Short teaser for the upcoming Red Bull Studio Collectives project. Pipe Dreams - A film about the world being created beneath London. Nicely worked collage of animation and video footage combined with experimental sound design. The introduction is particularly strong. “Pipe Dreams is a short film commissioned by the Barbican to mark the passing of Crossrail's Tunnel Boring Machines beneath the Barbican Estate.”
The visuality and expression in the installation has to do with the theme or subject matter of the work. Sometimes I prefer shooting with film, and in some cases, as with the making of part of The Annunciation, we used digital cameras. The installation space is usually painted with color chosen according to the colors and themes in the work. Sometimes, the walls are left plain white as in The Annunciation, where the floor was covered in carpet, Mary blue in color. Ultimately, though, the installation should look simple. - Eija-Liisa Ahtila

Doug Aitken - Altered Earth Performance with Terry Riley 2012 ‘Altered Earth’ explores the ever-evolving geography and ecosystem of the Camargue, a boundless wilderness between the tributaries of the Rhone south of Arles. “This film documents a one-time musical "Happening" staged inside Aitken's Altered Earth installation in collaboration with Terry Riley. Riley's improvisation took place in 4 separate musical parts within the art installation.”

Station To Station - Trailer From 27th June - 26th July a partnership between the Barbican centre and The Vinyl Factory will host the only international stop of Doug Aitken’s Station to Station. The project “draws together an inspiring and diverse fusion of international and UK-based artists from the world of contemporary art, music, dance, graphic design and film, with much of the work created live in the space.”
Carsten Nicolai - unidisplay “The installation unidisplay offers an examination of semiotics and the laws of perception. the work operates with a number of modules of different visual effects that interfere with the viewers' perception, through optical illusion, jitter, flicker, after-image, movement, complementary colour effect, and so on.”
Ryoji Ikeda’s "supersymmetry" will feature at Brewer Street Car Park, London, from 23 April – 31 May (Tues – Sun). The artist combines a signature style of monochrome visual projections with sharp, mechanical sonic features to explore “the intersections between music and visual art through mathematics, quantum mechanics and logic.” http://www.thevinylfactory.com/vinyl-factory-exhibitions/ryoji-ikeda-and-the-vinyl-factory-present-supersymmetry-at-brewer-street-car-park-2/ “supersymmetry is Ikeda’s first large scale solo exhibition in London, and his first project in London since spectra (produced by Artangel) dramatically illuminated the capital’s night sky in August 2014. This new piece is an immersive, disorientating installation of colliding, mutating, sound, text and visual data, utilising forty projectors and computers.”
Carsten Nicolai’s ‘Unicolor’ coming to The Vinyl Factory’s space in Brewer street car park for European debut show. http://www.thevinylfactory.com/vinyl-factory-news/the-vinyl-factory-collaborate-with-carsten-nicolai-for-immersive-installation-exploring-colour-perception/ “Unicolor is a sequel of works displaying a collection of visualizations. already existing ancestors for unicolor are the works univrs/uniscope version (2010) and unidisplay (2012). the installation unidisplay offers an examination of semiotics and the laws of perception. the work unfolds against a long projection wall with two mirror walls on the side thus visually expanding like a universe, operating with a number of modules of different visual effects to interfere with the viewer’s perception.”
The French video artist has taken over the vast Palais de Tokyo in Paris with a heart-stopping immersive show that includes manga characters, Marilyn Monroe and Zinedine Zidane, finds Adrian Searle

Using effects, processors and old buildings as resonance chambers, Emptyset's stripped-down electronic music plays tricks with space and time.

Interesting AV work from Emptyset. Degraded processing of sound and image details.
Emptyset: Fragment Emptyset says: "The video mirrors Recur's production approach, applying greater layers of detail and complexity into a signal chain, and continues from our previous moving image work exploring aspects of analogue video, broadcasting and electromagnetic induction. "Fragment" follows on from this line of research, integrating more physical processes by using reflective surfaces as a means of reshaping the transmitted image."
Expanded Cinema, Tate, 2009. "Coined in the mid-1960s by US filmmaker Stan VanDerBeek, but with its origins in the experiments of early twentieth century avant-garde film and performance art, ‘Expanded Cinema’ refers to film and video works that expand the traditional one-way relationship between audience and screen to incorporate the context they’re being watched in. This film, made in Tate Modern’s oil tanks during the Expanded Cinema event in April 2009, includes works by Steve Farrer, Tamara Krikorian, and Lis Rhodes."
Ron Arad's Curtain Call
"Representing 20 years of collaboration, Lost in the Memory Palace celebrates the unique partnership of two internationally renowned installation and sound artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller. The pair’s interest in producing a compelling environment for interactive experiences has gained them a strong international audience. With five major installations and related works, this exhibition offers a focused theme of "the room" within this comprehensive overview of their collaborative history."
