listen i know nothing about les mis but i feel like all of the ABC being named “jean” or something is an incredible headcanon, partially because everyone ive known has always gotten along really well with anyone who’s shared their name. also imagine going up to someone and asking “oh hey do you know combeferre and his friends?” and them just responding, “oh yes… the jeans.”

…so, I don’t know if that was an intentional pun, but let it be known that in french ‘Jean’ and ‘gens’ are pronounced the same. Jean is, as we known, a common first name. ‘Gens’ means ‘people.’ So when you say ‘ah oui, les Jeans’ it comes out ‘oh yes, the people’ which is possibly the most Symbolic pun you could make.

OKAY BUT LEGITIMATELY, THIS LINE IS SO HOT. Like our culture has built up this idea that it’s hot just to KNOW – to ASSUME – that the other party wants it as much as you do. It’s childish and cowardly and leads to so many problems with communication in a relationship. And Nora flawlessly, naturally just gives Andrew and Neil this courage to just ASK. Yes or no? Can I kiss you? Do you want me to do this or don’t you? Because if you don’t want it, I will stop and I will be okay. We will be okay. If nothing happens, we’re okay. And that communication, that trust to allow yourself to be rejected is fucking BEAUTIFUL. It’s brave and it’s soothing and it’s so healthy for both these parties. Who are both really damaged mind you but are determined to not damage each other. Andrew doesn’t want to hurt Neil that way because he’s been on the receiving end of it and he wont do that to anyone. Neil doesn’t want to hurt Andrew because he has seen him in that position first hand and he WONT be like that. He WONT be that guy. Their respect for consent is fucking SEXY man. It’s so attractive to see them respect each other and their boundaries. Who the fuck planted this seed that it’s not every bit as hot to be looked in the eye, tantalized with what’s to come, being trusted with prospect of having control of this intimate situation being put in your hands??? Whoever put that idea in our culture’s mind honestly has never understood true intimacy.
