What RSA students hold during battles isn't actually a sword, it's a baton (a conductor's baton). It's an item that's separate from their magic-stone brooch meant to reinforce their visual theme, and it allows for more customization in appearance than a magical pen. Trein uses the same brooch-style magic stone as RSA, since I imagined both following a traditional style. (source)

Crewel also carries a rod, but he wears his magic stone dangling from a strap, giving off a flashier impression (his personal taste takes priority over tradition).

Vargas's bracelet is also just his own personal preference. I imagine that once they're adults they're free to design their magic stones however they like, so it might be fun to think about how the students will customize theirs in the future. (source)

The EN-server version of Riddle's line is "Malleus carrying me through the air in his arms," but his original dialogue is a little less vague.

Saying 小脇に抱えられて、Riddle is describing the arrangement as being the same as the fanart you have seen: tucked under Malleus' arm, not just carried in his arms to shore.

Unlike Jade and Azul, Riddle is not a “polite-speech (keigo) character,” instead using commanding/impersonal/standard-formal speech without deference, even to those older than himself.

A person on Yahoo! Questions brought up this point in 2021, saying that one of the reasons they dislike Riddle is because of how he speaks to older students, using authoritative phrasing even when he is addressing Leona, an upperclassman and member of royalty.

“The way he speaks to seniors like Leona, using words like ‘yoroshii.” (Especially when Leona is royalty…) He is good at studying, but does he have no common sense??”

Whereas Jade might have been raised to use polite speech and now applies it to keep up a boundary between himself and the people he wants to observe for his own amusement (more here ▶︎ ), Riddle might be utilizing his word word choice to assert authority and control.

As is common with hierarchy speech Riddle generally does not use polite phrasing with people his age or underclassmen (unlike Jade and Azul), but while he does adopt polite phrasing with upperclassmen it is inconsistent, with the degree of politeness he chooses to use varying by situation.

Riddle will use more casual/emotional phrasing with Trey and Cater, almost as though the strictness of how he expresses himself becomes more gentle when he feels safe/comfortable with whom he is speaking to (in contrast to Jade, who uses polite phrasing even with Floyd and Azul).

Much like Azul, Riddle's inconsistent use of polite speech might be an indication that his politeness is something he consciously adapts rather than being a natural part of how he communicates as it might be with Jade.

To compare the three: 

・Jade’s use of polite phrasing possibly comes the most naturally of all the characters, and he might be using it to keep space between himself and others, to observe those around him like mushrooms. 

・Azul’s use of polite phrasing is more strategic, coming apart when he is not consciously applying it, and possibly something he uses as a tool or weapon to his advantage, or to protect himself.

・Riddle’s use of polite speech is much more inconsistent, being dropped even with upperclassmen, and his word choice sounding more about enforcing his authority.

Riddle is not unaware of the rules of good manners, but he is maybe prioritizing his belief in his own correctness and that subsequent structure over social niceties. His speech is not technically, grammatically incorrect, but it does not have the deference that one would expect from a younger student, and can sound disrespectful or harsh.

Stepping away from politeness, there were also these comments on Riddle’s use of speech on Twstsoku, with commenters making the connection that Riddle’s use of commanding phrases and strict forms of expression are maybe things that he picked up from his mother:

“I really love how, in the little turns of phrase Riddle uses, like ‘You understand, don’t you?’ or ‘That’s not something you should be saying.' You can feel his good upbringing. Is that the right way to put it? 🦞 greets everyone across the world watching online, saying Hello in English

🌹 reveals a single white rose in the decorations and says there is no table with white tablecloth, oh no

❤️ changes out the white rose with a red one saying it is ♠️’s fault ww and tables with white tablecloths are brought out.

🌹 sits in the largest chair in the center, sharped like a heart. (During the after party he says he had not expected the chair and it had surprised him, and 🦞 says it suited him)

Then they talk about how everyone in the audience is wearing red and white and black.

🌹 says that recording for the anime was very fun. Because they have been through so much in five years there is so much they want to put into the performances but they can’t, because it’s the beginning again.

They talk about the new angle that is Yuuken.

I was trying to say that from the instances he describes entering dreams—before getting involved with the Ignihyde duo—it was more randomised. Based on his wording of “some sort of association with,” it could range from people he’s interacted with briefly to people he knows deeply.

So, to me, meeting a child his age could be so impactful that it would prompt a second more enlightening meeting in a dream—more so for Silver who rarely ever encountered people in Briar Valley, especially a human.

Haha that would be really cute, huh! But silver can only join a dream of someone he has a bond with, I don’t think just meeting as kids once would do 🤔

10 minutes before opening of the show there was a short opening message by Crewel, Trein (with Lucius) and Grim. Every time Crewel talked everyone would scream ww ahhh so exciting!!

Opening: Absolutely Beautiful I was also at Twst Fes in 2023 where this 3D performance was first revealed and I think it was revamped? It was so, so stunning, loved it so much!

(I was also in balcony seating last time and on the ground floor in front this time, which is maybe related? 💦)

The Absolutely Beautiful performance was followed by Piece of My World and I think Cater's appearance might have gotten the greatest screams, it was great 🔸 It was more an MV montage of character shots, no dancing or anything, love this song so much, full version.

Octavinelle was followed by Scarabia, there is a part where Kalim is on his knees in front and Jamil is standing behind him. He raises his hands out like he is puppeteering Kalim on invisible strings from behind as Kalim moves like a puppet, amazing.

Also during the Scarabia song there is a part where they swap sides of the stage and when they overlap they high-five, I screamed, we all screamed.

Every time they did a high kick, there was screaming.

Jamil left the stage after a silent bow, there was screaming.

Scarabia was followed by the Ignihyde song, Ortho is so small. He did a little flying and even flew in a loop like in the Rave UP UP! rhythmic!!

And Idia twice did a gesture with him of cutting an invisible string to match the lyrics, it was amazing everything amazing.

After Ignihyde song there was a short break.

It started with Cater and Trey coming out on stage and talking about Idia and Ortho's performance. They were then joined by Floyd, Jade, Jack, and Ruggie. Ruggie is amazing.

They were all talking to each other about appealing to the audience, then Silver and Sebek walked on, too, and lots of interactions about putting on a good show. I specifically remember Ruggie getting called out for being out of character (way too high-energy and trying to appeal) and talked about how they are on order from Leona, then Lilia teleported in and said he had been on the ceiling the entire time.

Each character gave their intros ("Cater Diamond of Heartslabyul!" etc.), all the time interacting with each other.

When other guys were talking to the audience the others who weren't were interacting with each other, you couldn't hear them but it was like they were talking with one another.

Cater is big on physical touch apparently, every time he put a hand on Trey's shoulder the girls across the aisle from me squealed, so much fun~

Everyone has done their intros, Silver has fallen asleep on his feet like a horse, Sebek wakes him up.

Silver introduces himself and then they all talk about how much they practiced.

The twins are so tall standing next to Trey and Cater.

While talking about their hard work Jack says that he has never seen Leona move this much and probably never will again.

Floyd says that Jade and Azul looked ridiculous when they were first learning the dance and offers to show us all a video he took from when they were practicing, Jade stops him because it is private information. Jade then assures the audience that he was not as bad as Azul.

Break is over, next song is Malleus' Overblot song, the girls across the aisle are screaming "Waka-sama" 🐉

At least twice the camera focuses low and then slowly pans up along his body, we get to see his tail 🦁 Also: lion ears! Then a third pan up.

Rook appears first, alone. He is sassy. He has the audience repeat "Beauté, 100 points!" Rook is joined by Ruggie, Floyd, who are silently interacting to the side with very "Can you believe this guy," energy.

Ace appears with Ortho and this is maybe the biggest scream we've had all night. I think Ace is a lot more popular than I'd realized.

Ortho is adorable, explains that the little gestures and greeting that he did were copied from famous idols when called out by Floyd.

Malleus teleports in, is joined by teleporting-in Lilia.

Ruggie is so sassy I love him.

All the characters are complimenting each other's performances. The way Floyd moves when he talks, they did such a great job on his animations.

Another note: Ruggie is so cute.

Floyd is stretching by himself off to the side.

Suddenly Grim's voice! The characters interact with him as if he is sitting in the audience watching with the prefect.

Ace tells the prefect that they need to support him the most out of everyone and there is SO much screaming.

Break is over, everyone walks off and Malleus is last on the stage, says he still has a gift to give.

It opens with Rook and Epel alone, walking towards one another from opposite sides of the stage. When they overlap in the middle suddenly Vil appears between them, such a great entrance.

In the lyrics of Pomefiore song there is a part about waltzing over white snow and during that part Vil and Rook actually waltz with one another, it is amazing.

The song ends and the girls in front of me are quietly chanting "Heartlsabyul, Heartslabyul, Heartslabyul" ww

The rules of Heartslabyul seem to be following a consistent continuity, with no two rules accidentally applied to the same number, for example, or any rules accidentally referred to by two different numbers, etc :>

There are 810 rules of Heartslabyul which Yana has explained is because of the way "heart" is pronounced in Japanese:

Heart is read as ハート / hah - toh, with "hah" being one way that the number 8 can be pronounced and "toh" being one way that 10 can be pronounced.

Riddle says that he is capable of reciting all 810 rules and he is not pleased by the thought that non-students do not know them.

The ones we have seen in the game thus far are as follows!

Rule 1, You must run at top speed forever and always remain in the same spot.

Rule 23, One must never bring a cat to a formal affair

When it comes to the Queen of Hearts rules I consider Riddle’s quotes to be the closest thing to an official version, but in his Halloween SSR he mentions “a rule,” but not which number 😣

Based on these factors, the rule itself may either be phrased differently or be longer than the quotes provided.

Summary: Eggs and Hoverboards

“Egg of (profession)” is a Japanese-language idiom that can be used to describe someone who is in training to become something, like a law student being an egg of a lawyer, or an aspiring idol being an egg of an idol.

Wordplay comes up constantly in Twst. Crowley’s “whip of love,” for example, is both a Japanese-language expression for “tough love” and a literal magical object that he uses to bind people, accompanied by a whipping sound. More here ▶︎

"Egg of a magic user" comes up often in Twst, but as “egg of thing” is not a typical turn of phrase in English it makes sense that this was changed in the English-language adaptation for the game.

At first it was removed, but eventually the EN team started incorporating it as “fledgling” instead of “egg.”

While this is possibly the closest that the English language can come to recreating Yana’s wordplay, it is not quite encapsulating the same symbolism: As Yana herself explains,
