it’s some real rankass messaging that whenever a woman in power talks about taking pride in her job, or the challenges she has faced as a woman to rise to her current professional level, both men and women on the left start lobbing “girlboss” accusations at her. do you understand how demeaning that is??? and do you also understand that young girls can see this messaging, both online and in person, and immediately internalize that aspiring to be powerful in their chosen fields equals bad, cringe, or not progressive in some way?! it’s like your run-of-the-mill misogyny gets completely ignored because the professionally powerful women of the world, or should i say MOMMIES, are always expected to clean up this global mess, completely subvert the status quo, and somehow transform our capitalist society into a more equitable socialist one where i guess the position of leader becomes antiquated??? i swear, as someone very left of center myself, i think there is a not insubstantial number of self-proclaimed “leftists” who have reinvented the madonna-whore dichotomy, where a woman in power is either emma goldman (righteous) or margaret thatcher (evil), and there is no in between. please be so for fucking real right now.
