what is absolutely NOT acceptable is taking the content YOU deem worthy and putting it elsewhere in order to earn Internet Points. 

that means: reblogging a twilight meme you think is funny with tags like “i hate twilight but…” “i can’t believe twilight is back, y’all bitches are crazy but i laughed” or otherwise making disparaging comments about the fandom, or somehow implying that twilight is some awful, shameful girly thing that should be destroyed except for This One Worthy Piece of Content that’s allowed to stay, because you declared it so

that means: reblogging/sharing twilight content from 2018/19 in order to make fun of or shame the people who made it

that means: distancing yourself from the fandom but trying to look funny and original by posting renaissance content on different platforms without credit or permission

yeah, we see you, Buzzfeed. And you, Ranker. And we DEFINITELY see YOU, Julia Laskowski. 

The twilight renaissance is not here for you to profit off of, financially or socially. It is not here for you to exploit. You guys all did plenty of that a decade ago. 

The twilight renaissance is a smallish group of hilarious, mostly gay, mostly women, who were mocked mercilessly for their harmless interest in a popular piece of media when they were actual children. This is us, grown up, refusing to feel shame over something that brings us joy, rejecting the invasive sexism that made twilight so popular to hate in the first place, and engaging critically with a piece of media that was a transformative part of our lives. To everyone’s shock, we’ve managed to create a fairly positive, self-aware and constructively critical, fun, welcoming, queer friendly space out of something that reeked of toxicity a few years ago.

I’m Julia from the post calling out people who are “profiting” from the Twilight fandom. I want to clear a few things up.

1.) I’ve liked this series for almost 10 years.

2.) I’m not straight, so implying that I’m somehow making fun of lesbians for liking the fandom is bullshit.

3.) I properly credited the people who made the posts where I could.

4.) It’s not like I’m getting money for sharing these screenshots.

5.) I don’t appreciate my Facebook page being blasted on this platform.

Calling out someone when you don’t know shit about their intent or their identity is ridiculous. That’s all.

We never said you weren’t gay or into twilight, we called you out for “ trying to look funny and original by posting renaissance content on different platforms without credit or permission “ Whether or not you’re gay or like twilight is kinda irrrelevant to that. 

3) you didn’t include links to anyone’s posts/blogs OR get permission to share publicly on a different platform, and downloaded and shared picture-based memes without crediting the creators AT ALL, even with a username. I personally found at least 2 edits of mine (that i spent hours on) you put on one of your facebook posts without ANY credit, mixed in with a ton of other memes from different blogs

4) i explicitly talk about ppl getting Internet Points and attention/fame online as being a form of “profiting”. Come on, let’s not like act like it’s not skeevy to benefit off a viral post from other ppl’s stolen content 

5) you literally have a public fb page that anyone can view so like… your appalling privacy settings are not my problem. literally your entire facebook page is public?? what’s with that???
