You were definitely going to kill him, very soon, preferably with a hard and blunt object.

"Okay, fine. Have you underlined the changes, or have you been slacking off too?" You asked him harshly, fists clenching a pen from the holder next to you.

He smiled, "Oh, no! Unlike you, I do my job properly and don't daydream on desks."

Great.

He was in one of his moods where he would try and make your life a living hell.

If this was any other day, you'd given him the same treatment right back; but unfortunately, you felt like keeling over on a bed any minute now.

The clock nearby blared:

1:27 AM.

You had finished 2 ibuprofens alongside revising and editing everything almost 6 hours before publication.

Usually, you'd be disappointed if you couldn't, but today was an exception where you felt immense relief and a little bit of pride surging up.

Damn that Baru.

You weren’t sure if you could drive 2 km in a straight line in your current state, so you were going to have to book a cab.

At 1:30 AM.

So, yeah.

Someone would be facing the toughest week of their career once you got better—you would make sure of it.

You massaged your temples tiredly as you shut the laptop lid down, the disappearance of the blue light easing your eye strain a little bit.

All you wanted was some warm food and a nice cold blanket to fall asleep under.

You sighed, pushing back your chair, and picked up your bag on your shoulder as you yawned, before wincing at the ever-present and increased ache in your legs.

Shaking your head a little to clear up the fog, you looked back into your office once more to check if you'd forgotten anything, before clicking the door shut softly and locking in with the key.

As soon as you stepped out, a gust of chilled night-air slapped you with an unpleasant sensory shock, making you shiver as the cold wind brushed your flushed face.

'I should have brought my jacket—'

What happened next made you want to jump from the second floor you were standing currently.

You squeaked like a startled mouse as a hand landed on your shoulder, albeit lightly, out of nowhere.

"...Editor-ji?"

You turned around to see a slightly surprised looking Baru whose hand was retreating from your shoulder and holding his own briefcase in the other.

"Do you always try to give other people a heart attack at this time of the night?" You asked with a smile consisting of gritted teeth and rising blood pressure.

"No, it's only reserved for you, darling," His tone made you want to throw him off the railing as he continued running his mouth, "Though, I do must say that you took your sweet time in finishing up, didn't you?"

"Ah, yes, sorry I took my sweet time in finishing 50 pages."

Your seething look alongside your fake apologetic tone still didn't seem to deter him or his continuous mocking.

"You know, I heard your newest intern managed to finish a lot more than you did in a day..." He shrugged before continuing, "Just saying."

"I think your post is up for grabs more than mine is, Baru, after that interview mishap of yours..." You retorted cleanly, as you turned away to head towards the staircase down the hallway without looking back. "Just saying."

As soon as you finished climbing down the flight of stairs, you suddenly felt a lot more nauseous than before and your head was suddenly gripped in a stunning headache alongside your existing fatigued legs.

'Fuck.'

You felt like crying, but you'd be damned if you couldn't wait to do so till you reached home.

You cursed yourself for being such a workaholic—half of which was Baru's fault.

"—llo? Did you fall asleep standing up? That's new."

How did you forget the real headache was still behind you?

You turned to your side to look at him, already exhausted by today.

"...What? What do you want?"

"Nothing, just wondering if you're planning on falling asleep standing up." He said rather cheerily for someone awake past 1 am.

His words faded to nothing as you felt your blurry vision and a wave of lightheadedness completely take over, making you waver on your own heel-clad feet—and the stony pavement was the last thing you saw before everything was swallowed by darkness and the flashes of heat searing through your body.

It was dark, for a long time.

How long?

...You didn't know.

Did you go splat on the pavement in front of him?

You weren't fully conscious, just half-awake, when you tried to peel your eyes open, only to face a dim-yellow lighted ceiling and the feeling of soft, silk pillows beneath your (injured?) head.

You could also feel the itch in the back of your throat slowly reveal itself, making you let out a confused and pained whine with your scratchy voice.

“—Hey, c’mon, don’t even try to sit up,” a familiar voice reprimanded from your bedside, “Lay down! For goodness sake…”

You gave up on trying to make yourself upright in less than 5 seconds after your limbs turned into lead.

A sudden cold, wet feeling on your blazing hot forehead made you jump a little, but soon, you eased into the refreshing feeling which gave you relief from the heat enveloping your body.

“Relax, I’m just changing the cloth.”

The voice was laden with exhaustion and relief combined, at least as much as you could tell in your current headspace.

As soon as you were almost back in your dreamland, you felt a blunt end of a straw poking your lips, demanding you open them.

You grunted and whined for about a minute before the voice spoke again, “Why are you so stubborn even like this…You need these electrolytes, c’mon, open up.”

You had deemed the voice very annoying and very demanding, and very unlikable.

Begrudgingly, you did drink the entire bottle of that flavored water(?), before your relieved head collapsed on the soft pillows once more.

“…You really are a handful,”

The voice didn’t sound like its owner’s actions, as the very next moment you felt a large, warm hand caressing the top of your head softly, almost grounding you into a comfortable headspace where sleep immediately took over.

“You stupid woman…”
