I want only one thing from critical role right now and thatâs a fjord backstory/lore drop. travis please iâm begging. i need to know whats up with the water boy
this paper is slightly too big for my scanner and the file is slightly too big for tumblr so weâre just all around having a hard time translating the traditional to digital. I also stopped doing art for a while because my clinical rotations got pretty intense there for a while but iâve got a real life job now so iâm back baby iâm ready to do all kinds of dumb fan art just you wait
tfw you find out the details of calebâs tragic backstory after having seen hints of it for months and it changes your whole perspective on him:
My favorite part of the new Caleb-Nott dynamic is the fact that now whenever Nott says âIâm always with you, Calebâ itâs in no way a âI blindly follow you because youâre the adult and Iâm a childâ but absolutely a âStop worrying, my dirt-covered son, Iâm not going to abandon you in this grocery storeâ
âYou know, Nott, you count on Caleb to keep you safe, right? To achieve greater things than you by yourself can achieve? Think how many things you could do with all of us by your side.â

Scanlan vs. Nott
Campaign 2 characters as John Mulaney quotes
Yasha: First off, no.
Caleb: You ever have one of those days where youâre just like âthis might as well happen.â
Nott: I have had a long day. I am very small. And I have no money⌠So you can imagine the kind of stress that I am under.
Mollymauk: Eat ass, suck a dick, and sell drugs
Beau: âIâve never climbed a fence that high before!â And then I woke up at home.
Fjord: And I said âno.â You know, like a liar.
Jester: Aah! One feels like a duck splashing about in all this wet! And when one feel like a duck one is happy!

Liam, designing Caleb: I'll make sure to provide the cosplayers with multilayered and easy to understand outfit specifications so that they have good references to go by
Taliesin, designing Mollymauk: Fuck You
passing of the torch
Summary: Caleb meets a stranger who suggests a return to the past, sort of. [Or, how Caleb gets back into magic.] Characters: Caleb Widogast & Vaxâildan Words:Â 1.3K Notes: Donât even ask me how this would work. Inspired by sketchingsparrowâs art and my own predictability.
The mourning bells have been ringing all day, low and constant across the whole of the tiny, crooked, mud-and-rainwater town. It is enough to give any man a headache, and more than enough to drive just about everyone to the tavern to drink it away. Half the region seems to be pressed into the taproom, and it takes an age and a half to buy a drink with his dwindling coin and find a booth at the back of the room, out of the crowd.
He does not notice the man until he very nearly sits on him.
âSorry, friend,â says the voice out of the darkness, and Caleb swears in thick Zenmi. âThis seatâs taken.â
Keep reading
in a future episode
jester, the only healer: [goes unconscious]
rest of the party:
vox machina: take away both of grogâs cool sentient swords because theyâre âevilâ
travis: [binding his sentient weapon to the very core of his new characterâs class] fuck youÂ

Look, I believe in feedback culture and supporting the fan creators I love as much as anyone, but I really get leery of posts that present a hits-to-kudos or hits-to-comments ratio as a reliable indicator of anything, be it reader engagement or the quality of the fic itself.Â
Setting aside the fact that hits-to-kudos will always skew higher for longfic and serially-posted works for what should be obvious reasonsâif weâre serious about more of a return to Donât Like, Donât Read culture (which I certainly do see advocated a lot as an alternative to purity wars and callouts), then youâre going to see some hits with no other feedback. Someone landed on a fic, got as far as the tags or the summary or the authorâs notes or the first chapter, decided it wasnât for them and closed the tab. And thatâs okay. Thatâs what we asked for.
As a person whoâs occasionally written some pretty dark fic myself, thatâs what IÂ ask for. Know your own limits. Know when to close the tab. I will never ask you why you stopped reading or silently judge you for vanishing from the comments.
So I just get real uneasy when I hear âauthors get way more views than comments/kudos and this is a problem we need solve.â Should we be supporting and participating in feedback culture as much as canâyes, absolutely. But if we also want a Donât Like, Donât Read culture, then we have to accept the consequences of that, which is that a certain number of hits will be readers leaving without finishing, or reading without commenting because they felt ambivalent about the fic or uncomfortable with some aspect of it they couldnât overlook, and leaving concrit, even alongside praise, is no longer socially acceptable.
We canât have it both waysâwe canât both ask people to just walk away when they donât like something, and also ask them to comment on every fic they read. Itâs okay to admit that hits-to-kudos/hits-to-comments just isnât a meaningful metric, while still encouraging more feedback for the fanworks we love.
iâve been hearing for months since i came back to fandom about The Plight Of The Fanfic Author, like thereâs some kind of epidemic that must be Cured⢠with regards to audience engagement. the truth is, statistically speaking, authors on ao3 are actually seeing a great deal of success.
companies running advertising campaigns online are generally seeing a 2% click through rate on their ads. thatâs just to get somebody to CLICK something.Â
audience engagement has always been low, but to get 10% of readers taking some sort of action after landing on your work, especially taking into account the bounce rate anne mentioned, IS AWESOME.Â
if you ask me, the dialogue about the level of engagement authors âdeserveâ for their fic is starting to sound awfully transactional: âi put up my fic, and you leave me comments.âÂ
writers have grown resentful because this imagined script isnât being followed.
but thatâs not how it goes. it stops at âi put up my fic.â
ao3 is an archive. itâs a gallery of work. kudos and comments shouldnât be a requisite; we donât need to strategize new ways to pull them out of people. if folks want to read anonymously and then disappear, there shouldnât be a stigma attached to that.Â
longfics stall because writers attach their self-esteem to the level of engagement they receive.Â
but thatâs not what the archive was created for.Â
it was created to display work.Â
you have my permission to read my work and not engage with it afterward. iâm not going to be upset if i donât receive comments. thatâs not what i put it there for.
This is the best thing Iâve ever made, enjoy
