This is both hilarious and depressing

seriously, fuck the false dichotomy between Science and The Arts. as if capital-S Science isn’t an art that requires creativity, perseverance, patience, and skilled observation. as if The Arts don’t require rigor, discipline, practice, and attention to detail. as if both aren’t cultural structures that stand on foundations of sexist, racist, capitalist hierarchy. as if they both can’t be used for purposes of enrichment and revolution. i am so fucking over this idea of presenting science and art as opposites, when they have so much more in common than people think.

- a tv renovation crew can solve all your storage problems. they do this by moving all your stuff out of the house and putting a glass sculpture full of fake yellow daisies on one new decorative shelving unit. - every house needs to have that one area rug with the white fretwork pattern on either blue or orange. sometimes you can get away with another color but the pattern is a vital part of a spell that mesmerizes potential buyers and homeowners alike into ignoring the fact that the reno team only fixed the downstairs of the house. you can buy this rug at target. - people will pay a lot of money for doors and tables made out of scrap stolen off someone else’s demolition project or out of a factory dumpster if you call it ‘reclaimed wood.’ - every member of the extended family is definitely going to come for a sleepover visit at the same time, and couches and air mattresses don’t exist. i don’t see a bedroom here for aunt maude. i can’t compromise on this. - if there isn’t enough money in the budget for all the reno projects, throw your kids under the bus. they don’t need separate bedrooms or a hangout space. you need your new ‘spa bathroom’ with those double vanities and separate shower and tub. it is your oasis. - ‘this house has character’ means it’s weird and ugly and probably includes at least one fire hazard. - if you can see a neighbor’s house, your yard isn’t big enough. you hoped for a big yard to raise your children in. but you also want to live in the city, close to the shops and restaurants. - every house has either rats, termites, black mold, water damage, or asbestos in the walls. this is going to break the budget to fix. no exceptions. - fireplaces. fireplaces everywhere. fireplaces ‘bring the room together.’ - there are people in this world who think a 20 minute commute to work is too much. - everyone in the family has to be able to fit into the kitchen at once. my butt touched my wife’s butt as i walked past her to the fridge because she must stand at the island chopping vegetables and my mouth can’t form the words ‘excuse me.’ unforgivable. i cannot cook in this house. - people want ‘chef’s kitchens.’ these look pretty much like normal kitchens except new? - WE MUST BE ABLE TO ENTERTAIN GUESTS.
