1. if you get the “answer my call” text, NEVER ANSWER THE CALL. 

They are calling you because they want to have the conversation verbally, and be able to lie later about what they said or didn’t say. Force them to continue via text or email- force them to continue the conversation in writing or not at all. 

2. “Lack of 2 weeks notice is unprofessional!” or the other version, “Not providing notice is illegal!”

No it isn’t. Neither is true. 

And in the US, all states except Montana are “at will” employment (though you may hear an employer refer to it as “right to work” to make it sound better, it’s the same thing). Sure, at-will employment means they can fire you without cause, BUT! It also means that you are not legally required to give a reason for quitting, or to give notice of any kind. 

Is it polite to give notice when you can? Sure. Do bosses expect it? Absolutely. But that does not make you legally required to provide it. 

3. The only thing I would change in the worker’s interaction here was their response when initially asked to come in. 

Employee: “Hey Mark. Sorry I’m unable to cover the shift tonight because I’m studying for my exam tomorrow.” 

Don’t give a reason for your lack of availability. It may be tempting to. You may feel rude if you don’t. 

DON’T DO IT.

You do not owe your boss any information about what you do off the clock, and any reason you give will only ever be used against you. 

Boss: “Hey I need you to cover Jasper’s shift tonight.”

Employee: “Sorry, I’m not available.”

And leave it at that. 

Do not elaborate. 

Do not offer additional information. 

When you boss asks you to elaborate, because they will, be polite but firm. “With respect, that’s personal. I’m sorry, but I’m unavailable to cover this shift/work late/come in early/etc.”

Be a broken record- you’re unavailable. That’s the only information they need to know, and it’s the only information they have a LEGAL RIGHT to know.

Calling all TSBS FANS!!!

With TSAMS coming up on being four years old, uploading a video almost every day, with every episode lasting anywhere from ten to thirty minutes, it now has more episodes than one peice, somewhere around 1,400 episodes. That is, using a conservative average of 17 minutes per episode, is 23,800 minutes, or 397 hours, or 16.5 days, or 2.4 straight weeks of video footage.

Given this, it is a little bit insane that there’s no good way for a new viewer to catch up on the story. If a new viewer watched five episodes per day (almost an hour and a half of just watching) then they would catch up to the episode the day they started in 280 days. By that point, there would be 280 more episodes to watch that were posted while they caught up on the old ones. If they continued to watch 5 episodes per day, they would spend 56 more days watching those. Then, they’d similarly have to catch up on those 56 new ones, taking 11 more days. Then, 2 more days for the remaining 11 episodes and finally, one more day before they are fully caught up.

That means, if they started today, they would have to spend 350 days just to watch every episode until they finally caught up on everything, and would have spent 5% of their entire year just watching TSAMS episodes on YouTube.

So, given that, I want to try and summarize every episode from episode one to now, trying to catalog every bit of information in a giant transcript of the entire show. If you’d like to help me out with transcription, you can do so by transcribing an episode of your choice, and posting the transcription along with the name and date of the episode. I will copy the transcript to an obsidian vault (essentially just a better version of google docs with HTML and tags) (with credit of course) and then, once published, it will mean we finally have a good way to look up information about this stupid show without watching hours of video footage.

If you would like to participate in this project, I have an example of the formatting for the transcript down below. The main things to keep in mind is the names being on a separate line to the speech, and that being separate to any motion or sound affects needed. Really, as long as you use punctuation, line breaks, and capital letters, I can fix any formatting issues when uploading to Obsidian. Please tag me if you post a transcript or at least use the tag #TSBS transcript project. Currently, the only episode that has been taken is the very first one, by me.
