In their first year, they watch Shiratorizawa playing in nationals, and Sakusa is drooling over Ushijima, his middle school crush. Komori, on the other hand, thinks Ushijima's red-haired friend with wide smile and big eyes is way hotter. "I like when they are a bit weird" he says. (Years later, when Ushijima and Tendou got together, Sakusa and Komori mumble to each other "you wouldn't have a chance, he has good taste".)

Sakusa reads about Bokuto in Volleyball Monthly and becomes obsessed. Komori sees Matsukawa once somewhere and is about to propose. Asahi Azumane looks like a dream to Sakusa. Komori thinks Enoshita Chikara is a blessing to his eyes.

Komori needs a date? Sakusa says he should try looking in a cemetery. Sakusa needs a date? Komori says a bodybuilder contest is the right place to go. Sakusa is scared of all Komori's boyfriends because they could be vampires, Komori is scared of all Sakusa's boyfriends because they could beat the shit out of him.
