Instead of cursing her to an eternal sleep or death, Maleficent declares that the princess will grow up to betray the kingdom and serve her instead. So the king sends Aurora away, but one day the young adventurous girl strays a bit too far and right into her territory.
And of course Maleficent is like "hey kid do you wanna learn some totally normal magic that is not dark or evil at all"

my mom once told me i was a ski jumper in a past life because she dreamed about a ski jumper dying in a terrible accident when she was pregnant with me, and said it was definitely true cause the ski jumper in her dream was also blonde. i never had the heart to tell her this is absolutely not something catholics can believe.

There's people for whom "we're leaving in the morning" means "we ride at dawn motherfuckers, you can finish waking up and getting dressed in the car, we'll grab breakfast somewhere along the way", and there's people for whom it means "we'll get going somewhere before noon".
And then they get married.
The Morning
Somewhere Near Houston, Texas : August 26, 2023
Itâs convenient to be an early riser; the kind of person who wakes up refreshed and naturally alert at the ass-crack of dawn, most days before the alarm has even gone off. Not that heâs ever been swayed all too much by fables praising early birds and worms or any of that other stuff old folks are always going on about, but in a practical sense Leroy has always found it more useful than not to be up before the sun. Itâs the best time to do chores and work, to tend to the horses; the best time to go for a drive and crank up the radio. Best time to get a head start on the things that matter, in those quiet hours while the rest of the world is still sleeping. Lifeâs too short as it is, no sense wasting the daylight.
Of course, not everybody sees it that way. Lee smiles to himself and artfully slips out from under the tangle of pillows, blankets, and long blond hair, careful not to jostle the slumbering form at his side. Luckily heâs had plenty of practice over the years; though in great contrast to the many who came before, this is as far from a one night stand as it gets. He pauses briefly to pull the sheet back up over Hannahâs swollen belly, letting his hand linger there just a moment in hopes of feeling a tiny punch or kick. None are forthcoming, as usual. It would seem the twins take their beauty rest as seriously as their mother. He leaves them to it.
It doesnât take long for him to shower and throw on some clothesâheâs always prided himself on being a particularly low maintenance specimenâand dawn is still teasing the horizon by the time he shuffles into the kitchen. Uncle Mal is already there, fussing over something on the stove. âMorninâ,â Lee greets as he tosses his jacket on the table and sidles over to pour himself a cup of coffee, more chipper than anyone has any business being before the sun is up.
ââIs it?â Malcolm replies absently, glancing up from the pan as though heâs just been pulled from some deep thought that most certainly didnât involve the pork sausage sizzling away at the end of his spatula.
Leroy only chuckles under his breath. His uncle doesnât sleep much, thatâs nothing new, but in recent months he seems to have traded in passing his time in the laboratory for the kitchen. This is where Lee finds him most mornings now, toiling over comfort food instead of alchemy. Then again, maybe the two disciplines arenât so different; one just involves a whole lot more butter. âQuiet âround this place, since the olâ man anâ that damn bird been gone. Doc still here?â âNo, Ig had tâ go take care of some things.â Mal replies almost wistfully. âHe wonât be back for a few days.â Lee resists the urge to make an inappropriate joke. âSo who the Hell yaâ cookinâ all that for? Ainât no one here can eat it âcept you, me, anâ ZadâŚanâ I ainât gonnaâ be hanginâ âround for breakfast.â
âI donât know,â his uncle murmurs as though heâs only just considered the notion himself, and reaches for his coffee mug. Lee is fairly certain whateverâs in it, itâs not coffee. âWhere are you off to, Leroy?â he asks after a moment. âShouldnât run out on an empty stomach. If youâre in that much of a hurry I can pack yaâ some tâ go.â
Part of him wonders if heâll ever get used to the man who looks and sounds just like his father speaking to him so gently. Itâs unsettling in a warm, fuzzy kind of way that makes him sad all the same. ââYeah, guess thatâd be alright,â Lee relents, not because heâs hankering for a breakfast burrito so much as itâs hard not to appreciate the sentiment behind it. âBeen workinâ on somethinâ down by the creek. Figure after I turn out the horses Iâll put a few hours in there âfore Hannah wakes up.â  Â
Thereâs a soft clank of cast iron as Mal sets the pan down and hobbles over to the cupboard to fetch a bit of tinfoil. âWorkinâ on what?â
Lee flashes his signature lopsided grin. âJust somethinâ special.â
A distinctly skeptical look is tossed his nephewâs way, but Malcolm doesnât pry. âIf you say so.â He turns back to the counter to assemble the burrito, and Lee doesnât miss the way his fingers tremble as he piles the fillings high and rolls everything neatly in a foil cocoon. âNeed a hand?â
âNah, Iâm good. Gonnaâ drag Zad along,â Leroy explains, draining the last swallow from his coffee cup before swooping over to snatch the oversized to-go meal from his uncleâs hand. He grabs his jacket off the table as he walks by. âYou seen âem this morninâ?â
âReckonâ theyâre probably out on the front porch.â
âAight,â Lee waves back over his shoulder, already heading for the door, âCatch yaâ later, Uncle Mal. Thanks for breakfast.â
ââWait, Leroy. Hold up a minute.â
He stops and turns around, looking expectantly at his uncle. âYeah?â
Malcolm stands beside the table, holding something in the palm of his hand. âThis mustaâ fallen outtaâ your jacket,â he drawls, and lets his fingers unfurl to reveal a small ring; a simple white gold band adorned with an unusual stone that sparkles brighter than any star in the sky even in the dimly lit kitchen. âIs it what I think it is?â
Lee shrugs, padding over to pluck the ring from his uncleâs hand and tucking it back into his pocket. âDepends what yaâ think it is.â
A tight frown pulls across Malâs lips, and he sinks into the nearest chair. âJesus Christ. Toniâs gonnaâ shoot you again.â
âWhyâs everybody always sayinâ that like itâs normal behavior?â
âNormalâs relative.â
One of Santiagoâs old cuckoo clocks chimes faintly from the hallway, drawing Leeâs gaze in that direction. The first rays of dawn are beginning to pour through the windows, painting lines of light across the Spanish tiles on the floor, and he stares at them for a long moment. The morningâs wasting. âGuess so. Listen, I get youâre fixinâ tâ go off âbout how Iâm a selfish fuckinâ peckerbrained imbecile anâ all, but itâs gonnaâ have tâ wait cuzâ I ainât really got time for another lecture right nowââ
âNo lecture,â Malcolm interrupts, folding his hands neatly on the table in front of him, âbut I have got somethinâ I need tâ say.â His reading glasses are sliding down the bridge of his nose, and thereâs grease from the frying pan splattered onto his shirt, but the deeply thoughtful expression thatâs settled over his face is far more composed. âI love you anâ Iâm proud of youâŚâ Â
Leeâs shields are up, ready to deflect, but the words fly right through the defenses and hit him square in the chest where he feels every syllable like a shot through the heart. âJust said I ainât got time forâŚyouâreâŚwait, what?â
âI ainât your daddy, I know that, but heâs not here tâ say it anâ you need tâ hear it. Iâm sorry you havenât heard it enough.â His uncle continues, soft spoken yet earnestly. âYouâre a good man, Leroy. Youâre gonnaâ be a good father, anâ Hannahâs as lucky tâ have you as you are tâ have her. You both deserve tâ be happy.â
Lee is silent for what feels like a moment that stretches on and on and on. There was a timeâmost of his childhood, reallyâwhen he would have given anything he had for little more than a kind word from his own father. Itâs been years since he stopped asking himself why; and maybe heâs never fully come to terms with the hand heâd been dealt, but he canât say itâs ever occurred to him that heâs been carrying the crushing weight of someone elseâs burden all along. âUncle Mal,â Lee ventures finally; voice tight and throat burning. Hesitating again, he swallows thickly, and hopes itâs enough to hide his sniffle. âThatâs gottaâ be without a doubt the gayest shit youâve ever said tâ me.â Â
Malcolm huffs a quiet laugh under his breath, and shakes his head. âYeah, well, next time Iâll try sayinâ it straighter.â
Slowly, that same lopsided grin pulls its way across Leroyâs face once more. âThanks for sayinâ it.â
