Hi! I’m the person asking questions about ILYWT, and I have a few more, but before I ask them, I wanted to know if it’s okay to keep asking them? I watched Goblet of Fire recently and my Barty (both his canon and fanon version) fixation has come back full force, and the more I keep daydreaming about this AU, the more questions keep coming LMAO ILYWT and Barty, Voldemort, and Harry’s dynamic in this is absolutely fascinating to me. But I also know that some writers get annoyed about being pestered about their work sometimes, and I know you are focusing on other fanfictions right now and are very busy with your life, so if too many questions bother you, let me know so I can stop them!! I really don’t want to bother you LMAO
As for the questions, you’ve answered already that you didn’t plot the AU too much, so you can sit on them if you don’t feel like giving an answer. But here they are:
1. In Order of the Phoenix, Voldemort assigned Draco the task of murdering Dumbledore. The mission was designed by the Dark Lord to set Draco up to fail, since it served as punishment for Lucius, who had failed to retrieve the Prophecy. But in the movies, Voldemort is not very sane in the brain LMAO I know you write him differently from his movie and book versions — I wanted to know if in ILYWT he gives Draco the same mission? You did answer another ask saying that the Death Eaters do attack Hogwarts, and that Barty is the one leading them, so I wanted to know how differently the attack happens in this AU?
2. In Order of the Phoenix, Dumbledore avoids and ignores Harry due to the connection he shares with Voldemort, and because he also wanted to prevent Tom from using Harry as a spy. By minimizing their personal contact, he hoped to reduce the incentive to use Harry’s mind as a weapon. Also, because of the Horcrux, Voldemort was able to possess Harry. So I wanted to know if in ILYWT the same would happen? Like, does Tom use Harry’s mind like that? And possess him?
3. This question is related to question number 2, and it’s also about their connection. In some snippets, Tom could feel Harry’s emotions, so I’m wondering if he can feel what Harry feels physically? If he does, how does he react to the blood quills that Dolores uses to torture Harry? And how does Barty react to knowing this (if Tom tells him about it, of course)?
4. You made a snippet once, I think it was about the AU where Harry meets CS!Riddle, and he explains to Harry that after attacking the Potters and Lily escaping, he realized he wasn’t sane and decided to absorb one of his Horcruxes back. Does the same happen in this AU? I know you write your Tom very differently from his movie and book versions, and he is more sane than those versions, so I’m curious about how sane this Tom is? And if he did absorb one of his Horcruxes like CS!Riddle?
5. This question is about all versions of Tom, actually — and it’s about his ability to feel and love. In canon, it says Voldemort is incapable of love because he was conceived via the influence of a love potion. But it’s obvious in the way you write your Toms that he does love, even if you answered an ask once saying that being loved by Tom Riddle isn’t safe — which is true LMAO JKR once said that it’s more a symbolic way of showing that he came from a loveless union, but that everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him. So to me, it means that everything in his life was loveless, even his parents’ relationship. So I wanted to know what do you think about this? And how do you go about it too?
You’re absolutely fine to keep asking me questions! I’m slow at responding, so don’t be disheartened if I take a while to answer!
1. I don’t know if I’d have the Draco mission in this AU…on one hand, Lucius does fuck up with the prophecy, but the Ministry events go a bit different since Barty is the one leading the charge. The target is less the prophecy and more securing Harry and seeing if he’s a horcrux—which they do. So it’s possible that Voldemort doesn’t bother with Draco this time around. Maybe Voldemort still wants Dumbledore killed, and Barty is the one to loop Draco in but only to weaken Dumbledore? He’s not expected to kill him, he’s just needed to sneak some poison or cursed objects around to prepare their entry to Hogwarts. The attack on the school still happens, with Barty leading it, and Dumbledore is still killed by Snape. Death Eaters escape, but this time it’s Barty that confronts Harry at Hagrid’s hut?
2. Voldemort definitely knows Harry is a horcrux after the Ministry attack, so he’s 100% planning on leaning on that connection. Harry is inundated with dreams and emotions from Voldemort, seeking to weaken him and make him easier for Barty to nab.
3. I’d say he doesn’t get the physical sensations unless he’s fully submerged in the connection, so he’d feel the burst of fear and anger from Harry that Umbridge brings out when she’s torturing, but he’s trying not to be obvious and alert Dumbledore of how deeply he’s connected to Harry. I’d say Barty is the one to get the story out of him once Harry’s captured, and is the one to tell Voldemort. Barty would instantly slate Umbridge for death, but he wouldn’t act until Voldemort gave the go-ahead.
4. I’m not set on how sane or reasonable I’ll be making this Voldemort. I could swing it as the more time he spends in Harry’s head, the more sane he grows due to proximity to one of his horcruxes? And once Harry’s captured, that sanity continues to grow. It would add an element of Harry’s reluctance to escape – he’s bonded to Barty, obviously, but his presence is literally keeping Voldemort sane. Harry’s sacrificial nature would pretty much ensure he wouldn’t dip out even if he had the chance.
5. I don’t particularly care what Rowling says. She’s lost all my respect and I much more prefer to use what I want from HP to build up stories. I flip flop between the idea that love potion baby = unable to love. It could be interesting to take literally, but I prefer a Tom that is capable of love, but the way he shows and experiences it is in no way considered healthy. His version of love trips closer to obsession and greed.
