Can’t believe I saw a take about Crysos Heir hating Phainon in the past iterations. Guys, it would have been SOO much easier if they hated him. Like it’s understandable, it would be the most logical emotion for them. Instead, they try to understand him, try to reach out endlessly even knowing they’ll fail. Mydei wishes Phainon eternal victory because he understands Phainon too much and because if their places were switched he would have likely done the same thing. Burned and burned to save people he loved. He relishes their fight and he wishes for Khaslana to succeed
Castorice begs him to die because this way he won’t have to go through more cycles, this way she’ll be able to give Phainon his rest in the sea of flowers. Hyacine looks him in the eyes and she understands and still tries to reach out. Cipher spits acid at him but respects his resolve. Anaxa agrees but still tries to offer another path. It’s what’s heartbreaking about this quest — even not knowing Khaslana personally they still reach out, they still try to understand. It would have been so easy for them to hate him but they don’t
They look him in the eyes and they see his resolve, they look and don’t see a cold blooded murderer, because he isn’t, even after all this time. It’s what makes it worse and it’s what makes this story that much more meaningful.
