"maybe it's not your pussy" is such a funny phrase and also correct. People wonder why chores are so hard and it's like, friends we used to have a whole intergenerational team on this and now Grandma is locked in a beige box. Cooking is hard.
Reblog the problem is capitalism and not your pussy
[Image ID: A screenshot of a Facebook post from Weisenback Farm. The post is a photo of two 5 gallon jugs of distilled white vinegar; one is 4% acidity, one is 5% acidity. The caption reads: Just a little warning for all those who are canning pickles or anything using vinegar. This year you cannot just grab a plastic jar of vinegar or even pickling vinegar without checking the label. Safe pickling requires 5% acidity... for the first time we are seeing 4% acidity vinegar... on the shelves. That renders anything pickled in the 4% NOT shelf stable. I belong to several canning FB pages where everyone is warning... for the first time ever... to check those labels or you could be throwing out many jars of unsafe pickled vegetables. End ID]
The National Center for Home Food Preservation issued this letter on July 14, 2023 warning people
They recommend that anything you have canned in the past 24 hours using 4% vinegar be stored in the fridge, and anything that was canned more than 24 hours ago using 4% vinegar be discarded.
Now thats a bunch of bullshit on the corporate end
For those unaware, the risk associated with insufficient acidity is the potential development of BOTULINUM TOXIN in your preserved goods. Yeah, the stuff that caused BOTULISM and is one of the most toxic substances known to science. Scary stuff. You don't want it in your food.
And yes, there are known cases of people dying from eating improperly-prepared preserved foods. Lots of them. So please be safe and check the acidity of your vinegar!
donât let anyone else ruin your day. itâs YOUR day. ruin it yourself.

While the CDC has given up on providing any guidance on risk control measures for covid, The People's CDC is filling the gap and continuing to track and update guidance as the situation evolves. Here's where you can download their Safer In-person Gatherings Toolkit:
Guidelines for keeping each other safer while gathering in-person during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. As the holidays quickly approach, co
Here's an extremely detailed guide on what to do if you have covid that includes how long to isolate for, how to set up your house with hepa filters and ventilation, what supplies to have on hand, when to go to the hospital, and guidelines on how to pace from the MEAction Network in the event you end up with long covid:
A guide for preparing for illness, preventing spread to others, managing symptoms, and recovery.
The work these guys are doing is amazing. They're still tracking wastewater data too so you can still figure out transmission levels in your area and not just the hospitalization levels. Check them out!
hey did you know that the wellington airport in new zealand used to have a gigantic statue of gollum catching a fish and itâs one of the scariest things iâve ever seen? if i saw this thing while i was delirious from a 14 hour flight with no sleep i would die on the spot
Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in âblind auditionsâ with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.
so I believe it was actually more complicated than that, in interesting ways. Because at first, when they did blind auditions, they were STILL hiring more men.
âŚThen they put down a carpet, so that high heels didnât clack on the floor, and BOOM women were suddenly getting hired.
The testers didnât even know thatâs what they were picking up on, which just goes to show how tiny of a cue it takes for misogyny to kick in.
The case of blind auditions for orchestras and how it dramatically changed the gender makeup of orchestras is a very illuminating example of gender bias, and an interesting possible way of countering it.
You can be sexist without knowing it. You can be racist without knowing it. This is not a moral failing; it is a moral imperative to remember that you are fallible, and take steps to limit the damage your squishy ape brainâs foibles can cause.
The final chapter in Malcolm Gladwellâs Blink (2005) describes this in detail.
What you donât usually hear about when discussing this blind audition process is that after the blind auditions were implemented, when women had gotten many positions in the orchestra, men no longer saw being a member as prestigious and the salaries for the entire orchestra dropped.
No but it really can be this simple sometimes.
The "enrichment in the enclosure" meme has a lot of truth to it. We need to shake things up a bit to keep happy. It doesn't have to be big, but if you ever feel stagnant or a little bluh try going on a walk on a route you haven't been in or something. It really does help.
#literaly agreed #it sounds like a frigging joke #but the reason our childhood feels like time was slower #is because we did so much new stuff #once you get used to things everything speeds up #so changing routine #doing something new #literally feels like extending your life #you got this #I believe in you
reblogging with @arczeroesââ tags because they blew my mind a little and I think you should read them
the fact that emily gwen lives in poverty while i can walk into target and buy unauthorized reproductions of their work is fucking disgusting frankly. corporations deserve to be hanged en masse but until we can do that for the love of g-d PLEASE keep queer money in the queer community. buy directly from queer artisans like emily, make your own pride merch if you have to, but we need to stop giving our money to rainbow capitalists who are literally, openly stealing from us already. i love target's pride section but i would rather spend $75 on a handmade flag someone actually sat and sewed out of real strips of coloured fabric so they could pay rent than $5 on a strip of screen-printed polyester that nobody got compensated for making at all.
ko-fi.com/emilygwen to support if you can!
also, here's emily gwen's stores if you want to buy from any of them, they have a variety of products <3

im grilling absolute cheese
hey if youâre in the U.S. and use food stamps or know somebody who does i found this online cookbook that has recipes for eating well on approximately $4/day :o)Â
I donât have food stamps but I need to know how to eat well for $4/day. Thank you for this.
I love this cookbook!
Tips and tricks on how to survive being working class.
Iâve seen this kind of thing before and a lot of them are full of random weird shit youâd never makeâŚbecause of time constraints or like, it just sounds super gross.
But this one had a whole section thatâs just âThings on Toastâ. Another that was all about putting crap in your oatmeal to make it better. Those are fairly pedestrian and donât take forever.
I havenât looked through the whole thing yet but so far itâs actually pretty practical. Also if youâre broke like me and donât know how to make Dal, you should get on that.Â
I also liked that thereâs this at the beginning:
This book isnât challenging you to live on so little; itâs a resource in case thatâs your reality. In May 2014, there were 46 million Americans on food stamps. Untold millions moreâin particular, retirees and studentsâlive under similar constraints.
Been there. Done that. Advice on this art is always welcome.
The link above seems to be broken; hereâs one that still works.
The Good And Cheap cookbook is 100% free as a PDF download from the authorâs website and is available in English and Spanish. It is practical, tasty, easy, and kind. Physical copies are one of my top âso you have your own place nowâ gifts. Highly recommend.
(note that the PDF is oriented the same as the physical book - two square pages - so itâs more landscape format and might be difficult to read on a phone)
