and this is kind of a problem when it comes to having an adult relationship where things AREN'T perfect and are even maybe pretty fucked up. like you just can't fall back on very foggy memories of your dad bringing your mom apology flowers when you are having yet another marital dispute with your brotherfatherhusband about whether or not it's okay for him to put a biometric tracker in your arm to cope with how often he freaks out about you maybe being dead. it just isn't gonna cut it!

but because Bruce is so stubborn and the reason he has never acted on his suicidal desires is because fundamentally he does believe in the last-minute rescue as like a philosophical principle, and it is hard to live your entire life being a deus ex machina for other people without believing that that sort of thing might in fact be true for you or at least your loved one. anyway he has to die first so that if there's any chance of rescue dick will still be around to receive it
