Being crazy about a piece of media for any amount of time will leave a weird mark on you forever because years later you’ll see someone posting something about it like “can we talk about this frame” and you’ll be like “ah that frame. i know all about that frame. I was once a scholar of that frame.”

they should make a pill that makes people in their 20s feel good about where their lives are going
Impressive to me that no one said the same thing twice
World Heritage Post
This car ride was too sweet, especially since it's happening after they both know they love each other but still won't say it
Lili is Kit's ultimate muse
Ok actually no I have more to say about Can this love be translated?
I LOVE that they are soooo capital A Avoidant and capital A Anxious attachment styles. I don't know that ive seen a drama that has really leaned into that in a realistic and non campy way. This felt like a real depiction of two people on opposite ends of that spectrum slowly making their way to the middle (secure). It's more obvious with Mu Hee because of her trauma and backstory (she is the true main character imo) but Ho Jin goes through just as big of a change in learning to express his feelings instead of keeping everything so close to the chest.
A few small things I love about Ho Jin in no particular order: his absolute insistence that ppl refer to Mu Hee by her actual name and not Do RaMi because she is a PERSON and he insists on that before her acting or her public image. That was the biggest green flag for me. 2, hes quiet without being a pushover. He has presence, he takes up space. Yes hes avoidant in many ways, but he's also very grounded and dedicated to his work. I can only imagine how much Seonho worked on all those languages because they all sounded pretty good to me. 3, he looks damn good in a trench coat and a turtleneck. Jesus.
I Loved the "there are as many languages as there are people" exchange. Beautifully written. And an ahjussi who is wise and gives good advice instead of being stupid or comic relief only, how refreshing
Go Youn Jung really distinguished Mu Hee from Do Ra Mi perfectly but especially in her physical performance. Omg she did this micro eye twitch and then the world's tiniest eyebrow raise in the scene where he ends up paying for the wine. Just incredible, I was clapping.
Funnily enough, Yeon U, who is younger than either Mu Hee or Ho Jin, is probably the most Secure attachment in the show, despite jumping the gun on a proposal lol. But I love that guy and I wish nothing but the best for him.
Overall the concept of language and translation is an excellent concept for a romance as they learn to understand each other. But seriously, "can this love be translated" is so clunky, and something with "love language" is Right There. But maybe thats not a thing in Korea, idk. Edit: it is tho, because its a TXT song!!
And of course, this whole show was a visual feast, from the landscapes to shot comp to color grading to Ho Jin's house omg sir you are NOT selling that house. Anyway the point is, Would i watch it again just for the visuals? Yes I would.
What a great drama to kick off the year!
Joo Ho Jin is wealthy af. Is smart af. Wrote a whole book at 18 or something. Can cook. Has a gorgeous collection at home.
But man can he follw a map. Nope. His fatal flaw is navigation. And add Mu Hee to the mix. Man realises he cannot interpret his mother tongue either.
Kim Seon Ho. Never stop acting please. Because the gravitas you brought to this character is everything.

Mu Hee: *confesses her feelings to Ho Jin* Ho Jin: no. Mu Hee *embarrassed*: You jerk. I'll be back again.
Hiro teasing Mu Hee saying he'll snitch about her to Ho Jin.
Mu Hee goes he knows already

Her evil aunt and uncle threaten her saying they'll tell Ho Jin about her past.

im so fucking angry right now. When people stereotype all asians with having rice cookers, i am excluded because most indians dont have a rice cooker. When people talk about beautiful places in asia, i am excluded, because it rarely ever includes an indian location. When people wear "scandinavian scarves" and desi-inspired clothing, i am excluded, because they hate indians and just want to appropriate our fashion and culture to their white tastes. When people talk about poc's music, i am excluded, because they almost never mention an indian person's music. When people talk about poc art, i am excluded, because nobody cares about our rich history with art. When people talk about basic history such as the ancient civilizations, i am excluded, because no one ever grew up learning about the Harappan Civilization [ancient india] unless they were in an indian school.
Time and time again, indians are excluded and othered, and our culture, history, art, music, clothing, etc. is either fetishized or ignored entirely. Nobody makes an effort to learn about our culture and heritage, let alone state and area-specific things, such as bengali films and cuisine or dances from kerala and tamil nadu or lucknow's chikan kari clothing or the several different variations of biriyani or the general diversity of the subcontinent. Nobody cares about desi people and im fucking sick of it.
tags from op,
some of the most ostentatious stuff they've appropriated and act like they invented, an incomplete list:
yoga. i cannot explain how MUCH i loathe white yoga teachers who know 'namaste' as the only sanskrit word ever. beer yoga, tantric yoga, christian yoga etc etc. kys.
dupatta. it's not a fucking scandinavian scarf. shut the fuck up.
turmeric latte. words cannot explain how angry this makes me. you're telling me something my fucking GRANDPARENTS drunk as kids, and so did theirs, is made up now and today by white wellness enthusiasts who have unlocked the health secrets of turmeric?
do i have to mention the kolhapuri chappal debacle? the sheer audacity to 'be inspired' from a GEOTAGGED ITEM, and caopy it almost exactly and sell it for inflated prices is audacious.
MEDITATION and pranayam. this is another thing that truly pisses me off to unforseen levels. fucking just. credit the cultures where it originated it's not that HARD???
also the fact that chintz is indian? and we've never seen it acknowledged?
madras cotton prints. it was imported to the usa, and bled when washed bc vegetable dyes were used to make them, and is now called "heritage check".
dior's mukaish embroidery theft? talked about for a net of two days in desiblr circles and then forgotten.
jaqcard that's used widely in western couture collections? woven in kashmir.
bandhani -> bandanna is also well known i think.
as a society we need to bully kdrama writers into dropping the childhood connection trope it's literally a blight on mankind
