it happens when they’re away from each other, randy’s getting questioned by cops outside about his identity and randy messes his story up, he knows they’re not buying it so he makes a run for it and gets tackled to the ground.

benson forgot his gun in the car and gets cuffed at their booth next to all their half eaten lunch, and when he’s escorted out the doors him and randy make eye contact, both of them being led to different cruisers, probably the last time they’ll ever see each other.

I think benson really deeply wants to be good to and for someone, if it’s someone he finds worthy of receiving that kind of affection…but at the same time, he also doesn’t really know how to be that person or how to properly express that affection. like, i wonder if benson even understands what he means by being “good” to someone, what that entails or how he expects the other person to receive it.

here, i think he obviously means it in a romantic way, but he’s so destroyed and vulnerable and drunk in this moment that he probably only has a loose concept of what that “good” is, he just desperately wants randy to know that its there and that he’s not just using randy as an emotional (and physical) punching bag.
