfriend a sweater. as sure as the âdon't tattoo your partners nameâ curse, because they will turn into an ex. you know this phenomenon, something that you had seen on the internet and that has happened in craft circles. they're making their partner something and before they can even finish they break up. whether it's a strange twist of fate, sometimes the person making the craft realizes they're not happy, or the other person just breaks up with them for no reason. so that's why you were knitting your boyfriend a beanie, surely the curse won't work, right? it's just a hat, you'll just have to find out.

Help Iâm thinking of Osamu Miya, 36, Onigiri Miya owner, 6â2, with muscles that were once defined and lean for Volleyball turned soft and cushioned by a layer of fat, meant more for throwing bags of rice and boxes of ingredients than reaching over a net.
Osamu Miya who always smells like cooking spice, rice starch, and the remnants of cologne that he put on at 4 in the morning in an attempt to be more human than onigiri master.
Osamu Miya who has one single dimple on his left cheek when he grins, and a small chip in one of his front teeth from when his brother elbowed him as a teenager, chews on his pens when heâs doing the restaurantâs budget, and still has text books from his business classes in uni because he âmight need to remember somethinâ.â
Osamu Miya who keeps his bitches constantly about his twin but always has his games playing on the tv in the corner and mysteriously has Atsumuâs favorites ready for him when they lose. Who goes to visit his mom every Saturday night so he can âdo his laundryâ even though he stopped bringing clothes over 8 years ago.
Osamu Miya who always makes sure to kiss you before he leaves in the morning, even if youâre still asleep in bed because sun hasnât even crested over the horizon yet. Who then laughs when he walks into the back office of the shop and finds you curled up on the ratty old couch he has against the wall, scratchy throw blanket his Gran knitted 5 decades ago wrapped around you as you sleep against his jacket.
Osamu Miya that grins, all dimple and chipped tooth, as you yawn and mumble that you couldnât sleep at home because he took his smell with him. Who thinks that maybe he wonât wait for a special occasion to give you that ring thatâs been burning a hole in his desk drawer.
Hello civilian kirishima
I should come up with a name for this au at some point
OH MY GOSH
