DON'T GO CHANGELING

I started this blog around when I started college, almost 4 years ago. And I gotta say it’s been a fun ride, but it’s come to an end. I met a lot of good people on here, a lot of whom I still speak to outside of tumblr.

  “passably hot!?” she sound offended, but she’s still smirking, and there’s a little laugh at the end of it. “damn, and here i thought we were friends. i see how it is, garfield, okay. i would’ve been fine with being just a footnote–after all, that’s all i’m giving you for my possible autobiography, too–but describing me as passably hot instead of SMOLDERING? that’s a new low. truly break my heart, plus you’re outright lying to the people. and i dunno if our relationship can be repaired after this.”

“Thanks, Gar. I’ll be sure to remember what a good friend you are.” Despite the dripping sarcasm, the assurance of making it out of this was at least appreciated. Cracking her neck a bit, she stretched before turning back toward him.

“That makes a lot more sense. I mean the two of us should have easily been able to detect something otherwise. Maybe they isolated us like that for that exact reason..” Now they were getting somewhere. Catching the water bottle, she immediately extinguished the fire, her eyes instantly adjusting to the dark. One of the many benefits of her vampirism, she supposed.

“Done. You ready to head back?”

“We had a hundred people surveyed on this topic a while back, I’m a shoe-in for the BEST FRIEND archetype.” It comes with a scoff, a matter-of-fact tone; now if only he had a pair of glasses to really sell the act. “Should consider yourself lucky, Lee.” 

“Not gonna lie, but can’t helping feeling on edge when I start making sense. Not like I’m dissing the experience I’ve had with nefarious plots or whatever but feel free to butt in with whatever suggestion crosses your mind.” Two heads, and all that...

the hesitance in gar’s voice is just about enough to break rose’s heart. if mr. bright side himself can’t seem to find a positive outcome of this, then how can she do it? optimism has never been her strong suite, not really.

“he beat death itself before, didn’t he?” she tries out a wobbly smile for him, for herself. and she’s trying so damn hard to see good in this, believe that slade won’t just end up hurting joey again… 

“he can get better from this, too, right?” that comes out shaky, her eye clouds with some sort of sadness, and she looks up to gar, almost BEGGING to make her believe everything will be okay in the end.

gar decided at that moment that fake smiles didn’t suit rose. it was always cocky, self-assured smirks that resonated well with her confidence. similar to carefree persona he adopts all too often to dispel the idea that something was bothering him- her attempt is amateur at best.

“Not to mention the fashion disaster of uniforms we all wore back when we first became a team.” he jokes, warm smile spreading on his features. it was jarring how stone cold rose could be one second and... vulnerable the next. sure, it was proof to the well-known fact that everyone had that side to them, he just didn’t expect her to let her barriers down around him of all people. “If he stuck with us then, he’ll come back to us someday, back to you. He just needs time. ”

“I don’t care.” 

            If she’s being perfectly honest about it. Movies are easier for her to digest, what with the visual aspect, but books give her a heightened sense of accomplishment.                            “…How much time do I have?” A diplomatic way of saying ‘Why not both?’

“Nothing to do, huh?” For better or for worse, boredom has her agreeable to the prospect of spending time with him. If he to wager a guess, his green behind being present was probably a welcome change of pace to the routine she led in Gotham. Not like he blamed any other super for not jumping at the idea of spending a weekend in a city where the air frequently reeked of ass.

“Let’s finish this chapter, I’ll do a search to see which movie he was probably referencing when we’re done and that’ll be the one we watch- sound good?”

She almost groans. Almost, being the key word. Instead she shoots him a look, before looking at the paperwork that needed to be done. Not the worst pile she’d ever seen, so Court would forgive him. 

❝   Oh wow, we’re actually going to go at this as a two-man team ?  You know how to treat a lady, that’s for sure. Mmkay, sounds good to me.   ❞

He has to roll his eyes at that, girls from every corner had something to say about him, go figure. “The quicker we get this done, the quicker we can ahh- get whatever artery-clogging snack you prefer. I’m partial to not-really-chinese Chinese food, personally.”

Buuut it’s not about him, it’s about giving Courtney positive reinforcement.

she’s openly cackling now, one arm flailing at her side dramatically and the other holding her stomach. tears could spill out of her eyes–but she’s not feeling that dramatic just yet.

“has anyone told you you have a overly active imagination, garfield? really. you could write a novel with that thing inside your head if you wanted.” pointer and middle finger catch his nose in a pinch that would be more fitting for a little boy than the big ole man he is. “not even in your dreams, sweetheart.”

“Heeeey, watch the schnoz, huh?” it comes off as nasal, obviously, since he doesn’t wait for her to remove her grip on his nose before speaking. he gives it another beat before tapping her wrist with two fingers, following it up by using his hand slap her palm up, up, and away.

She’s internally perplexed, but externally calm, as per usual.

                          “Why would your toe cause you pain?”

        Her tone is carefully, and purposefully neutral in an attempt to shield herself from what very well might be a sort of cultural joke that she’s just not clued in on.

                     (  She’s not really someone who regularly experiences toe stubbing. )

“Look me in the eye and tell me you’ve never stubbed your- Wait.”

When it came to physicality, Cassandra was perfect: reflexes, coordination, rhythm, the works. Her question was more than just not connecting with his particular phrasing, she... just didn’t GET it. Figures that banging your toe on furniture would be would be a life changing event she never experienced. Yeouch.
