Senator Ben Cardin talks about the consequences of repealing ACA at a townhall in Maryland

Key takeaways from the townhall:

- We need at least 3 GOP Senators to vote down Reconciliation Bill that gives GOP ability to quickly repeal ACA. ACA is completely safe and intact until this is passed (expected January 27 at the earliest). If passed, it alone WILL NOT completely repeal ACA, but will start dismantling it as fast as GOP wants it to. There’s no clear calendar on when the repeal will take place because, as Sen. Cardin said, even GOP don’t know when will it take place, and they dictate the calendar. 

- NO REPLACEMENT is planned if and when GOP repeals ACA

- Get friends and family in red and purple states to call their senators, representatives and governors (e.g. Wisconsin, Kentucky) to support ACA

- Call republican officials (governors, senators, representatives, state legislatures) in your state

- Call Paul Ryan 202 225 3031 and Mitch McConnell 202 224 2541 to protect ACA, medicare and medicaid

-Tell stories on how ACA has helped you or someone you know

-Educate people what’s actually in the ACA, especially how it benefits all of us, not just the 22 million people who will be uninsured without it (e.g. in Kentucky, they call ACA KentuckyCare and think it’s different from Obamcare)

- BEST CASE SCENARIO: WE WILL NOT ONLY SAVE OBAMACARE, BUT IN THE “REPEAL AND REPLACE” EFFORTS, WE MIGHT GET GOP TO AGREE ON MAKING IMPROVEMENTS TO THE CURRENT ACA

- DMV area residents:

Stage demonstrations outside the Capitol during key ACA votes (likely will happen fast, so take part in rapid response efforts by grassroots organizations)
