Chapter three
< Prev prologue Next ->
This was a difficult chapter, actually. I doubted a lot about how to make the time travel logical. There was a version with a portal, and also one with a broken time tape measure (I wanted to go with that option, maybe it would've been more logical, but I still decided to stick with what I originally planned while running a fever (lol)).
This version had potential, but the time police really look stupid here. They only showed up so Ford could steal the time tape from him. Ford could have killed him, but the others from the police wouldn't have let that slide. And there's no way the police would have just shown up and said:
"Good job. I just came to say I could arrest you, but you're already suffering, so it's fine"
If they had shown up, they would have definitely arrested Ford. And then the plot would've been about a fight between the police and Ford, not about searching for Stanley.
"But how would the cop have gotten back?"
I wanted to give him two time tape. One he carries around as a faulty one. And it doesn't move through timelines in one universe - it moves through different universes. That could've given Ford a chance to see even more versions of Stanley's suicides. But I changed my mind.
So I just went to reread Ford's journals. It's that door from Journal 3. I reworked the concept a bit and just... made it sentient. A door that got stuck inside the house and can't get out because of the barrier.
Overall, it's okay. I struggled with it for a long time, and then I thought: "Calm down, Ruru, you're doing this for your own enjoyment, omg, why is your brain overheating and your self-esteem dropping?" So I just left it as is.
I hope you liked this chapter. Thank you for reading <3
