Sometimes I think we do have to give characters leeway because of the genre they're in. Like, in a children's show where kids somehow get away with going on dangerous adventures, we're not meant to understand that the parents are neglectful, it's just that the kid's have to be in the action for the sake of its target demographic. Or like yeah, in real life, your friends being super pushy about you getting with someone would be annoying, but in a romance the plot is about getting two characters together and often to complicate it the leads are given reasons to be hesitant about pursuing a romance, so they need external forces to push them in that direction. We can apply suspension of disbelief to character's actions.

For me a big part of “sex work is work” is that sex work should be socially viewed as totally legitimate work. I should be able to put sex work on my resume. I should be able to lean on the skills and knowledge I gain in this field and have that experience be respected. Right now I have a gap in my resume. But I’m also consistently doing advertising, social media management, inventory, merchandising, customer service, upselling!!! I’m working self directed, I’m solely responsible for every aspect of my business. I deserve respect, fuck.
