I watched some of the Tony performances this year and if you like the new Cat’s that is absolutely fine and I can certainly see why people would like this one more than others. I’m happy that we’re trying new things in regards to non-replica productions. That being said, it just isn’t for me. I personally don’t see the point of seeing cats if they’re not all weird cat people. I like musicals with creatures in them. It just kind of feels lame now.
I can see someone specifically liking this version because it’s less weird, but I don’t want it to be less weird. Much like starlight express I think making it less weird gets rid of like 50% of the enjoyment maybe more. I’m just glad there’s a recording of the one I like. Wish I had caught the circus Cats production. Also, can somebody give a bigger budget to the people who did the cowboy version and tell them to take it on tour? I would be eternally grateful.
