Okay. For my money, the entire thesis of Chris Nolanâs 2026 film The Odyssey is that society chokes and sputters and dies when we abuse, ignore, or violate social norms like the laws of hospitality. That is not really what The Odyssey (the book/poem) is about, but I can clearly see why in the horror that is the 2020s, someone could read The Odyssey and go oh my god thatâs a lot of bad dropping in. Thatâs a lot of bad visits. Thatâs a clear vision of how the loss of social norms and cohesion fucks you up and how war, literal, brutal war, is a terrible wound that destroys your humanity and your understanding of what civilization and society is. I donât know that the iteration of Greek society that ultimately birthed the poem would agree with Nolanâs take, but I think this movie is quite ideologically coherent, that Nolan knew exactly what he was trying to say with each and every adaptational change, and I think he wasnât nuts for using one of the most famous classical western civilization works as a way to make that argument.

you wanted the ground to swallow you whole in embarrassment. cassie was leaning on the counter of the nurse station, her chin resting on her palm and staring at you.
cassie was waiting.
"i-it's not what you think, dr. mckay," you tried. your knees felt like they got no bones in it.
"i think you wanted to ask me a question."
you tried to hide your nervous laugh behind sipping your iced coffee. you could feel yourself sweating all over.
"come on, y/n." she encouraged. "i won't bite."
you tried to meet her eyes once again and you knew you could trust her. cassie may be playful and a tease sometimes but she would never intentionally shame you.
so you took a deep breath and asked, "okay, uh, d-do you like girls... uhm, women... same sex... you know what i mean...?"
cassie smiled. you thought she might be planning your demise by just flashing those dimples at you. "i have always liked women."
"oh." color came back to your face. too much red, cassie thought. she found it cute. "that's - that's nice."
"only nice?"
"uhm... happy pride?"
"it's july."
you frowned. "right."
cassie chuckled at the shy look on your face. "do you wanna get dinner later?"
your head comically tilted fast. "with me?"
"well, i am asking you."
"just... us?"
cassie nodded. "if you want to. it's fine if you don't -"
"i want to!" you quickly interrupted, hoping she wouldn't change her mind. "i want to eat you. WITH YOU! oh fuck, i mean get dinner!"
cassie let out an amused laugh. "okay then." she reached out to fix the collar of your jacket and you almost choked on the feeling of her touching you through the fabric. "see you later."
you stammered a reply but you couldn't remember any thought after the fact that you're going on a dinner later with your stupidly insane crush.
talking to bsf!trinitysantos about your crush on your older coworker cassie mckay. while youâre talking to trin about how bad you want cassie, cassie comes up behind you. trin notices but purposefully doesnât say anything, just tries to hide a smile. when you notice you turn around and are MORTIFIED that cassieâs been listening in
-đ
"i just wish she wasn't so unattainable, you know." you sulked, sipping on your iced coffee.
trinity only hummed as she continued charting. this wasn't something she had not heard before from you. in fact, she heard it a lot of times she memorized all the things you always say about cassie mckay.
cassie is so pretty, cassie is so kind, she's the best doctor, her heart is so big and pure, i would totally let her check me out -
you let out a loud sigh. "i wish she would just give me something. a sign! just even a little bit of a sign that she's into girls, ugh."
trinity, with senses of a cat, immediately saw cassie approaching, walking usually like it's heavy, but didn't say a word.
"i can't just ask her, 'dr. mckay, are you into women? are you bi? lesbian? girl kisser?'" you rambled on.
then you heard someone clearing their throat behind you.
you stopped shaking your iced coffee. then turned around.
color left your face.
cassie was smiling, dimples disarming you even further. "you can ask me now."
you've never been this mortified standing in front of this woman before. when will the ground eat you?!
"don't faint, lover girl." trinity said, smirking to herself as she left.
look I know robby's 7 week fling thing is to show his deterioration etc, but lets put that aside for now and wonder if maybe he's just not dating the right people.
for example maybe he should try dating the two men he looks at like this. just a thought. give it a try, michael.

Noah confirming S3 set on Nov 12, 2026, i.e. the day after Veteran's Day, i.e. Robby's first day back is Jack coming off the shift that he started on Veteran's Day do they realize the rabbot angst implications of this because im barking like a mad dog
huge fan of how isolated they kept robby in s2 because like. he doesn't have anyone. he didn't have anyone in s1, he doesn't have anyone in s2. not truly, not really. it's not the literally no one is there type of loneliness. it's the fact that you're surrounded by people, and you're still deeply alone.
even the people that help him or confront him or reach out to him the most, he barely has. dana, who is first and foremost a coworker before a best friend, who had no idea about robby's abandonment. jack, who's admittedly closer, but I assume is included in "no one knows", + is avoidant, often working, and hasn't faced most of his own shit. not truly reliable.
I mean, that scene where robby is grinning and refusing eye contact and not reassuring jack he'll be okay... and jack doesn't even follow him. just leaves. and later, when dana is practically begging jack to at least say something. do something. but jack is also closed off, so it took that push. he didn't even truly initiate the reaching out.
even duke's connection to robby gets overinflated, and I think it suits the narrative much better to view it as it is: duke and robby are not particularly close. it's implied it's a recent friendship, mainly over motorcycles, which is a recent development in robby's life. and robby, over and over, has to practically plead with duke to stay, have the CT for him, and is generally difficult.
robby is grasping to this friendship because it's likely one of the only ones he has, possibly the only one. and eventually, yes, duke softens at the desperation and comforts him, but it's still just... they're clearly not very close. robby is desperate for connection and unwilling to let it go, he's crying out for help, whoever will help.
him and noelle clearly aren't that close, including the fact that she gossips about something personal to him to dana without a second thought. it's not even a want for robby, the comfort of a warm body in his bed, it's a need. he knows he can't be alone. he can't handle it. but he doesn't wanna get close enough to anyone to be abandoned, so he always leaves first.
yana kovalenko, who is one of the people who cut through to him emotionally the most, is a patient. cassie, who also checked in on him and made an effort, is his resident. the vast majority of people that are considered his "support system" are his responsibilities as well, or at the very least his coworkers first, which heavily clashes.
that's why he latches on so heavy to duke, why duke gets through to him easily, even though he's... honestly pretty surface level, and I assume knows very little about robby's inner self, just as everyone else. all he really knows, from that day, is wow this hospital is draining. but that was enough for robby. because robby is desperately lonely and duke is not a responsibility or a coworker. and duke is older, and robby is subconsciously always searching for a figure like that. someone to guide him. a mother, a father, a mentor. anyone.
anyways I just feel like most of robby's relationships, (even heather in s1 and sometimes especially her,) get wildly overinflated. and it does a disservice to his character. one of the core parts of his character that explains many of his motivations are how completely lonely he is.
this is dead on, including how overly weighted the brief reach outs Robby gets are. you have to also remember that Noah said in an interview: Robby has no friends, no family, not even a pet outside of the connections he has at PTMC. He is completely isolated and alone.
this is the reality for a lot of people with complex lifelong trauma. Robby's traumas started, at the very latest, at age 8, with the destruction of his family unit and sense of safety. It continued, at the very least, with not only Abramson's death, but the PTSD by a thousand cuts he describes from his decades at the Pitt. this is a man who has endless internal wounds, whose ability to trust the love and affection of others was broken in elementary school, who has been shown by the world over and over that you cannot rely on anyone but yourself. who feels he has to literally devote his life to fixing people to earn his place in the world, who tells Duke that his life is intolerable to him unless he is working, actively in service to others.
what other lessons could a child learn, from their mother casting them aside, except that there is something fundamentally lacking in them, that they have to earn their place on earth, that even if they do that they must do it alone and shielded, because if their mother couldn't even stand to stay with them, then who could ever love them enough to ever stay? who wouldn't consciously or unconsciously protect against that by never building a life outside of work, where at least you know you can earn your place, where there are rules and tasks that will let you call that place home, as meagre a home as it may be, so long as you do them well enough?

Warnings: pregnancy trope and lots of fluff
Brendon Park x reader (med school!au/college!au)
word count: 1.2k
part 1 part 2
Are you ready?â Brendon takes your hand, helping you out the car. You werenât really showing yet, maybe the tiniest bump only visible to you and Brendon, so you didnât put effort into covering it up yet-especially not in this heat.Â
You were visiting Brendonâs family since it was summer break, and more importantly since you had to break the news of the pregnancyÂ
âAs ready as Iâll ever beâ you snort and shake your headÂ
 âI promise theyâll be happyâÂ
âMhmâŠâ you hum and follow him up to the front door. He doesnât bother with knocking, striding straight in and calling outÂ
âMom? Dad?â He glances around briefly until he hears themÂ
âBrendon, baby, câmere! Weâre in the kitchen!â His momâs voice echoes back and Brendon grins, dragging you with him through to the spacious kitchen âoh, hello, you two. Oh! You are absolutely glowingâ she says to you âsummer is really your season, I canât believe weâve never seen you in summerâ you instantly smile shyly, cheeks burning slightlyÂ
âOh, thankyou Mrs. ParkâŠâ
âNonsense, nonsenseâ she ushers you away from Brendon and beside her as she sets up a fruit platter âJane to you, darling. Iâll leave the Mrs park title to youâ she winks and you flounder slightlyÂ
âOh-um-thank you JaneâŠâ she laughs beside you, picking up the fruit platter and you follow her automatically as she carries it to the outdoor tableÂ
âI hope brendon has been pulling his weightâ she raises an eyebrowÂ
âOh, of courseâ you nod instantly âheâs quite particular anyways soâŠwell the both of us are honestlyâ you laugh weakly and she grinsÂ
âWell, you tell me if he starts acting up. He may be my son but heâs an adult nowâŠtell me dear, youâre a law student, how much time would I do for that?âÂ
You look at her in confusion for a moment âfor what?âÂ
âForâŠwell, you knowâ she raises her eyebrows
You canât help the loud laugh that escape you âdepends who presses charges with what evidence.âÂ
âHmâŠso no evidence, then, seems simple enoughâ she muses and you laugh againÂ
âWell thank you for the thought Jane, but Iâd really rather you didnât attack Brendon. Heâs absolutely perfectâÂ
âGood. I did tryâ you both laugh. You return to he table, helping her carry some plates of food through and setting it all out on the table whilst Brendonâs dad makes everyoneâs drinks. Brendon is busy outside with his siblings, herding them over. Eventually you all settle down at the large table. Youâre sat beside Brendon across from his three siblings, with his mum and dad at opposite ends of the table. Brendon is the eldest of 4 with an 18-year-old brother (James), 16-year-old sister (Ella), and 13 year-old brother (Oliver). Brendon made sure your plate was piled up before serving his own, even as you insisted you couldnât eat all of it, but he simply grinned as he added more. You heard Oliver call your name and you look upÂ
âBrendon told me youâre a lawyerâ he grins
âA law student right now, but one day Iâll be a lawyerâÂ
âCan you be my lawyer?â
âWell I hope youâll never need one, but sure. Keep me on quick dialâ you laugh softly, as do the others, although Oliver just stares at you blankly.Â
Everyone digs in, with a little bit of quiet chatter, but mostly eating and praising Jane for her cooking. You catch Brendonâs gaze in the corner of your eye and he mouthsÂ
âAfter lunch?â You simply nod, feeling the nerves bubble up again, trying to wash them down with your water. Brendonâs dad had given you a bit of a suspicious look when you turned down his offers of various beverages you usually enjoyed in favour of water, which youâd simply excused from feeling a little car sick.Â
Finally, the plates are cleared and table wiped down, everyone settling into pleasant conversation with Brendonâs little siblings talking about schoolâŠ.well, that is until Brendon interruptedÂ
âWould you mind if we had a moment?â Youâve never seen him so nervous âwe have some newsâ
Everyone looks up curiously, his parents clearly apprehensiveÂ
âOf course sweet heart, whatâs wrong? Weâre here for youâ Jane says sweetly and Brendonâs dad nods. You take a deep, shaky breath, looking over at Brendon who smiles reassuringly and squeezes your hand under the tableÂ
âIâm pregnantâ you blurt out. If the table wasnât silent before it certainly was now as everyoneâs gapes, Oliver coughing on his cokeÂ
âPregnant?â Jake repeatsÂ
âAre you for real?â Ellaâs eyes are lighting up as both you and Brendon nodÂ
â10 weeks nowâ Brendon smiles-he really canât help it, he hasnât been able to wipe the shit eating grin off his face since he saw those scansÂ
âOh my godâŠâ Jane whispers, tears in her eyes and you chew on your lip nervously waiting for her reaction âIâm going to have a grand baby?!â She squeaks and you canât help the watery laugh that escapes you âoh! Adam weâre going to have a grand baby!â She grins. Your attention turns to Adam who looksâŠrather paleÂ
âMr. Park are you okay?â You ask quietlyÂ
âAdamâ he chokes out âIâd really rather you call me Adam right nowâ you quickly nodÂ
âSorry, of course Adam. UmâŠare you okay though?â
You can practically hear his gulpÂ
âYepâŠYep great. Iâm going to be a grandad. God I feel oldâ you and Brendon both sigh in reliefÂ
âHow could we be mad? Youâre both adults, and as long as youâre happy Iâm happy, and you clearly love each other, and oh! This is going to be the most adorable baby, no wonder youâre glowing!â she gushes and rushes round the table to you, wrapping you up in a bear hug before pinching your cheeks.Â
âOh-thank you Janeâ you smile shyly âI really appreciate your support. We both doâ Brendon nods, still holding your hand although not so tightlyÂ
Brendonâs siblings are all chattering excitedly and clamoring to get their question answeredÂ
âCan you name it after me?â Oliver grins and you laugh a littleÂ
âWeâll have to see about that one Ollie, especially if itâs a girlâ he narrows his eyes at you, making Brendon snort.Â
After a few more minutes of excited chatter and remnants of shock you all retire to the living room, stretching out on the couch beside Brendon. Ellaâs head is between your legs as you braid her hair and Oliver is curled up with his head in your lap, half asleep, Jake sat on the other side of Brendon as they talk about the football. Adam and Jane watch fondly at the future image of your family, reassured that youâll both be fantastic parents, with no doubt that the child will be raised perfectly.Â
âI was expecting the whole young pregnancy a few years agoâ Adam chuckles quietly and Jane huffs, elbowing him in the ribsÂ
âAdam! You know I couldnât have survived thatâ
âI know. But look at us now. And theyâre both so beautifulâÂ
âTell me about itâ she leans her head on his shoulder as Brendon looks up at them with a (still slightly nervous) smile. They both smile back reassuringly and he turns back to you, your head on his shoulder with the braid done and Ellaâs head against your knee, pressing a kiss to your forehead.Â
âTheyâre just like usâ Jane whispersÂ
âI hope soâ he nods. They link their left hands, wedding rings pressing together. Brendon laces his fingers with yours, thumb caressing over the soft skin of your ring finger.Â
I hope everybody enjoys this! Again, pretty please if thereâs any aspects/times in their relationship you want to see let me know!
âHmâŠso no evidence, then, seems simple enoughâ she muses and you laugh againÂ

Without fail, every time a woman is talking about how she does not want to have children and never wants to be pregnant and how medical professionals, romantic interests and family members keep trying to bulldoze her decision and keep expecting her to change her mind because motherhood is something that is expected of all women and it is abhorrent to think a woman could not desire it, a random mother spawns in the comments to be like âWell, actually, you never know! I didnât want children and then I got pregnant and I realized I love being a mama and I have five little babies now! Could happen to you! đ„°â
Sister, keep that to yourself or make your own goddamn post, you are ignoring that womanâs central concern and belittling her, you donât even think youâre doing it. Formerly childfree women who ended up having children and loving it are like detransitioners in the sense that there is nothing inherently wrong with changing your mind about having children or realizing you were mistaken about your gender identity but immediately weaponizing your indecision to tell people that the barriers to healthcare and the violations of their bodily autonomy and the way society ignores that personâs wishes is actually okay because you were wrong. Some people do know themselves.
Robby who was beginning to heal from ptsd from katrina when covid hit and now he feels like hes not even at square one, somewhere much further back, and honestly, it kinda feels like whats the point in trying to get better when something will always happen to fuck you over again

A stupid bit: a british patient comes into the pitt. Trinity and dennis are assigned to them. The patient asks if they can go outside bc theyre âgasping for a fag.â
They both have a moment of âwhat did you just call me?â And âomg gay hookup?â Before realising they mean cigarette.
"i HATE robby because hes a disgusting misogynist who yells at women!! he's evil and i dont EVER want to see him again!!"
oh okay, sure, so you keep up this energy for all the characters, right? because you're saying this is about feminism and morality, right? so you've made all these same posts about frank langdon, right?
you know, frank langdon who was racist to princess and then again about native american culture, and who screamed at trinity and tried to start a smear campaign against her on her first day? frank who regularly disregards how hard his wife works? you've made all the same posts about him because you care about addressing misogyny and racism, right?
oh... you haven't? you've not even made *one*? you've not reblogged a single thing about him either? not one?
so it was never about addressing misogyny, was it? it was you smearing a character you don't like and looking for reasons to justify your hate rather than actually caring. okay, I get it, thanks for helping me clear that up.
it was never about misogyny in the slightest- in fact it seems like you don't care about misogyny at all unless it's robby. pretty shallow morals there, no? hmm.
