[pulls away after a moment, wiping at his eyes] You should … you should go back to the party. People will be looking for you.

Honestly? I don’t really care if they’re looking for me. [moves forward to kiss the other boy deeply]

[buries his face deeper into Edgar’s chest] I love you.

I love you too. [leans down to kiss the top of his head, inhaling sharply, his arms tightening around the other boy]

[grips him tightly, curling his fingers into Edgar’s robes] Don’t die. P-Please … 

I won’t. [rubs circles into his back, speaking softly now] I swear that I won’t. I’ll get you guys out of there and I’ll keep you safe.

Y-You’re good. You’re good.

Look, just... [sighs] Come here. [pulls him into a tight embrace]

[stands there, trembling, as tears fill his eyes] If you die … if-if you die …

And what about if you die? You’re allowed to throw your life away but I’m not allowed to try and save you?

[jerks his hands away, taking a step back] I don’t want you to fight for me! I don’t want you to die for me! I want you to be safe and-and happy and have nothing to do with this fucking war!

Because I can’t be happy without you! Don’t you fucking get that? Can’t you comprehend that? Or is it too ridiculous that someone might be that fucking in love with you?

And what? We live happily ever after? [stands, turning to him angrily, his hands curling into fists at his sides] This isn’t some fairy tale, Edgar. This is war! They’re not going to let you just come in and take me and my family away. They’ll kill you before you even got close!

I’m saying that I’m going to fight for you! [stands as well, stepping forward to grab his hands] I’m saying that if we win this war then they won’t be able to stop me!

[pulls back to look at him] You can’t promise that. You could be dead in a year. We all could be.

Yeah, we could be. But I could also live and I could get you the fuck out of there and I promise that I’m gonna do everything in my power to do that for you.

[hugs him back tightly, mumbling into his chest] I don’t want you to graduate. I don’t want you to leave me.

I know. [quietly] I don’t want to leave you either. But I’m going to get out of here and become an Auror and I’ll get you out of there, yeah? All three of you.

[swallows again, looking away, not wanting to think about it]

[stares at him for a small moment, not sure how to respond, then pulls him into a hug] 

I’m going to let that comment slide because you’re graduating…but I’m so proud of you Egg-head. 

You’re actually being sincere and not breaking my balls for once? I’m shocked, Mels. Absolutely shocked.

My parents want me and Maddie home as soon as possible. I-I … I wanted to see you first.

... This is it, isn’t it?

I can’t believe Eddie is graduating! Run free Eddie! Fly Eddie! Be free for the both of us you majestic eagle! 

As if you had any doubt in me? I’m the smart one, of course I was going to pass.

[swallows hard as he looks back at him] When are you leaving?

Not sure. Whenever Mel wants to leave, I guess. You?

[stiffens for a moment, all too aware of the fact that they are in an open courtyard. But after a moment, he relaxes, realizing that this is probably the last time he’ll ever see Edgar, and so he kisses him back, gripping Edgar’s hand tightly]

[he pulls away after a few more moments, his eyes lingering on Regulus’s eyes, his face still near the other boy’s] I love you. I just... just wanted you to know that.

I don’t feel much like celebrating.

[silently he sits down beside the boy and takes his hand, drawing him closer to kiss him slowly and gently]
