I wrote a master’s thesis on intentionally single people, and the number of them that said in various ways, “I didn’t know not dating people was even an option at first” was absolutely tragic. They honestly thought they had no choice and it never occurred to them that opting out was even a possibility available to them.  

People honestly believe these are life experience you are required to have AND THEY ARE NOT.

(Warning: contains spoilers for the entirety of the series!)

White outdoors co-ord: his most used outfit, thanks to the Tamutuo arc during which showers and changes of clothes were Not a thing, apparently. First appears in a deceptively un-pink version, but fear not! A pink t-shirt soon peeks from under the outer, more-or-less sandproof layer.

Pink sweater with a weird grey chest pocket: a favourite of his, especially paired with white trousers and this light zippered jacket. Ideal for desert outings, dubcon countryside dates courtesy of your situationship, and heartwarming Family Hobbies (identity theft) with one's cousin.

Pink sweater with vertical pink pocket: solid outfit for impromptu screaming matches and/or brooding sessions on your personal opera stage, always paired with a crisp white shirt. Optional rolled-up sleeves for a more casual look.

Pink sweater, but different: a darker shade of pink, perfect when you really want to get a message across (the message being Don't Piss Me Off Or Else).

White sweater: my favourite! Look at him being so soft and squishable in his comfy knitted(?) sweater. He's even taking some deserved time off to rehearse opera moves while wearing it. 10/10 extremely huggable (at your own risk).

Pink hoodie: a casual item for special occasions such as breaking and entering somebody's uncle's house, or making sure your boyfriend pet mercenary doesn't stray too far away from you.

Pink rainjacket: another multi-function clothing item, for day-to-day activities such as hiking in a spider-infested jungle, navigating deadly traps on abrupt cliffs, pondering about sheep, and trolling your maybe-dead boyfriend back to life.

Light jacket: versatile, can be worn over white OR pink t-shirts! Pairs very well with pink tactical trousers when the need for displaying your impressive rock-climbing abilities arises (one never knows when that can happen).

Risqué white shirt: almost indecent given his usual amount of layers (figurative and literal), and worn as is only once in the entire series, when having lunch with Huo Xiuxiu. Otherwise worn under the pink bomber jacket (see below).

Pink bomber jacket: when you try to get intel from a Wu family elder. Doesn't necessarily work, but at least one looks cute in it.

Pastel pink custom suit: a must-wear at the poshest restaurant in your area, especially when your cousin (again) tries his best to bankrupt his entire family, and yours while he's at it. Sometimes you just have to fight a gang leader about it.

Bonus: special outfits!

Full opera garb: what can I say, somebody knows how to make an entrance (thank you, Er-ye).

Bustier dress for Friendly Deception and Shapeshifting Shenanigans: what it says on the tin (who hasn't resorted to this at least once in their life). Worn with discreet and probably exorbitant jewellery, but I had to make editorial choices re: screenshots.

Unflattering diving suit: sorry, Xiao Hua, but even you cannot make this work. In his defense, this is Sanshu's equipment so any subsequent sartorial choices can be blamed on him (among many other things).

He has the *range,* sweetie.

You cannot "well but I'M not referring to that kind of art, I only mean Dirty Pictures" your way out of this. You are being harmful and need to stop, not rationalise why it's okay for YOU to be doing it. You need to understand

fiction is not reality. Fictional characters are not real people.

if someone SAYS a work of fiction inspired them to do bad things, that is not the work of fiction's fault. The person who did bad things is STILL at fault, because they have free will and must be assumed to understand the consequences of their actions.

discomfort is not harm. If a piece of art makes you uncomfortable, that's actually fine. That's the POINT of certain pieces of art. You need to learn to tolerate discomfort.

It is not in fact the government's job to enforce a set of morals on people. That violates people's universal human right to freedom of religion and creed.

so, ways to get around this:

turn off AI results. they're literally nonsense to us

don't use pinterest because the sources/provenance is often hard to trace

a standard internet search can be okay, but museum collections are the top tier (list of collections below this list)

instead of broad terms like victorian, regency, tudor, renaissance etc. try using the decade you're looking for. if you're not sure of what decade it is but have a vague image in your head, look on the fashion history timeline and just jump around until you find it. but even changing to e.g. 19th century will give better results than victorian

including terms like womenswear/menswear, daywear, formal wear, evening wear, court dress should increase the value of your search too

including "fashion plates" in your search can give you a nice impression of the intended silhouettes of the era. some of these might be a little stylised but will show you what was considered in vogue

for pre-fashion plate eras or things like makeup and styling, you'll have to look at portraiture or manuscripts. these are harder to actually find what you're looking for, but searching museum collections and limiting results to specific date ranges will be your friend

when looking at art, do bear in mind sometimes artists would paint fabric extra flow-y to show off their skills. it might not have been exactly like that in terms of fabric weight or drape. so, a pinch of salt required!

if you find something on image search where the provenance is dubious, reverse image search and you might find a source! i've been able to trace random pinterest images to real sources, but this does take a lot of time and effort and is often not worth the headache

some online resources and museum collections:

fashion history timeline is an invaluable resource if you're trying to get a feel for everything and should be your first port of call. it'll also link to good examples

the met has a vast number of extant examples of clothing, as well as fashion plates

costume institute fashion plates is a subcollection of the met for fashion plates (1800s-1922)

v&a also has many extant garments, fashion plates, and incredible articles on clothing and aesthetics. read the details of the objects because they'll often reveal a lot about the piece

lacma is good for C19th-20th pieces

nypl digital collection for photographs

national portrait gallery or similar for portraiture, or literally any museum in your country that has historical art

national museums scotland can be useful situationally but might be oddly specific

stout style history is a great collection for finding image references for fat people wearing historical clothes. survival bias of a lot of museum pieces tends towards smaller clothing that couldn't be repurposed, but this aims to counter that. it's not sortable, but is still a really nice resource

wikimedia commons is surprisingly handy! and the images, if you should need to link/repost them, are public domain

auction websites sound like a funny one to recommend. some won't have mannequins and some will. just look up historical garment auctions and you'll find some!
