i'd be the older sister your baby sisters always wanted

i'd travel to your family home just to treat them every weekend

they'd come to me for girls stuff

i'd teach them how to do makeups

i'd be their ally when you scold them for having a boyfriend

though i'd told them they're too good for those boys

i'd hold them dear when they cry about boys

though i wouldnt be as knowledgeable as i am,

nor can i empathize with them

because in that life, you're not confused

and you're willing to fight for me

i'd bicker with your little brother like we're twins

i'd choose your brother's side over yours

and your sisters' over his

he'd ask me about girl stuff

and i'd say to him

like you are in this life

always come out of the blue to confuse a girl that puts you on a pedestal

who always defends you in front of her friends that hate you

who loves you and understands you like no one ever did

your grandma likes me

i'd be her new favorite grandchild

i'd buy her a present on her 80th birthday

she'd be reminded of her youth

because

she could see that her love with grandpa lives through ours

despite everything, she'd realize that love really does conquer all

that their wish is not a strict non-negotiable

if crossing them can lead to a love that's blooming like camellias in winter

our child will thrive

she'd have the best of us

her eyes would have streaks of hazel and amber

thick, black hair that turns white once she's 14

my empathy and your kindness

hopefully not my bad posture and your scoliosis

we'd skip the early-toddler hospital visit and cans of oxygen, thanks to you
