these words originated from hebrew, and in hebrew -im and -ot are our plural endings. so if you say, like, nephilim in order to refer to a single nephil, it’s like you’re saying “look, a dogs!” it just doesn’t match up and you look really silly

You’re not stupid! I had to check, so don’t worry. I think they’re a D&D monster mostly, otherwise known as an Illithid, and they’re tentacled and spooky, with a penchant for brains… They have a bit of a gross sounding life-cycle, but click the link and find out some more on the wiki page. Perhaps some other people will be able to add to it, and I’m sure the other mods might want to edit this when they wake up too (it’s a bit early for them over in the States I think…)
