Author’s note: This was written for week 5 of Klaroline Fanfic Week @klarolinefanficweek - Soulmates. Caroline’s people were starving in their war-torn lands and she’s traveled to the Stygian Court to beg Prince Klaus for mercy.

If It Pleases the Prince

            Everyone stared. Caroline only had come to Stygian Court thrice and the spoiled, utterly useless courtiers stared every time. She flushed with anger at their cutting whispers about her patched skirts and threadbare cloak, envisioning how she could widen those vicious grins with the silver dagger secreted at her thigh. The clanging of brass bells told her the master guardsman had raced ahead to announce her arrival.

            Where he waited.

            She fearlessly lifted her head as she delivered searing glares to those gathered, her unbound waves swirling angrily and catching on the series of rings pierced into her pointed ears that signified her clan. She stomped her boots hard enough that the silver heel gouged the moonstone slab of the throne room entrance. There. Let them rage against that offense to the lofty Royals.

            For Prince Klaus was a volatile prince of the tyrant King Mikael, entrusted with overseeing the war-torn lands that bordered the boiling black waters of the River Styx. The arrogant, cruel Royal Family were the cause of her people’s wretched plight. And gods-be-damned, Prince Klaus would fix it. 

THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (2009)

Author’s note: This was written for week 4 of Klaroline Fanfic Week @klarolinefanficweek - Science Fiction. Being trapped in a time loop was terrible. But being trapped with Klaus was worse...until it wasn’t.

Hour of Need

            Time loop 89 broke Klaus. But it had been building since at least loop 50 or so. Caroline couldn’t fault him for it — she’d had her own breakdown around loop 35. Plus, Klaus having to watch his brother’s corpse burn while he was powerless behind Bonnie’s barrier spell was a special kind of cruelty that Caroline was shocked to learn her childhood friend possessed.

            The loops always ended the moment the flames finished roasting Kol’s corpse, the fire snuffing out on the blackened, ashy flesh to leave behind an acrid stench. From what little research they could do in the brief window each time loop allowed, Bonnie’s barrier spell had given the air an extra magical charge so that when Elena and Jeremy staked Kol (and consequently murdered the thousands of vampires in his sireline), it created a seemingly infinite time loop. The world always revolved around Elena; it made sense she’d be the one to break it.

The Trouble with Inheritance

            Caroline was starting to think the cave slowly filling with water was the least of her problems. She and Klaus had managed to avoid arguing nearly the whole trip to the underground caverns in Mystic Falls — probably a record for them. But then Klaus stupidly pushed that carved lever which triggered a cave-in. And when the river water started coming in, Caroline worriedly wondered aloud if Kol had made it through the tunnels.

            Ever since then, Klaus had giving her the silent treatment. Because apparently they were in middle school. “If this is about me losing the map while I was stealing that guy’s wallet, Kol and I already took detailed pictures with our phone, so the trail should be pretty easy to pick up again.” When Kol had asked for her help, she’d agreed right away, but he’d conveniently left out that Klaus was joining them. Jackass.

            Klaus scoffed, his tone icy as he said, “Oh yes, you and Kol are quite the clever pair.”

            “What the hell does that mean?” Klaus always had been Kol’s asshole older brother ever since she met Kol bartending a couple of years ago, but this was ridiculous. The entire trip had been ridiculous though. After the funeral, Mikael’s herd of lawyers had gathered the entire family to read the will. And that was when they learned what a sadistic, controlling bastard he truly was.

Mystic Falls Hustle

            It was hardly surprising to see a May-December couple at such an elegant event. Distinguished gentleman whose surnames carry such wealth and prestige cannot pass up the opportunity to adorn themselves with a shamefully young, sparkly little ornament. Although Caroline, the bubbly blonde at Mikael’s side had garnered the attention of many as she coyly showed the stoic CEO an impudent salsa step that pulled surprising barks of laughter from the merciless financial tycoon known as the “Hunter of Wall Street”.

            Caroline’s ruby lips curved into a sultry pout as she teased, “Should I be flattered or insulted by your sons’ pickup lines?” 

           “Flattered, of course. And perhaps a touch mystified that any of my wayward progeny possessed good taste,” Mikael grumbled, throwing a dark look over Caroline’s bare shoulder at Niklaus, the most recent of his sons to attempt a crude introduction. 

Author’s note: This was written for week 3 of Klaroline Fanfic Week @klarolinefanficweek - Crime. This is a Klaroline fusion with the horror movie, Valentine. Caroline’s friends are being murdered and the creepy cupid mask left at the crime scenes point to a connection in their pasts. 

Slaying Cupid

            And Caroline had been so happy tonight. She and Klaus had indulged in a hedonistic dinner of prosciutto-wrapped figs, smoked oysters, and honeyed port truffles — and then indulged in each other in the cab ride back to their condo. It had been another perfect date night that had ended as they always did — in a sweaty, satisfied mess of tangled limbs. And then her phone rang.

            Bonnie was so hysterical when Caroline answered, she only caught every fourth word or so, but finally was able to piece together that something had happened to Elena. Elena was gone. Murdered.

            Caroline clutched the silky bedsheet tight around her body,  shivering despite her sweat-slicked limbs. Klaus wrapped his arms around her, murmuring comforting words that let her know somehow they’d make it through this nightmare.

Clever human Caroline procures rare objects for obscenely wealthy supernatural clients, but her newest client has included a ridiculously complicated component to her job. She definitely should’ve raised her rates.

How to Steal a Moonstone

This is it. Bold stare only. Act like you own the place. Show no fear. It was Caroline’s ongoing mantra as she prepared for yet another risky meeting with her most dangerous client yet. “The price just doubled,” she told Klaus, sliding into the booth across from him. He certainly could afford it. All of her clients could — after all, she only catered to a very elite, very specific clientele. Caroline was a bundle of nervous energy, but had downed Gloria’s special blend of wild chamomile, rosemary, and Angelica root to prevent powerful supernatural creatures like Originals from detecting her pulse racing or slight tremors that reveal her secrets.

Choosing Chicago for her home base had been the best decision she’d ever made. Getting drunk at Gloria’s bar the night Klaus had been in town had been the most idiotic.            

Klaus leaned back, contemplating her in his disquieting manner of stillness with a predatory heat. And it always left her more than a little aroused. As if she needed further proof of how fucked-up she was.

POCAHONTAS (1995)

Author’s note: This was written for week 2 of Klaroline Fanfic Week @klarolinefanficweek - Historical. (Takes place in 1492 England, after Klaus and Elijah have brought Katerina to the castle.) Caroline had no interest in the romantic entanglements of her masters. Fortunately, as a lowly scullery maid, she was below their notice. Until she wasn’t.

Kind Whispers

            It was not for Caroline to say. No matter how unseemly Lady Katerina’s behavior. Scullery maids weren’t to form opinions on their betters. Although if Lady Katerina was her “better”, Caroline would eat the ash pile she’d just swept from the hearth. It caused quite the stir about the castle when Lord Niklaus invited Lady Katerina to stay. He was courtingher. Lord Niklaus was handsome in the way of nobles, high-spirited and always engaged in much merrymaking, but never was one for courting. 

            A rosy blush mayhap stain her cheeks whenever Lord Niklaus rode past the gardens upon his swift courser, powerful lines of master and horseflesh flowing as one with every gallop. But her reaction was merely a maidenly appreciation for nature in all its splendor. And nothing more.
