I hate how I coloured the characters but I am sleep deprived as hell and had to get this ready before tomorrow morning cuz I gotta get busy w my day stuff and the time would end before I'd get home probably. there are 12 year olds making masterpieces and i know i shouldn't compare but that's hard when everyone else who does the things i want to do is simply and undeniably better at it - always have been, always will be

Many artist including me also have these thoughts as well when opening Pinterest or something and seeing how someone's art can be so georgeous and then looking at our own art and seeing how it could pale in comparison which sucks! Because why can't my brain just appriciate that I also created something cool just as much as they did?? :(

Before I get into it- reblogs are greatly appreciated!! I would love to hear people's thoughts and I am open to criticism - i may take it hard but that is my problem, i would rather know what i've done wrong. I'm not the best at wording things so I promise any offense is unintentional. Just be respectful.

For those who don't know:

"Previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder, DID is characterized by the presence of two or more distinct identity states, often known as alters or headmates, with impaired recall between identities." ~Pluralpedia

DID is a trauma-based disorder - from what I've read and been told, it is caused by "repeated and inescapable trauma," which fits Pacifica's situation pretty well. She goes from putting up a front to pushing down the parts she doesn't like to those parts becoming separate identities. At its core, DID is a dissociative disorder and having alters is not all there is to it. Amnesia is a big thing, and it can be scary to have full blackout amnesia, which often happens with DID.

DID presents differently in children than adults - so it really would only start to become clearer as she starts becoming a teenager. Above, they'd be like 15

She tends to "put on that persona" at work a lot, from the constant ringing of the bell whenever someone enters the diner, to the feeling of pressure of being around people. this "part" of her is very similar to what we see from Paz in season 1.

the brain is so interesting! different alters can have different preferences in food, music, and clothing style - so while Pacifica yesterday wanted a llama sweater with a turtleneck, Pacifica today is confused on why she would ask for that. Amnesia strikes again

Pacifica is pretty stubborn, so she'd be very insistent about things she does and doesn't remember - and it kinda causes problems with someone like Dipper who takes a more confrontational approach, as with above.

I think one of her alters (all of which i am slowly developing into their own characters, in a way) eventually has enough of the Northwests and runs away to the Mystery Shack, sometime in spring when the Mystery Twins aren't around. It's a pretty big and overwhelming experience, so Pacifica is kinda dazed when she finally comes to- asking Soos where the twins are even though it's like April.

After this, she gets therapy, where the possibility of DID is brought up after a significant number of sessions. i don't know how getting diagnosed with DID works so use your imagination for this part. or look it up

Mabel is a really big help to Pacifica through all of this, doing plenty of research and maybe discovering some things about herself on the way <3

I'm not sure if I'll stick with that headcanon - mostly because creating one fictional system is hard enough /hj - but i'm just kinda throwing it in there to say that i am pretty syscourse neutral and lean to the side of pro endo, because it is a more positive place. You can still interact if you disagree, but mabel being endo isn't the point of the post so i'd rather hear your thoughts on Pacifica <3

All that being said, while I know quite a bit about plurality, i do not have DID myself. Take everything shared in this headcanon with a grain of salt and do your own research.

I love seeing how people interpret different disorders and how fic characters would deal with it, espicially since I find studying this stuff cool (bcs yes the brain IS interesting and I DO need to nerd out!)

Imo, I think Pacifica wouldn't struggle as much with the amnesia part, like she'll figure out ways to deal with it better than the other things in DID (like having different preferences--she has no control over that)

Dipper in this situation seems like he just wouldn't like understand her and then it could make it harder for Pacifica because if he doesn't get her than who would (which is why she didn't ask for help because of her own thoughts)

Pacifica wouldn't like the fact that she's plural and having to explain it to people honestly, she'd just hide it and deal with it inside her head. T-T

Additionally, with the things she forgot, those are things she wouldn't think she'd have to remember- like, one little thing she said, or "of course I'll remember the twins are coming to work." I think she dissociates HARD during work so that might affect it as well.

Dipper finds it frustrating, yeah, like before the speculation/diagnosis, sometimes she seems like her character development has gone backwards, or she's trying to gaslight him into thinking things did or didn't happen. He thinks it's intentional - it's not. And as I said, he's confrontational.

Pacifica definitely does not like having this (few do) and is honestly really embarrassed about it. Not only because of how some of the other alters act (particularly the Little one who is quite repressed thanks to that). One time Mabel makes bracelets corresponding to each alter (she saw the idea online) and gives them to her - but Pacifica hates them, cause she really hates the disorder and she hates her system and she hates her brain. At least one other alter ends up liking and using their bracelet tho. Again, different opinions and tastes
