The Doors is one of my favorite bands. Poetical, introspective, and a little playful too. Their music has this mystical, dark quality that sucks me in. I feel like Iβm floating, transported into another place, somewhere otherwordly.
Jim Morrisonβs voice? Chefβs kiss. Deep and soft one moment, then powerful and animalistic the next. And sexy as fuckβ ngl, LOL.
He was enigmatic. Charismatic. Owning a presence that pulled people in and held them captive. A true icon of 60s counter-cultureβhe challenged societal norms and riled up crowds, provoking them, stirring chaos and rebellion. His hedonistic lifestyle was part of this personaβindulging in drugs, drinking and sexual pleasure. He was a true native of the psychedelic eraβwhen musicians experimenting with hallucinogenic substances entered altered states and created music with trippy soundscapes.
Yet Jim had a hunger for meaning. His lyrics pondered on existential questions, reality, death and enlightenment. Immortalised as one of the most iconic frontmen in rock history, Jimβs persona, vocals, lyricism and dramatic death cemented his legacy.
I also love Ray Manzarek on the keyboard, i feel like itβs such a key (hehe) part of The Doorsβ songs. really adds to that mysterious, haunting vibe. πΉ
One of my favorite lyrics is from the song The Crystal Ship:
βBefore you slip into unconsciousness
Iβd like to have another kiss
Another flashing chance at bliss
Another kiss, another kiss
The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
Weβll meet again, weβll meet againβ πΆππ
