So I am aware that this redesign contains a lot of differences for this character compared to his canon counterpart, but I'm just gonna be honest here...

I HATE JUDE'S CHARACTER DESIGN😭💔

I know he's supposed to obviously be the stern father character, but he has no resemblance to his daughter whatsoever. For starters, Jude just looks so old even in flashbacks in comparison to even his wife Layla.

The reason this doesn't make a lot of sense to me is because Jude simply isn't that much older than Layla.

Layla Heartfilia in the original canon story was 29 when she died in the X777 when Lucy was just 10 years old. Jude at the start of the story was 38, and the story takes place in year X784. Why on Earth is this important? Because seven years ago, Jude would only be 31 years old, two years older than his wife. He looks at least 20 years older than her😭.

And as I have mentioned in my past redesign with Layla, I prefer if children in media have a mixture of their parents features. I understand the reasoning behind Lucy looking more like Layla, and I feel like I conveyed that even in the redesign, but given that characters like Aquarius have mentioned how different personality wise she is from Layla, I thought it would be interesting if Lucy despite their strained relationship still had traits from her father.

I elected to have Lucy have the same hair color as him, and her features are overall slightly sharper in comparison to Layla's because of Jude. I drew Jude at around the time period Layla was pregnant with Lucy. In my version Lucy is two years older, so 9 years have passed since Layla's death instead of 7.

Ages for Jude and Layla in case the text is too small:

Jude: 24 when Layla was pregnant [43 currently]

Layla: 23 when pregnant with Lucy [33 when she passed]

Side note, in my rewrite I planned for Lucy and Jude to actually have a better resolution to their relationship, and more of an arc. I also wanted Layla to haunt the narrative more. Layla seems like such an important character and yet we sadly know so little of her. I also mourn how Jude and Lucy despite the past never were able to really mend things before they passed.

[And before people say he was just a shitty dad, Fairy Tail has redeemed far worse characters, and I always believed Jude was never truly evil just grieved and unable to properly understand his daughter, that can be fixed😞💔!]

Side note: As of writing this literal blog post why does his younger appearance look like Félix from Miraculous Ladybug omg this is frying me😭💔.

I really loved working on this design, and I'm continuing my journey with Jellal. He's going to take much longer not gonna lie but here's a snippet so far.

I'm doing both Jellal's true identity and a redesign of his appearance as Siegrain, so this is a lot of stuff to get through but bear with me!

I've decided to include a couple sticky art fanart of some of the Fairy Tail redesigns I've made alongside the Marvel art I've made so far.

So, I've just been making more and more and more sticky notes. This is getting out of hand lol. On a side note, I now starting my Jellal redesign for my digital art, so I'm not done with digital art ofc!

I have a clear preference for Mary Jane and Peter Parker it seems. This is getting unhealthy, I just want them to be together and happy again.

So, I secretly really appreciate Luvia as a ship. That's the name right? I hope so😭. It mostly came from their interactions in the first few arcs especially with these two having the first unison raid in the series. I think they have so much potential. I ship the main ships more, but this has a little corner of my heart.

I tried a very different method of shading this time. I haven't tried this method since I was using ibis paint on my phone back in 2020 which funny enough, I drew this exact picture for Amino a millenia ago actually😭. It looks terrible, but it will be down below to show the improvement.

This took me so long because I've been a bit burnt out with digital art, but I HAD to at least get this one out. Hope everyone likes this!

I am slowly trying to improve my art. Recently, I have been getting into doing a lot more traditional art. I have gotten so used to doing digital media that this is a great learning experience again. I used to do a lot more traditional media, but I found digital art to just be a bit more convenient for me.

However, after reading some older comics with my best friend, I decided to just start doodling these in my free time at work. I miss how laid back traditional art could be. I didn't have to have a big plan or an elaborate sketch. I could just draw what I wanted and hope it turned out for the best. I missed the pure free wistfulness of it.

I was no longer super overloaded by all the tools in a paint program nor was I focused on the blinding white background of my tablet. For the first time in ages, I could just sit and sketch and be comfortable. I realized I wasn't drawing for a specific audience really anymore or with a specific goal. Aside from close friends and family, I was mostly drawing for me. I love all of these drawings both the good and bad.

Well not Spiderman[technically]...Peter and Mary Jane😭. One of my closest friends is a pretty big fan of Peter Parker/Spiderman, and I was on break at work, so I made even more sticky notes. I will soon need more.

I think I shaded Mary Jane's hair too dark, I fixed this in the later sketch of these two together. I also took a lot of inspo from John Romita Sr.'s artwork of Peter Parker. I loved the sharper features and spider bangs.

I personally still love Mary Jane, Mj, and Peter together. I know some writers [FUCK YOU ZEB WELLS], try to really mess up their relationship, and hurt Mary Jane's characterization, but when people get it right, they have a truly beautiful and mature relationship where they both grow together and ground each other. I love em.

Yo this is a REALLY short post😭. I just HAD to redraw Han tho because I think I did him so dirty in my last sketch. Han is NOT chopped. I ended up taking some reference photos from Harrison Ford and what Han looked like in Legends to give myself a rough base on what an older him would look like.

Also I have like ZERO clue how old Han is, I always thought he was around 10-12 years older than Leia, but apparently he's even older than THAT, so I totally got his age wrong. I was just doodling at work, don't kill me please....

Second, I think I nailed my sketch of what I would redesign Ben as. Honestly, I think it's pretty uninspired to make Ben another evil Skywalker/Solo, and I would have much preferred Rey to take that mantle. We just don't see enough leading female villainesses imo. I based his design off of Jacen and Anakin Solo from Legends, Anakin Skywalker [grandpappy], and of course, his own parents.

[Side note, why is his name Ben? That would make sense if he was Luke's son like in Legends, but shouldn't his name be something like Lando or maybe Bail?, people who were close with Leia or Han? Idk, js a thought ig.]

Lastly, a really bad sketch of a redesign concept for Rey, since I'm intending for her to be at least a villain at first who's hiding her true intentions, I like the idea that tries hard to look cute, but sometimes comes off uncanny. Like think of hares in comparison to rabbits or river otters to sea otters. [Both these animals are still cute to btw, they're js definitely a little scary in comparison].

Alright, I hope everyone likes this little slop post before I lock in for the future! Like I've said earlier, I have no ill will towards any of the actresses or actors in the Star Wars Sequels, all of that goes to J.J Abrams, and Disney executives. So much could've been done with the Sequels. Either taken from Lucas or Legends, or something totally new and fresh for the franchise that could've given so much more lore and world building. But oh well, I'm a day and a dollar short, so now I'm just yapping about this on the internet.

So, I've been a bit offline lately. I'm still continuing my art no problem! I've just been at work, and I've just had problems with fully rendering art. I love to still sketch, but I'm getting burnt out with making fully done artwork. I don't know why this happens to me sometimes, I'm sorry. However, I am embarking on a huge project recently.

I HATE the sequels😭💔. I know I'm not exactly in the minority for this, but man, I rewatched them recently because my friend is watching ALL of the Star Wars movies, and man they're all just full of bad writing and unused potential. It makes me so sad. [BTW this is no hate towards the actors or actresses they truly did their best with what they had]. I have so many ideas of what could've been done and how the franchise could've been more respectful towards both the new characters and the og ones we know and love.

I decided I'm just gonna redesign and write some drabbles about it, and post it to my Tumblr in the upcoming weeks. I might even actually post this stuff on YouTube if anyone is interested idk. I'm just super passionate about all this, and I needed a slight break from just straight Fairy Tail content.

Side note: I can't STAND Kylo Ren, everyone hates on Ren, but he is so much more of a bum from a writing standpoint to me, Adam Driver is hot tho so I guess this is an equivalent exchange.

So uh, I haven't posted in a hot minute 💀. I need to get back to work! I haven't been under a slump or anything, I've just been out on a fantastic family cruise, and I got a bit distracted 😭.

While I did a lot of new things [like karaoke in front of a crowd], when I did find occasional glimpses of solitude, I just ended up reading really good star wars time travel fanfics because there is NO end of ROTS!

Getting Padme's face right is always so weirdly difficult for me compared to Anakin. I don't know why, I just think Natalie Portman has such a beautiful face, and I find it very difficult to reference without messing it up too much. Anyways, I'm a huge fan of those modern au fics where Padme is a beautiful, career-driven lady who's just rushing her life, and then Anakin comes crashing in to keep on her toes. Also him being absolutely in love with her first is a MUST!

Well I hope this doesn't look too much of a mess, and I do plan on making more fully rendered pieces soon, and actually doing some writing once I get accustomed back to my job and back in my native state. Hope everyone like this piece and take care!

LONG POST AHEAD:

This is actually supposed to be a design for Juvia in an arc for the fanfic I've been yapping about in most of my posts. I feel like for such a popular character, Juvia really doesn't have too much known about her background compared to some of her companions. I wanted to rectify that, so I had a full arc planned on her past, and her working through that. I wanted to integrate her into Team Natsu in the fic since that would give her more time with everyone and elevate her to that more mc status, but I wanted the transition to feel natural. I noticed that in Fairy Tail there's a bit of a formula for Team Natsu characters.

Especially in the early arcs, every member of Team Natsu would get a bit of their own backstory and arc introduced, and this arc would always have them resolve an issue from their past and bring the team closer together by the end. Power of friendship, fighting, all that good stuff.

Examples:

Erza-Tower of Heaven

Gray-Galuna Island

Wendy-Cait [or cat?] Shelter

Lucy-Phantom Lord [Key of the Starry Sky Arc, although I think this is anime only]

Natsu- Tbh this one is more confusing but I guess, Tartaros would be a good answer.

Point is, there is always a backstory arc for a member of Team Natsu that brings everyone closer as a team and as friends. If I wanted to put Juvia in Team Natsu, I needed to make sure it didn't feel too forced or uncomfortable. I decided to create a backstory arc that brings in Team Natsu and Gajeel and Levy, and by the end Juvia would be closer to everyone in Team Natsu, and become a part of the team.

The arc's main themes will be about memory as well as present relationships over past guilt. Frowndown is gonna be the name of Juvia's birthplace/town. I even mapped it out [I'm doing way too much ngl]. I actually looked up Frowndown because that sounded almost like an arc in One Piece, but I was both surprised and happy that it wasn't. Anyway, I am placing the arc a little after the Battle of Fairy Tail arc and before Cait Shelter arc.

Juvia's backstory timeline goes a bit like this:

Time in Frowndown- Birth until 8 years old

Orphanage time- 8-12 yrs old [she meets and befriends Gajeel at 10 years old, this would be not too long after Gajeel was sent to the present]

Time as a Phantom Mage Wizard- 12-19

Fairy Tail- 19-Present

Hope this all makes sense, and I'm sorry for such a longer post. I'll probably make a more concrete design for her appearance in the future.

May the 4th be with you guys! I drew a snippet of Padme during the funeral scene. This is lowkey for an art project. I always loved how she looked in this scene even if it does make me incredibly sad. If only Anakin had stayed in that damn temple!

So for this design, I obviously went a bit simpler this time. This is primarily because Levy is not as main of a character as the others I have redesigned and honestly, I was already pretty happy with her original design. I apologize if it's not detailed enough, I've been super busy with finals. After this upcoming week, I will finally obtain freedom.

I liked the idea of Levy both being super cute while having a very slight edge to her. I imagine she explores this more as Gajeel perhaps rubs off on her a little. I don't know if I conveyed her frame properly, but I always found it funny that Levy canonically is pretty flat-chested but has a great ass, so I tried to draw that. I hope I succeeded 😭. I ended up making her hair in the unfiltered art a lot more saturated and blue-green leaning, and I made her eyes much more yellow in color. Besides liking the color scheme, I wanted her hair to be very different from my Juvia redesign and I wanted her eyes to read as more of a golden yellow than the golden brown I used for Lucy's eyes.

In my writing concepts for the fanfic, I plan on including a lot more scenes for Levy to get to show off her intelligence. I really loved her scenes in the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, and I always wished we got to see more of Levy's very high academic intelligence especially since a lot of people headcanon her as a nerd anyway. I always felt a little sad all of that bookish knowledge just ended up going to Lucy as the series goes on, they both definitely could have shared that role. I also didn't want Levy to look too shy. She's fairly popular and even had three guys pining for her at one point, she's definitely got to have a little confidence y'know? She's definitely an underrated baddie for sure!

So, I decided the next person I wanted to redesign would be Levy. I like Levy a lot, and honestly since she's not quite as major of a character like Jellal or Wendy [my other two choices for the next redesign], I decided to go with her instead.

I wanted to make Levy still have that cute, bookish vibe she had in the original, but I just added slight stylish differences. Originally, I thought about giving Levy a very office-siren adjacent design, but I ended up deciding against it. I instead wanted her outfit to read as cute with the slightest bit of edginess. Like a bunny bearing its teeth y'know?

I ended up changing her hair a bit because honestly, her originally style was just hell for me to draw. It was probably the bangs or something. I instead gave her the ponytail style she had during the Battle of Fairy Tail arc, and her hair without the hairband look. I also thought she would look cute with freckles.

I'm obviously not done, but this is all I got for now. I'll come back with more soon. Like I said earlier, Levy's design will be a little less detailed to give me a break before doing a really huge redesign like Wendy or Jellal. This especially concerns Jellal with his 50,000 identities [I know there's only like 3].
