Spider-Man’s Webshooters Mean Something
Everyone knows the classic story of Spider-Man, regular smart cocky guy Peter Parker was bit by a radioactive spider and through the loss of his Uncle Ben decided to become Spider-Man.
But what if I told you the symbology was there the whole time right under our noses, hiding behind the classic quote, “With great power comes great responsibility”.
The Webshooters. Think about it, that spider bite gave him strength (the standard set of superhuman abilities), the ability to stick to walls, and a sense of danger. But other animals have those abilities too like lizards, ants, bees, or even scorpions. But the webs? Those were all Peter, he chose to be a Spider, he chose not to be a lizard or an ant, or anything else.
The Webshooters represent the choice to become Spider-Man, him taking the responsibility of being a Spider. And sure the in universe reason he did it was because he was bitten by a radioactive spider, but if it just gives him the webs, then it kind of takes away the responsibility. It forces him into being a Spider, it puts responsibility on his plate.
So if he doesn’t have organic webs then he decided to take responsibility rather than have it given to him. It isn’t like the Captain America’s shield or Mjolnir, the webs are a choice that Peter makes, and at the end of the day, Spider-Man is about the choice to be a hero.
(Yes the suit can function similarly in symbology, but as I said earlier, if he was given the webs through the spider bite then he has less of a choice in being Spider-Man)
Thought of more for this:
In Into the Spider-Verse, Peter B. gives Miles one Webshooter when robbing Fisk. Symbolizing how he is sharing the responsibility of solving the multiverse shenanigans with Miles. But later in the movie when the other Spider-People take away the Webshooter and are taking away the responsibility.
But once again, Miles wants the responsibility, he wants to be Spider-Man, so he picks up the Webshooters.

If you have a passing interest in why Scott Summers was married to a clone Jean Grey or what the original Dark Phoenix storyline was like.
Check out my video on the Dark Phoenix Saga by Chris Claremont!
Something I find very interesting in superhero media is what I’ll call “passive” and “active” superpowers.
A passive superpower is something the character doesn’t have to activate. Think your bulletproof superheroes or every speed force ability that makes sure Barry or Wally aren’t torn to shreds when they run. Another example is Spider-Sense, Peter doesn’t have to think to activate the ability, it just happens.
An active superpower is something the character does have to activate. The most common ability of this type is flight, sure the character can fly, but they have to activate their flying in some way. Another ability, though I don’t consider it a power, is Spider-Man’s webs, he has to actively consider geometry every time he swings.
I feel these powers could be interesting if they swapped types. Imagine a character who could fly and was bulletproof, but they had to focus on being bulletproof and often wouldn’t notice they’re flying. Or Spider-Man can webswing as easily as he breaths, but if he focuses hard enough he could predict danger to himself.

Oh my lord I actually finished a ref sheet I said I would
Name is Masaki Wilson/Leviathan, feel free to leave questions below
Hi, so I’m writing a Sci-Fi Superhero book about a character who gets their powers from Horus and I have a couple of questions.
Also I should probably explain the brief summary, it’s about humanity abandoning subjective reality (art, religion, magic, etc) in favor of objective reality (science). If you think there’s a better Egyptian deity for this type of story please let me know below.
1. What powers should they grant the main character?
2. What is their personality like?
3. Would they communicate psychically or physically?
Practicing my anatomy, might use this for a reference sheet and another project later, pls let me know any tips to improve
