Hey, been a while. This isn't a return, but I can't really talk about the new Final Destination on my main blog, so.
Spoilers ahead abt a plotline I think is stupid. I did like the movie though, go see the movie, it was really fun. I just like to complain.
Hey, so. Why didn't they just go "I guess Erik is his dad's legitimate child." Bc it doesn't make sense for Death to accidentally set up a Rube Goldberg machine for him in the tattoo parlor and go "Oh, fuuuck... Not related." Like, is Death not a force of nature that can be thwarted, but never stopped? Why wouldn't Death know that from the beginning? He knows where everyone is at all times and when they're supposed to die, but he doesn't know their heritage?
Also. We could just say Erik got skipped in his original death, which put him at the end of the list. And the list is the branch, not the entire family. (Which makes sense, bc Iris had to die for everyone else to start dying.)
And you can consider Erik getting the peanut butter out of the RV or the vending machine not collapsing on Bobby as Bobby being skipped. So it went back to Erik. Or... Just give Bobby the rest of Erik's life, if you want to do the illegitimacy plotline. Ya can't have both, ya know?
Why did they make death into a mercurial creature funsies? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of discovering rules for death? If death can break the rules, then there's no point to the rules.

Also, the log truck at the end was lame. Like. After they went to Iris's cabin, it was just like. "Okay, we get it: you guys really, really, really liked 2." Also, that much to kill just two people? Most of the deaths at the end of these movies are big tragedies that the psychic can't avoid this time (see: 3, The, and 5). They could've had the train kill more than two people: just for two is lame.
Or add ten more minutes to the run time, take us to the prom, set up some Carrie shit. Kid spikes punch, drops their flask, alcohol down the bleachers, stage equipment catches fire, doors are locked: and we've got a burning ring of fire, baby. Bring it back.
But pretty sure that train hit multiple houses and so people definitely got hit
Remember fd3 Wendy and her sis and the dude had the train crash, there were people there too, and the incoming train probably wasn't empty either so more people definitely died
Yeah the train was maybe much but that's FD for ya I adored it, I'd say multiple people died just bc it showed those two doesn't mean no one else died
The train wasn't a commuter train, it was a freight. So there weren't passengers. And, while houses were destroyed, there was only... Two people on screen, so. It came off as like. A suburb where no one has moved in yet, as opposed to a massive tragedy, ya know?
In Wendy's train premonition you actually see the people it's going to affect, other than just the main cast, so it doesn't feel as empty.
But even if they did go with the train, I still wish it was less... Reverent. Like, it's super obvious the people who made it loved FD2; there's no problem with that, ofc. But we didn't need the logs to return, c'mon now. Ya know? The train alone would've been fine. Very wink-wink-nudge-nudge.
I mean, the train was dragging across the street, and their dad was very close to the two my best bet is he was hit
Also remember in fd5 the blonde gf was supposed to survive Sam's premonition, she ends up dying in the end bc of the plane with him

Also there was the buss passing and then the being hit by a gas thing like how the mechanic died in fd4, the spike that Iris died in the premonition was like from fd4 too
Also Stef and her bro were basically in an explosion like how Nick in fd4 was in
But I think with deaths in particular... There's only so many ways/positions a person can die in that are interesting on screen. So if it's just "this is kind of similar" I personally wouldn't count it. (For example, people are counting Erik's death to the balance beam death in 5, bc he's bent in half. But it's actually not that similar, aside from "they're both bent backwards," ya know?)
And I don't consider Flight 180 death to be pulling the gf in 5 in as some kind of revenge, bc... Then what about everyone else on the plane? It wouldn't really make sense, to me personally, to assume the death was meant for anyone aside from the MC of 5. And everyone else was collateral damage.
And, either way... My main issue is the references.
Like the Clear Rivers joke was fine, mentioning Kimberly was fine (esp bc it gives a way for the series to continue without Bloodworth), all these little bits here and there were fine. And I probably wouldn't have minded the logs so much... If the characters had some emotional investment in the logging incident. There's a fine line for me between, like. A well-done reference and "We're horror fans, just like you! You liked Final Destination 2, right? Logging incident reference: bazinga!" Too much of a good thing, ya know?
Hell, I would've been fine with it if Charlie was killed with a log, but Stefani got pulled under the train, even. But I think most people can agree the pacing of the deaths was way too fast after the first half anyways. It's kind of a letdown to see them all run together like Erik & Bobby's deaths and Darlene & Stefani's & Charlie's intended deaths and then Stefani & Charlie's death. It felt rushed.
I'd say I want more and that's cuz I did. More run time, more emotional investment given to the characters, more variation. Especially bc... I liked these characters. And I wish the deaths were more character motivated. Even in TheFD (which we all know was just there for fun deaths, lbr) most of the deaths were related to character flaws (most, not all). At the least, we'd get something about... Where they worked, what their hobbies were, why they would be in a specific place at a specific time. And I'd say up until Bobby's death, we did get that.
I think the first half was great. And then it petered out for the rest of the movie. Ofc, I understand they were on a time limit with Tony Todd's health and couldn't do reshoots/rewrites around that scene due to it. Which probably made production and editing a consistent plotline and mood difficult. And the studio probably wanted a log death, because it's the most iconic premonition in the series. And that it's hard to balance plot and spectacle in this series.
But. Ya know. You can still like and understand something's circumstances and see flaws in it. 乁| ･ 〰 ･ |ㄏ

I’ve kinda already said it before but I wish every other clairvoyant in the FD franchise was as sweaty and deranged as Alex. No one can out act Devon Sawa’s character for me like he mastered the distressed sweaty dog boy character (who probably has rabies) while also making him likable. Everyone else either cried or just went 🧍🏻 “okay anyways” like I want them to frantically pull out their death chart with crazed eyes and beads of sweat on their forehead or like my favorite moment when he calls death “YOU FUCK” after locking himself in a cabin like I wish they were all that insane
