52 Weeks of Tarot: Week 8

Continuing with the Aces! Pull out the Ace of Cups for your deck (or decks!) and start riffing on what you see. What images are in the foreground? In the background? What colours do you see? How does it make you feel? What meanings do you already carry for it?

So, last week I received my copy of the Tarot del Fuego by Ricardo Cavolo. As I was looking through all the cards for the first time, I came across this one, and gasped. I knew that when the week came for writing about the Ace of Cups for @deathandtarot‘s #52tarot challenge, it had to be this one. The imagery departs from traditional Waite-Smith symbolism, as do most of the images in this deck, but reading this card is comfortable and intuitive all the same.

Cups are the suit of emotions and relationships. They also represent water, the liquid state among the classical elements. Here, the composition is dominated by a large breast, from which milk, the liquid that sustains life, pours into the Cup. Breast milk is created by the parent’s body to feed an infant, an exchange not just of nourishment but of love between a creator and the created. As this is the Ace of Cups, and therefore of relationships and emotion in their purest form, the milk in this card may be a representation of the emotional nourishment provided by the closest and most important relationships in our lives, the people who are the most constant and reliable in our times of need. In addition, the constellation of stars on the breast reminded me of Ursa minor, which contains the North Star- another symbol of constancy, as unlike the other stars when viewed from Earth, it never appears to move. 

Take heart. Your feelings are valid, and the people who care about you will help you through. Emotions are what sustain us and make us human.

I know and realize and recognize that things are very tough on everyone right now but sometimes posts with a lot of texts people skip over (understandable I have undiagnosed adhd)

I’ve been through quite a lot these last couple of years (a physically emotionally and mentally abusive relationship) two emotionally and mentally abusive friendships by people I have known for years. Racism at my job and in my town and like.......this whole entire country. I’m currently stuck in the good ole Midwest and even though my town counts itself as “liberal” and “progressive” it’s ripe with racism. Not to mention the town I am is full of abusers. (Included the three that I dealt with last year)

I’m trying to move out of my town and finally live life for myself in a new environment where I don’t have to be worried about literally physically bumping into one of my abusers in the supermarket.
