Birthdays always leave me with a weird taste in my mouth.
Every good American southern woman knows that aging is the enemy. But I know that the alternative is just as daunting.
I'm not worried about how I look today though. I always worry about the same things, not being accomplished, not having my life together and not meeting expectations.
I'm the kind of creature who always cries on her birthday. I cry on pretty much every big occasion, to be honest. I hate the lead up to it and I hate the impression that I've missed something special. Days are what you make them and I'm good at making them an occasion to be anxious and miserable.
It's hard to be sensitive about everything while also being very mean to yourself about those feelings. 33 years is a long time to "tamp it down."

I have covid. I always try and be careful and I was about to get my shot, they had just gotten them in locally at the Costco. But I was too late. And now I feel crappy.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention (S05E04)
When my dad was in the last few years of his life and suffering from cancer I cross stiched “I don’t know hoe many years on this I got left. I’m gonna get real weird with it.” and I did a small floral frame stich around it as well before sticking it in a photo frame I picked up in from a dollar section at the store.
When he got it from me I had to explain that it was from a tv show and that it made me think of how he was doing everything he wanted to unapologetic and I loved that. He grinned real big and hugged me then put it on the mantel. Stayed there till he passed.
