i know i've made this exact post before it's so amazing that gerard was one of the most prominent people openly acknowledging and supporting their young trans fanbase

and tbh a lot of it was coming from a place of "i've been where you are." like idk how much clearer they could have been with that

it genuinely makes my stomach clench when i think about gerard saying they would have gone to see a therapist that specializes in gender issues if they knew about it when they were younger like oh okay...........

honestly i think it’s fascinating how much people treat gerard like a woman, but strictly in negative ways. really speaks to the sort of glass closet effect of transfemininity TBH. but from the comments on body image (especially weight) to the way they’re repeatedly characterized by fans and not alike as “bossy”/“sassy”/“bitchy”/etc… like it’s misogyny right? like the way people treated(/still do treat, to a lesser extent) them feels more in line with the way female celebrities are viewed as opposed to male. and you could say homophobia is an aspect of it, and i wouldn’t disagree, but i think it’s useful to consider how homophobia functions as an extension of misogyny here. any suggested proximity to girlhood is negative because being a girl is negative. people are highly demanding of all celebrities, especially creatives, but there’s an objective difference in the demands made to women vs men in the field of stardom. & i think the demands made of gerard across their career align most with the demands made of women! it is their job to comfort and appeal and support and arose and entertain and provide and uplift and coddle and etc etc etc like wow, are they a musician or your Bitch Wife? because you’re talking about them like you expect them to do your laundry too.

Incredibly violent take of mine but I actually don’t think you need to relate to a story in any way to enjoy it. You can enjoy a story even if you can’t point at a character and insert some aspect of your personality or identity into them. In fact I would argue the need for a character like that to be present in every single story you experience is a sign of stunted growth.
