you smell something sweet in the air; you don’t know what it is—sure, but you know sweetness exists, and you know the sense of smell,

and you certainly know what sensing a new thing is.

it was never sensing vs knowing. sensing is the act of knowing. knowing isn't solid but it is absolute.
