“See, look what happens when I change it back to normal.”

2015年から描きためていた個人作品をまとめた小さな作品集『Work Out Work』を再販いたします。第3版となる今作は、少しばかり内容も更新しておりますので、ぜひお手にとって楽しんでいただけると幸いです。

I’m going to resell a small artbook “Work Out Work” that summarizes personal works that we have been drawing since 2015. This is the third edition, so I have updated the content a little, so I hope you enjoy it.

"This place is a message... and part of a system of messages ...pay attention to it!

Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.

This place is not a place of honor ... no highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here.

What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

The danger is in a particular location... it increases towards a center... the center of danger is here... of a particular size and shape, and below us.

The danger is still present, in your time, as it was in ours.

The danger is to the body, and it can kill.

The form of the danger is an emanation of energy.

The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place physically. This place is best shunned and left uninhabited."

Hold on to your butts.  The Diamonds each have some kind of Empathy Power, if you will. Blue can project her feelings onto other gems and force them to feel what she feels

White Diamond can literally take a gem over and make them her, as she put it;

We haven’t seen Yellow’s yet, as her power seems purely physical; a static shock powerful enough to poof a gem–which is fitting as she isn’t the type to show much emotion anyway;

But Pink Diamond definitly had one, as we see Steven use it here to get Yellow and Blue to stop fighting and listen to him:

They instantly recognized Pink’s gem and come around enough to hear Steven out. It’s almost like Pink’s power soothed all their worries, calmed them down and thus, made them more agreeable. So, its safe to say Pink Diamnd’s Enpathy Power is to reach out to others and soothe them. That explains why the Diamonds just want to adore him like the old days, Pink brought them inner peace, and she pasased on that power to her son.

It can be a flashy, dramatic power like Blue or Yellow’s, where you actually see a beam of light or a color change, but normally, its a passive power that comes through mostly when Steven is just… around people he cares about. It especially comes out when he sings for his friends–just like when Pink sang songs underwater for her Diamonds.

But here’s the thing fam; every time we’ve seen Steven use the passive side of this power, he’s focused, he knows who he is, what he’s doing, and why he’s doing it. He knows his path, and he’s following it. 

What if he didn’t? What if he suddenly goes through an identity crisis, and uses the passive side of this power? We got our answer tonight;

THE TOXICITY FROM HIS IDENTITY CRISIS & SELF-HATRED IS POISONING HIS EMPATHY POWER!!

Instead of soothing and bringing inner peace, now it brings the opposite; emotional and psychological turmoil! The double edge to Steven’s empathy power seems to be that if he uses it while in a bad head space, he can stuff his toxic thoughts and emotions into another living being and mess them up; Cactus Steven was getting progressively worse even before Pink Steven angrily made his appearance!

This is horrifying, as Steven was just… venting!! That’s what I mean by a passive power, he wasn’t even trying! Just like when he sings, he brings peace without making an effort, when he’s toxic he can cause so much hurt without making an effort. But, it’s ony when he does glow pink that we really understand what’s going on; 

Cactus Steven is corrupted. And we’ve seen this power before.

Do you see what’s happening?

It was a Hate Beam. The Diamonds, so full of toxic hate and rage were they in the face of losing their precious Pink Diamond, they literally lazer focused all those feelings down at all the defected gems on Earth, corrupting them–and now, unbeknownst to him, Steven is unlocking that power. But Steven’s not the kind of person to release such toxicity onto his surroundings, and he’s already started to bottle all those toxic feelings up. What if instead of releasing them in a healthy way, he starts turning them inward and takes them out on himself?

Oh you two.

short answer: nah.

there’s more to the defective label than height. amethyst is weaker and less durable than jasper, and that’s played as a natural strength. it’s not just from military training that jasper’s harder to poof - physically, her form just is stronger. more suited for her job.

that’s not what was being implied here. not to me, at least. 

“let me do it!”

it’s cute to imagine the diamonds sheltering pink because she’s different, but it’s no accident that this is paralleled to connie and her mother… and, on a more subtle level, the relationship between steven and the other crystal gems. 

gems are born fully grown, but it’s easy to see when they’re socially young and inexperienced. that’s the case here: pink diamond is totally oblivious to what it really means to colonize a planet. 

during the first half of the scene, stevonnie is mostly themselves. the transformation into pink diamond is slow and subtle, but the ‘theme’ of both halves is the same: they have no idea what all of this means. invading the surface? no idea. organic life? not a clue. commanding a dropship? it sounds cool, but it’s clear from just pressing the screen randomly that pink has never done this before.

“i want my own army! i want my own planet! i deserve it! i’m just as important as you are!”

just like steven was oblivious to the role of a crystal gem, but still wanted it. because the gems didn’t think he was “ready”. the relationship here is the same: pink acts immature, and therefore, yellow doesn’t think pink is ready. 

as @radioactivesupersonic​ pointed out to me: pink yelling “i’m just as important as you are!” seems like a parallel to an important point steven made in season one. who, too, was sheltered from the more dangerous aspects of the job. who became frustrated and eager to prove himself.

“i’m a crystal gem, too!”

that’s basically what pink is saying here. it’s not just because of the job itself that he wants it: it’s to be like them. with them. it took a lot of work before the gems slowly, eventually, accepted that steven was ready to be included and didn’t need sheltering - and that took a lot of growing on steven’s part, too.

pink diamond? has not grown as a person yet, when we meet her. the parallel to stevonnie is apt: they’re like a teenager. 

“when you have your own colony, you can command whatever you want” 

before pink interrupts yellow with more impatient yelling, remember this: yellow diamond said when. at some point in the future, she’s expecting pink to do her job, just like any of them. this is about being mature enough for it, which pink seemingly isn’t. 

and judging by pink’s temper tantrum, naiveté and eagerness to be like the others… she’s just about had enough. like steven, she’s ready to do something drastic to be taken seriously.
