Started on pole but beaten into second in the race by Jochen Rindt, by 0.7 seconds.
James Hunt, McLaren M23. Long Beach GP, 1977.
Hunt dropped to 21st after this but still finished 7th... died 18 years ago today, gone but not forgotten.
#5 is Mario Andretti (winner), #7 is John Watson, later disqualified for a push start when his engine stopped. The Elf Tyrrell is Ronnie Peterson.

Carlo Facetti, Brabham BT42. Italian GP, 1974. DNQ by seven tenths.
Tom Pryce, Shadow DN5. Swedish GP, 1975.
John Love, Surtees TS9. South African GP, 1972. Love had a sudden tyre deflation with just two laps to go, and this car was destroyed against the barriers. Love was unhurt.
Mike Beuttler, March 721G. German GP, 1972. One of Mike's best results, 8th.
Arturo Merzario, Ferrari 312B2-72. British GP, 1972. Little Art finished 6th.

Rolf Stommelen, Eifelland-March 721. British GP, 1972. This ridiculous contraption finished 10th, five laps down.
Johnny Servoz-Gavin, Matra MS11. Practice, German GP 1968. Beltoise drove the car in the race.
Ricardo Rosset, Lola T97/30. Australian GP, 1997. Godawful car, but he managed to get it within a couple of tenths of Katayama's Minardi in first practice and thrashed team-mate Vincenzo Sospiri in both free practice sessions. Qualifying saw him come last though, a whopping 12.7 seconds off Villeneuve's pole. The awful Lola never appeared again. Rosset was better than people think.
Pedro Diniz, Arrows A19. Belgian GP, 1998. Pedro finishes 5th after all the accidents.
François Migault, Connew PC1. Austrian GP, 1972 - its one and only F1 race.
Qualified last, but was running 17th when the suspension broke and the rear wheels started to steer... Migault did well to avoid an accident. This car later broke down again at Brands Hatch for David Purley, then became a Formula 5000 car for 1973. Driven by Pierre Soukry for two attempts to race - first a DNS (oil pipe) and second a DNQ. It was then qualified for a race at Brands by Tony Trimmer, but a shock absorber broke off, and the car went into the barriers and that was the end of that. It still exists, in pieces, in Peter Connew's garage.

Chris Amon (#30), Amon AF1. Vittorio Brambilla, March 741. Practice, Monaco GP, 1974.
Amon DNS, Brambilla retired after being caught up in someone else's accident on lap one.
Otto Stuppacher, Tyrrell 007. Canadian GP 1976. Looks pretty, DNQ by eight seconds, 27th of 27. Austria is beautiful.
