The sun shone only occasionally, bright and warm from behind passing clouds as they drifted far above the quiet harbor.

Denizens of the local city hurried to and fro; dock workers, sailors, merchants, the odd passenger, and likewise other folk dutifully went about their business. Most seemed somewhat subdued, especially the merchants and scant sailors who were met with--if not outright suspicion--a palpable sense of wary concern from anyone who crossed their path. Summoned by one necessity or another, each and every one of those folk who ventured into the streets conducted their day-to-day activities with an air of weary uncertainty.

The ongoing vigilance that had seen them through years of plague had, unfortunately, remained in the absence of the plague's miasma. Judging by the demeanor of cityfolk and country villagers alike, the unspoken yet well-known malaise remained heavy, draped over the whole region like a massive, unyielding burial shroud.

For the better part of a decade, travel had all but ceased and the harbor itself had been chained shut. The coming and going that had once made the port a vibrant hub of commerce had halted in the face of such overwhelming death and suffering. Those frightful days, marked by the incessant ringing of funeral bells at what felt like almost every hour, bore witness to the Lord Mayor's unenviable choice of refusing much-needed supplies brought in via ship. Despite the dire need for additional grains and the like, the Lord Mayor deemed the risk unacceptable in the wake of an already decimated populace.

Six months after the last known cases of plague (and subsequent quarantines), the city thought to open its harbor--its lifeline. Within the year after that, goods, services, and other traffic were already beginning to flow through the city again in earnest.

The flow remained as of yet, only a trickle. But much more would have been excessive anyway, as the living no longer outnumbered the dead. It would have been pointless to waste things that were simply no longer needed.

Ah - Hello!

I'm back!

I uh. I had a major surgery, and have been recovering for a year. As it turns out, I had been carrying around ~15lbs of fibroids and benign tumors for years. Monitoring of my health is ongoing, but it's not cancer*, which is a huge relief.

(*-knock on wood)

I didn't want to talk about how bad it was, but I will say that I had to use a cane to walk around and my hair had turned brittle, was falling out. I can now walk at least a mile a day, and my hair is soft again.

What's more, I've settled into a decent rhythm with work (FINALLY) and even just received a raise! But most importantly, I am happily living with the person with whom I intend to spend the rest of my life, @ageofxail (who I am trying desperately to convince to come back to tumblr rp).

To the point: I've decided to come back with the caveats from older posts that basically outline a major overhaul of my muselist, as well as a paring-down of muse profiles to make reading through them easier.

The following list is subject to change, but the muses that will reside on this blog are: Arthur Kirkland, Jack Kirkland, Jonathan Sims, the Man from the Railroad

The rest will go into retirement.

All that said, should anyone still want to write with me, please don't hesitate to reach out. (And please read my character info sheets. I'm too old and tired to pretend that people asking questions that are already addressed in them isn't off-putting. Asking for clarification is fine, and no you don't need to have an encyclopedic knowledge, but like... try, yanno?)

Second to last: I will NOT be using AI, and if I find out you are using AI, you're getting hard blocked. Kindly fuck off, thank you.

Final note: While I do intend to move to another IM platform as soon as I find a suitable one, I'm still on Discord. Please message me here on Tumblr if you want to exchange info.

Hello, all—

I think it’s time I admit that I may not be coming back, at least for a while.

I really miss rp and writing. The desire is there—it is very much alive and well—but you need more than the desire. You need the energy, the wellspring of creativity and substance, and the time. As my medical conditions worsen, and as I continue to seek stability in obtaining effective treatment, the energy just isn’t there, even if all else remains.

I feel terribly guilty for just consistently going, “I’ll be back!” And then… not. Granted, there are valid reasons, many of which were unforeseen circumstances. Nonetheless, that and how tired I’ve been have kept me away.

There are two solutions here: I scale back considerably with regard to muses, and just set the expectation that I am low activity. Or I just… bite the bullet and close up shop; but I am loathe to abandon something that is both important to me and a collaborative effort.

At the end of the day, I don’t want to keep stringing people along. I also think seeing it as an all-or-nothing thing has been, in part, contributing to my inactivity in the first place.

All that said, I’m open to feedback. Writing is a hobby I don’t want to give up on, but I want to not make attempts that frustrate and alienate my writing partners.

After speaking with some of you, and a lot of thought… I am going to stay. But with that will come some changes.

First: I will be cutting back/retiring some muses. I want to pare things down to Arthur, Goodsir, and the Man from the Railroad. (Jack is a bit of a “package deal” with Arthur in his original universe, but he will be relegated to tertiary muse status/activity with him will be low at best). I still have muse for the others on my muselist, but what I need right now is focus.

Second: Writing will primarily be done on weekends/early in the week.

Third: Not a change, really, but I’m still happy to chat about any/all characters on Discord.

Fourth: Blog nav updates will occur, and I will continue to push my AU list. There’s so much material there, broken down to be simple and easy to access, and it’s all fodder for plotting, tweaking, and inspiration.

What remains the same: My rules, including that this blog is 21+ only, mutuals only, and anon will remain off because people cannot be trusted.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
