Opening duolingo to take my mind off the raging wildfires in my area and the app is chock full of fire imagery đ
if we hosted a prog rock world cup england would win something for once in their goddamn lives
hi, john robins 2018 comedy special The Darkness of Robins just made me cry my eyes out over the most acute sense of grief Iâve experienced in years. and also itâs one of the funniest and best paced comedy specials of that decade.
In another timeline, Roger Waters would've stayed designing bank vaults and would've been known as the crazy guy⢠who passes the time by talking to himself in silly voices as he works, making snide comments about wealthier users of his designs whenever he thinks his boss is out of earshot.

Putting the fan on full blast and cocooning myself in my blanket
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:
ActionAid India
SEEDS India
GlobalGiving
Raise India (Project Tapan)
The headlines when you look up each Pink Floyd member:
David: âTrust me, I donât care okayâŚâ Pink Floyd guitarist on bitter relationship with his ex (bassist).
Nick: 321 cars!!! Time for some more car fun with Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason :)
Roger: Roger Waters sends BOMB to DAVE GILMOURâS HOUSE!!!!!! He then DEFENDS himself, saying âI JUST REALLY WANTED TO!!!â
Rick: Richard Wright - a very talented musician who DIED. He is gone FOREVER and EVER. Oh and one more thing heâs DEAD.
âWithout alcohol, I have absolutely no idea who I am.â
âŚ
Hot tears aside, Iâm not quite sure what John means by that? I get that every memory or interest he could consider structural to his personality has been tainted by alcohol in some way, but surely alcohol isnât the reason he liked these things in the first place? Surely sobriety hasnât removed his love for his favourite music, writers, foods, games etc, or his relationship with his best friends ?
And I also get that booze was a way for him to run away from the way he felt deep inside, but even back when he was drinking, he was still very much aware of and pursued by those difficult feelings, which was one of the main things driving the habit. Iâm pretty sure that even then, he could tell, albeit faintly, what the part of himself he was trying to suppress - so in some way, who he is âat the coreâ - looked like. Imo: a very anxious, hyper observant little boy in dire need of affection from his father đ
between the song and the murders I feel like I was really misled about how hardcore of a ride a helter skelter is

In case anyone finds it helpful because mobility aids are horrifically expensive and inaccessibleâŚ
And for those people who have access to mobility devices but might benefit from a second chair they can abuse without risking expensive damageâŚ
Erik Kondo has made a website, Open Source Innovations, that details plans for DIY wheelchairs. These wheelchairs can be made from common materials like wood, plastic, and pvc. They are lightweight and can be custom fit to the user allowing from the same degree of movement you would get from a custom chair. And they are durable and easily repairable. (he has been stress testing his latest design by dropping it down stairs, dropping it out of a car, launching it across a driveway, and throwing it off a deck). Its 12lbs and I think he said its was in the $200 ish range for parts.
He also is working on cheap, open source, accessible designs for beach chairs, off road chairs, motorized attachments (think smart drive), and so on. Plus he skateboards in his wheelchair. Cool dude, helpful info, pass it on.
It's incredibly sad people have to resort to this, but it's a damn good resource. Use it. Spread awareness. Maybe one day people with physical disabilities won't need DIYs like this. But until then, reblog and share.
This is Accessibility!
That's so amazing! It is unfortunate that so many people will need this, but very very cool that it exists
That other link seems to be broken.
And Your Bird Can Sing - The Thesis
Tell me that you got everything you want and your bird can sing, but you donât get me
Caught up in thinking about this song that we have conflicting reports and opinions on what itâs actually about and ready to present my thoughts.
TLDR: And Your Bird Can Sing is about a cycle of torment (or cycle of abuse, but I prefer to be careful with usage of that word for various obvious reasons).
Disclaimer: It is not my intention for my take to be seen as the ultimate reading, you can agree or disagree and I will be happy to discuss!
WARNING: THIS IS GONNA BE LONG!
INSPIRATION
First person to claim they served as an inspiration for this piece is Marianne Faithful in her relationship to Mick Jagger (sorry Marianne, the song canât be inspired by you, you and Mick werenât even together when it was written - AYBCS was recorded in April 1966 and written probably earlier, Marianne and Mick got together in November 1966. That does not mean that she cannot identify with something in it though).
Then we have Cynthia who said itâs about a golden bird cage that she says she gifted to John and while this seems a bit absurd as Cynthia does not appear to match the person addressed in the song, I wouldnât be quick to disregard her as a partial inspiration for this song. I will talk about it later when applying a plausible autobiographical reading.
Thereâs also a theory that itâs actually inspired by an interview with Frank Sinatra and his criticism of The Beatles. We know that there was some sort of a rivalry going on between him and the band, a representation of a generational clash between the old world and the new. I actually like this interpretation and as Paul once said, âmost of our songs start as a newspaper articleâ. I do think that this news piece probably inspired some lines and in a way, it is also about that - you can actually view the lyrics that way - remember that a song can be about multiple things at once. But I donât think this is the ultimate reading.
More under the cut.
Your header / banner image is goated as hell.
Thank you so much!! I'm really proud of it actually, despite my shitty photoshopping skills, and it's nice to see it get some recognition
I think the solo discographies of the Pink Floyd members are severely neglected.
Syd's stuff is more of the same excellent whimsical psychedelia that made The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and the early singles so special.
Roger's albums are as thematically focused as you would expect from the mastermind behind The Wall, telling awesome stories and making interesting societal commentaryâ all set to banging music of course
David's solo work tends to have bluesy overtones, and immersive sonic soundscapes, obviously all highly elevated by his unparalleled guitar work.
Rick's records are so atmospheric and paint fluid musical landscapes with the colour of a Floyd album (Identity by Zee is more of a typical 80s synthpop project, but it does succeed very well at what it sets out to do and is pretty fun to throw on occasionally)
Nick's stuff is just crazy in the best way possible. Carla Bley's compositions on Fictitious Sports are off the wall jazzy fun, and most songs on Profiles go way harder than they have any right to.
This is a call to action. If you haven't taken the time, PLEASE listen to the Floyd solo works.
Baby Reindeer has a vague Robinsy vibe to it. I find Donnyâs relationship with Martha quite addiction-coded, and that scene where he breaks down on stage and confesses everything is the same plot twist that Darkness of Robins was in Johnny JRâs career
