Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated producer Tony Cervone confirmed Velma Dinkley was written as gay, though they could only show so much 10 years ago.
So the producer of Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated. has “confirmed” Velma is a lesbian. I’d be fine with this except canonically we’ve seen her in love with a man, or at least crushing on one.
This feels like bi erasure, much like when Joss Whedon decided Willow is a lesbian.
I would have preferred bi, Sapiosexual, or demi for Velma, especially since she already had a hetero love song on The Witch’s Ghost soundtrack.
And before anyone points out that this article specifically talks about the “Mystery Incorporated” version of Velma, that version has referenced events in The Witch’s Ghost…

2) mystery incorporated SPECIFICALLY shows how her and shaggy dating was bad and ended up being bad for both of them. her demeanor drastically changes after meeting the mermaid and befriending marcie
1. I’m not straight (not that it should matter) and I know this. BUT you don’t usually get love songs for those confused trial and error situations - and her attraction to Ben Ravencroft was based on intellectual connection (hence why I suggested sapiosexual or demi). I do NOT mind her being attracted to women. I’m all for that. But I feel like this is erasing the character’s past behavior and inclinations.

My point is her attractions seem to be based on intellectual / emotional connection, not physical attraction. And this producer doesn’t seem to even know those concepts and the terms for them.

2. (your 3). I was playing on the assumption that within Mystery Incorporated the referenced versions are canon as having happened. So by that reasoning all previous attractions Velma has shown (even on Mystery Inc, itself) were based on emotional / intellectual connection. Hence why though I am all for her being with women, I just don’t think lesbian is the right term. Based on character behavior (even within the show, and with the women she seems to have an attraction toward) I’d call that sapiosexual (attraction to intellect), or demi.

also i now see where our impasse lies. you believe that attraction to intellect somehow makes her not a lesbian. you can like intelligent people AND be a lesbian! liking someones intelligence has literally not preface on the gender of people youre attracted to
