How do non transfems benefit from transmisogyny?
It privileges their discursive positions when transfeminized people make competing claims, for example.
First it must be understood that many transfeminized people find themselves in precarity due to the economic discrimination and social isolation they are subject to, which makes them vulnerable to exploitation for straightforward material reasons and severely limits what they can and cannot do.
Then, much like how misogyny makes it very difficult for women (or misogyny affected people) to be taken seriously when engaging with cis men, transmisogyny makes it difficult to be taken seriously when engaging with non-transfeminized people.
Transfeminized people are seen as unserious, untrustworthy, deeply irrational and biased. They're crazy, they're angry, they're throwing tantrums, they're childish, they're selfish and self-centered, they're liars, they're driven by emotions, they're narcissists, they're manipulative, they're inauthentic, they're irresponsible, they're pathetic but threatening, they're lashing out because they've had their overly fragile feelings hurt, they're secretly motivated by perversions and fetishes, and above all they're cringeworthy.
There are a number of transmisogynist myths or images that people can use against transfeminized people (or that transfeminized people can inadvertently fall into in people's perception) that make it easy to dismiss them by attributing unacceptable motivations to them. Regardless of what they say, it's up to others to decide what they really mean, and it's usually not very charitable.
Transfeminized people hate men and people AMAB because they're compensating for having been AMAB, they hate women and people AFAB out of jealousy, The things they do they do for perverse reasons, the things they say have secret perverse meanings, the opinions they hold they hold because they think that these are the kinds of opinions women should hold or because they haven't let go of their male ways of thinking. They are a bundle of contradictions and lies and artifice with no authentic core. Their femaleness or femininity is a ruse that must be compensated for with extra vigilance and suspicion to guard against the evil it's masking.
In feminist and activist spaces they're outsiders, guests that are tolerated, but who should not pretend to speak from lived experience. When their experiences are more similar to those of cis women than the imagination of the listener allows, they are telling lies aimed at validating their gender. When they're argumentative or confident, they're male socialized. They're taking up too much space, they're too loud, they're speaking over those who face real oppression. Their unacknowledged male privilege must be compensated for by prioritizing the standpoints of others. Their claim to being subjects of feminism is a courtesy afforded to them - if they awkwardly treat it as more than a formality they are making light of its real subjects. They are eternally unable to comprehend the positionality of a misogynized subject firsthand, their task is to listen and learn, not participate.
People have no qualms about applying regular misogynistic myths to transfeminized people either. And because transfeminized people are imagined as occupying the social position of cis men, blatant misogyny aimed in their direction barely registers as misogyny.
Transfeminized people are seen as intrinsically sexual, their existence an open invitation for sexual harassment. When they object to it, their objections read as inauthentic, as unjustified malice directed towards the harasser. Transfeminized people are imagined as being incapable of experiencing sexualized harm, their transfeminized nature itself stands in for consent.
People AFAB (as opposed to non-transfeminized people in general) benefit from various bio-essentialist assumptions that compound with transmisogyny in their interactions with transfeminized people. Sexualized violence, for example, being understood as something that people AMAB do for bio-deterministic reasons (as opposed to something that cis men primarily do because patriarchy empowers them to) benefits those who wish to enact sexualized violence upon transfeminized people with impunity. Many do not take seriously the proposition that people AFAB could have the motivation to enact sexualized violence, or they believe that their own past experiences with misogyny and sexualized violence would prevent them from enacting it upon others, regardless of the actual power relations involved (otherwise transfeminized people are imagined as occupying a social position equivalent to that of cis men).
It's easy to convince people to side against transfeminized people because many people find perceiving them viscerally unpleasant. Fiction uses images of transfeminized people to invoke revulsion, transfeminized people do that by existing. It doesn't take much to frame them as a problem in need of a solution.
Conflicts with transfeminized people often practically resolve themselves in the other party's favor. Transfeminized people are easy to root against, they're born to lose. That's something they have to account for when they engage with others and it severely distorts the way they interact with the world.
If you understand how Johnny Depp benefited from misogyny in his trial against Amber Heard because misogynistic biases distorted the public's perception of Amber Heard, you understand how one would be able to benefit from their opponent being viewed in the funhouse mirror of transmisogyny.
