Flanagan could write his own show with this exact premise and it'd be fine, no need to attach 'Carrie' to it at all. But he will because it'll pull in fans who think it'll be actually the story they love or actually don't care because they only saw the film like once and kinda remember that they liked it.

And I know people are going to scream that it's creator liberties and his own vision and if this were fanfiction I'd let it drop.

But this is going to be filed under the same category of canon as the book and film like it doesn't critically ignore several aspects.

Margaret is religiously and otherwise abusive for a reason and her motivations are what they are for a reason. This shapes who Carrie is as a person and in turn shapes her school life and her usage/understanding of her gift.

When you change that you change the structure of the whole story!

Carrie is a phenomena, not unique in the extended King world, but unique in her town for a reason and this critical difference which cannot be understood is both literal and a metaphor. It's like this for a reason. Having other kids with gifts cheapens it because then why make it about Carrie at all? This isn't Misfits or Sky High or the X-Men. But apparently we're also changing the most iconic scene, probably to make sure nobody dies and the plot can continue after it.

And why add the tech thing at all? Afraid to dive deeply into the relationships between teens themselves and how complex they can get?
