비익연리 (比翼連理); bee-ik-yun-li : a phrase from a poem written by Bai Juyi during the Tang Dynasty about the love between Yang Guifei and the Emperor Xuanzong. A bee-ik-jo (비익조; 比翼鳥) is a mythical bird that is half female, half male. Each part has one wing and one eye, therefore unable to fly without the other. A yun-li-ji (연리지; 連理枝) refers to when two trees with separate roots grow together and become enterwined to the point of being indistinguishable from the other. Therefore, this term is used to describe fated lovers, but usually in a tragic, wistful way. Source: (1)

“Don’t fight hate with hate” is an example of subtle gaslighting, where our legitimate hurt & anger at the injustices we suffer is being equated to the bigotry & abuse of our oppressors.
Being angry doesn’t mean you are being hateful, it means you love yourself enough to get upset at your own mistreatment.

Reminder that Stonewall wasn’t about marriage equality. Stonewall was about police brutality. It was about systemic abuse and subordination. Stonewall was spearheaded by black trans women. As we celebrate Pride 2020, within the context of the Black Lives Matter riots, it’s imperative that we remember that.
Riots in protest of police brutality are the reason that we have more rights today. Do not forget your roots.
You can’t celebrate Pride while simultaneously condemning the Black Lives Matter riots and protests that are happening right now. Know your history.
“A protest which is licensed and approved by the police! It is both absurd and sad. It is worse than real revolt, because it is only a sham outburst.”
— Franz Kafka, Conversations with Kafka (via kafkamilktea)
