(this got very long I apologize)
I came up with him a few years ago as DND character idea, but with the whole amnesia thing he really worked best as a level 1. So when our DM announced a level 1 campaign I was Ready For It
He's a half elf, sea elf specifically, hence the fins (and gills!). He's ?? years old? He's obviously unsure, but he's giving "poorly aged 30s" but relative for a half elf's life span, if that makes sense.

He has no memories before being overboard in the ocean. He could've been floating out there for days, he's not sure. But a smuggler ship came by and hauled him out (and he like immediately collapsed from exhaustion upon being rescued 🙂↕️)
Lucky for him the ship captain was very accommodating and didn't just drop him at the next port to fend for himself. He let Zee stay and learn how to sail and how to hold a sword, and paid him! Like any other deck hand, for his work. Life went on like that for about a month.
Unfortunately things went sideways one day when the ship got attacked by a ghostly ship AND a sea monster and it sunk. The Adventuring Party then washed ashore on Jurassic Fucking Island... (dinosaurs are scary at level 1.) The Good News, we ended up finding the ship captain just in time to save him from an injury. The Bad News, he died several days later while we were trying to run away from a shadow monster. He was hanging back, making sure everyone got out of the room before him, stalling the monster for us. And then when he went down we were just seconds too late to save him... We had a funeral for him. It was heartbreaking.
Zee's perspective on it is "that man saved my life twice over, and now he's dead. Now I can never repay him. I don't know how to live with that-"
But he did inherit the captains cool hat and pistol :) so now he's just like a real pirate~ lol
And the group did eventually get off of Dino Island and are back on their way, sailing towards the capital city of the empire. Zee is hoping he can find someone there who could help him with his head. However he has a growing anxiety about who he might've been before losing his memories. What if he was a bad person? (He was found in shackles...) What there's something he doesn't want to remember?
Fun facts (that shouldn't spoil much, in case my fellow players are looking)
The gills are functional but he hasn't figured that out yet
He keeps randomly shooting off spells during combat without realizing. Nobody has brought this up lol.
He has this tattooed on the back of his shoulder. He obviously doesn't know where he got it or if it means something
He has a woven bracelet with one smooth stone bead tied to his wrist, he does not know where that came from either
He seems to have a tumultuous relationship with food. He has to make his own food (and he's a terrible cook) or else he can't eat. He can't place what he's afraid of exactly
(he has an actual backstory, a life he forgot, but this post has gotten long enough and it's late. Another time <3)
