the new chaos walking poster makes me SO SAD because the fact these filmmakers didn’t cast actors the right age for todd and viola (AND YES ITS OBVIOUS THEY AREN’T THE RIGHT AGE) tells me before i’ve even seen this movie that they don’t appreciate or respect the knife of never letting go’s meaning AT ALL. chaos walking is such a unique piece of scifi about coming of age and autonomy and how men are taught toxic masculinity from a very young age and how it can corrupt them!! those themes substantially lose their potency when you’ve cast two people in their fucking 20s. no hate to tom and daisy, i love them as actors and amnot mad at them at all, just mad at the decision to cast them. the heart of todd and viola as characters is that they are not adults!! thats the whole point!! that they are essentially children entering into the limbo of growing out of childhood, and its horrendous, but also what gives them agency as opposed to the other adults in the story!! i can’t stress enough how this dynamic is completely lost, and how detrimental that is for the story’s themes, if they are aged by the actors playing them. i know there are stans of tom and daisy who feel otherwise, but thats your business. this story is so good it deserved to be told more truthfully to how it was written, not to be treated as a press event for tom holland and daisy ridley.
