Yall realize that you can critique a religion and their values and then just... not demonize everyone who actively participates in it and then get defensive when some of those some critiques could be said about other religions right
I'm saying this as a former Christian who left the religion for multiple reasons INCLUDING some of the people in it. Yall genuinely get so mad when Muslims or anyone else in general wants more Islam rep in media and come up with various excuses and "critiques" to justify that.
But when that same shit can be applied to another religion, such as Christianity, all of a sudden it doesn't count for whatever odd reason??? It's like yall pick in chose what religions to hate and then leave the ones that are "not as bad" alone...
Oohh man do I have thoughts about this topic! And since I rarely find posts about this, I thought I should add my thoughts to this one
This isn’t technically what OP’s post is talking about, but it’s still on the topic of Islamophobia I promise!!
(Longgg rambling under the cut, very sorry)
Islam, like any other religion, very much has aspects of it that are flawed and it is indeed good to criticize those aspects.
But,
when you start saying stuff such as “Islam is an oppressive religion and it forces its women to obey the men” or “hijabs are inherently misogynistic so feminists shouldn’t support Muslim women wearing them, even if it’s their choice” or “your prophet is a child predator”,
when you start accusing an entire religion with approximately 2 billion people that the beliefs they hold are all homophobic, transphobic, bigoted in other ways, etc,
when you start discriminating against people based on their religion and hiding your bigotry behind the claim of “fairly criticizing a religion”,
you have crossed a line. You are no longer helping anyone or educating or whatever it is you’re trying to do. You are just Islamophobic.
———————————————————————
I was born, raised, and am still currently living in Indonesia—the country with, afaik, the largest amount of Muslims in the entire world with more than 200 million Muslims, I think. 80% of our population are Muslims!
I am currently technically agnostic (with a lot of fear about punishment in the afterlife due to not following my religion), but I live my real, offline life as a Muslim. A bad Muslim who misses prayer times a lot, but still a Muslim in literally the eyes of everyone who knows me.
So, I have, for my entire life, felt firsthand the values of Islam, and it has a very big impact on who I am today. The pleasant, the uncomfortable, the intense beauty, and the terrible ugliness. I have felt almost them all, truly.
I’m not actually educated much on the rules of Islam though. Weird thing where I can’t seem to retain any info I learn from my religion classes. I think it’s because I have too much stress around it so my brain blocks out the topic?
Anyways,
I have felt thoroughly comforted by saying prayers before sleep, and it has at times helped with my sleep when I was at times of my life where I had nightmares every night
I have been forced to practice prayer and take Quran reading lessons even when I try to push back
I have found myself feeling good wearing certain types of hijabs and actually extremely uncomfortable when I have to take it off
I have been horrified by some of the stances my family members and friends and teachers hold, in topics such as LGBTQIA+ and also other stuff.
And some stuff I remember reading in the Quran, I disagree with.
But that does not mean I have the right to hate an entire religion and its followers!
The thing about ancient texts is that most of them each have several different modern interpretations. This, if I understand correctly, is the same with Islam and the Quran.
Most of the Indonesian content creators I’ve seen are proudly Muslim and actually do pray and follow most of the rules of Islam.
And yet, a lot of them hold pro-queer stances.
Perhaps because almost nobody is a perfect Muslim and follow the entire text of the Quran.
But some of them have said that they interpret the parts of the Quran that are seen as being homophobic as something else, something with a whole different message and not at all about homosexuality. And I’m sure their interpretation is just as valid!
———————————————————————
So I guess what I’m saying is... if you hate the actions of some people, then say so. Do not blame it on their faith, and remember that Muslims are not one hivemind!
Currently, I am still forced to be Muslim due to my family. But even when I become an adult and can move out and be free to express my real identity, I will never ever EVER! blame my unpleasant experiences on Islam and Muslims as a whole.
people of colour deserve to be able to enjoy fluff and escapism and transformative media and silly fandom stuff the same way that everyone else is allowed to, i think. there’s a lot of unexamined hostility toward anyone who isn’t white; sometimes it’s subtle, and sometimes it’s not. there needs to be far more love and support for poc, and far less defensiveness and tolerance regarding racism in spaces like these.

when people tag posts "unreality" it's a signal to people who struggle with discerning reality that a (likely scary if believed to be true) post is not real even though it's written as if it was. it's also a filter tag so those people can opt out of seeing posts like that entirely. many people who rely on the unreality tag are psychotic and struggle with paranoia alongside (or because of) the struggles discerning what's real. posts that these people interpret to be real can lead to incredible distress and compulsions.
when someone tags your post "#unreality" and you screenshot the tags and say "what are you talking about? this is real" because you consider the post easy to discern as not real and find this joke funny you're actually just causing paranoia for people who now feel like they can't trust the unreality tag. not everyone has the same reality discernment skills as you. what's "obviously" a fictional story to you may not be obvious to other people.
I don't think most people make this joke maliciously. I think most people making this joke don't even realize why the unreality tag exists. anyways, if you've made this joke or have the urge to make this joke then consider not doing that.

it's incredibly fucked up that there is a group of disabled people (people with psychosis) who cannot even disclose their condition online or to others without a deluge of humourless losers deciding that their first reaction will be to try and trigger that psychosis with shitty "jokes". same category of people who will send flashing gifs as soon as someone says they have photosensitive epilepsy. these cunts would feed someone a known allergen just to be edgy. imagine being such a feckless dog-like bastard that disability is a funny thing to exploit for the sake of being edgy and not an act of incredible violence
Did you hear about the riots in Northern Ireland over getting to getting better laws on immigrants? Apperently an immigrant from Sudan attempted murder so now some absolute psychos are burning down cars and bins and breaking windows in protest of having immigrants in our country. If they think a house holds an immigrant they burn the bins and throw them into houses.
Honestly the lengths people go to. I got sent home early and my eye appointment was cancelled because everyone's so scared of the protesters. They didn't do this when an irishman murdered a pregnant woman but of course when it's a non white person we should shut down the whole country!
My friends and family are terrified (all Irish and white) and locking their doors and hiding because of this. Nobody is safe. My coworkers friends car got its windows shattered last night, she's born and raised Irish. I'm heavily disabled and I don't want to go outside because I'm terrified of what these people are doing because I know I can't fight back.
This happened within the span of two days.
Fuck racists
Riots and collective punishment in response to racial discomfort are a common tactic. Y'all don't be hearing me when I say white supremacy is the same no matter where it is on the planet, and it'll destroy everything in its efforts to get what it wants.

"I love seeing Black children happy. It bothers me so much when people are buzzkills about the joys of children, but it especially pisses me off when people are annoying about the happiness- and loudness- of Black children. It’s already hard as fuck enough out here, it’s not going to get any easier, and now the kids are supposed to be miserable too? Let the kids be happy!
At any point this world might decide that they should be murdered for the audacity to be alive and Black; I want them to cheer and clap and dance and sing and blast music as LOUD as they can because they are here too and they have every right to be! Take YOUR miserable ass on somewhere instead, and consider why happy Black children bother you so much. Maybe consider that YOU might be the threat! You want to fight somebody, pick on somebody your own size!"
A very pertinent quote from my lesson on Black Childhood
