Halbarry Secret Santa for my giftee @candy-san1 !!! The prompt I received was medieval world halbarry, which is one of my favourite AUs of them, ever, so imagine my delight receiving it!! I hope this is to your liking <3

Coast City may have fallen centuries ago, his citizens and ecosystem choked and poisoned by nuclear fallout and pollution, and his buildings nothing more than slowly crumbling monuments to a failed civilization, but the sunrise is still beautiful.

Absent-mindedly, Hal brushes a hand through Barry’s hair, slightly annoyed that he can’t feel anything more than the faintest sense of scraping pressure from the motion. He remembers Barry’s hair being soft on his skin, but Hal’s skin and flesh have long worn away to bare bone.

Barry doesn’t stir even slightly- but then again, he’s been sleeping since the bombs fell, and both their cities died. 

Hal has no idea why Central City’s destruction simply put Barry to sleep uninjured and undecaying- if all of his citizens were dead, he’d have started decaying, if some had survived, he’d be awake but severely ill. 

And Hal knows all too well what happens to a city spirit whose city is completely destroyed- he’s only clinging to life because Coast City didn’t suffer a direct hit.

(Bludhaven wasn’t so lucky, and even then, Hal has no idea how many major cities still have living spirits- Hal only knows Dick is dead because he saw him die.)

There’s a sudden gust of wind, rattling through Hal’s limbs and ribcage and causing the ragged strips of his clothes to flutter in the breeze for a few seconds.

And Barry’s eyes blink open, a ragged cough escaping his lips.
